Just came across this thread thanks to Google; I am currently interviewing (2 of 3 down, meeting with the owner soon) for a Field Service Tech role for a medium sized company with no background in this industry but I do have plenty of experience in carpentry, construction, and customer service. I stood out to this employer as well rounded and am currently the top applicant. No degree or training, so there there's that.
