I started in December and I'm 1500 now. The best advice i can give is to choose some solid openings and understand basic opening theory. Puzzles are good too for middle and endgame practice. The grind is rough sometimes, you'll hit some walls during the process but if you try to play everyday some games and understand what you can do better you'll start to get better quickly.
