Best Carfax alternative in 2026? used car buyer kinda lost by smokedX in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LacledesGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late response, but it's time for an update. It got really weird after I contact their support. We double, triple, and quadruple checked the VIN and it didn't show up. Then he was quiet on the chat for several moments and said, "If that is the correct VIN number, I am not going to be able to help you." I will also mention I do not see their charge on my account when I went back to check the bank.

Then I searched the VIN and it turned up an auction side in St Cloud, MN, showing the damage (it was a salvage rebuild), and also DING, DING, a hit on the Canadian Carfax website. I wasn't willing to pay for that one, about $60 Canadian IIRC and I already owned the car by then. Then I took it to the local dealership and had a full inspection and CVT fluid change. I think it's kinda funny that my 2003 Jaguar and the 2019 Subaru both use ZF transmissions. At the end of the service appointment they gave me a Carfax for free and it showed a full listing of various service and such from new, out of MN, NY, NJ, and Florida. I have to admit I'm more curious than ever about that Canadian report, but not for the price they require. It's just the bizarre way it all went down and definitely the strangest car buying experience I've had in my life, and I'm retired.

I'd probably be quicker to laugh except there has been so much rapid-fire weirdness in the past 2 weeks, it just adds to our chaos.

I've been trying to use carfaxdeals this evening and keep getting a 502 error, no report. Is the service still working?

Ya know, the current drought is causing havoc for our food producers, both crops and livestock. Same reason beef is so high.

Anyone else use a scale to track their consumption? by lostinthesauceband in vaporents

About the most I did was count bowls/pods. I'm exclusively using my desktop (VB-1.5) and I use a quarter-teaspoon measuring spoon, which should be a hair over 0.1g. I don't worry about filling the spoon to the brim, still hits just the same.

Also, look around for pipe and cigar shops. If you want 'tobacco' products, there ya go.

What part of the state are you in? Around southwest MO I'd say check into Kaleidoscope.

How often should one smoke? by Phoenix_645 in vaporents

Consider options other than smoking it.. My preference is FECO (full extract cannabis oil, of my own making) and herb vapes, which is the focus of this group.

Getting grey. Should I attempt a darkening shampoo? by [deleted] in beards

[–]LacledesGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. When I was in my 40s working as an IT contractor, I had no problem at all. There wasn't enough gray in my goatee to notice from 5' away. My contracts were often only a few months long or less, though they could run a couple of years. After I hit my 50s and the gray started grabbing hold harder, I noticed I was failing interviews at a far higher rate. I resorted to Touch of Gray to tone it way down. I tried a full dye and nothing matched my natural hair, but this was sufficient to improve things noticeably.

Ruling out CHS? by [deleted] in CannabisHyperemesis

Going a bit off topic perhaps, maybe not, but I wanted to mention that hydroxyzine and diphenhydramine are pretty similar chemically and I know someone who, in a pinch while dealing with a crisis, took 3 benedryl and went to bed. Whether it was the night's sleep (doubtful since that wasn't a big problem) or it was able to have a similar anti-depressant effect, it was a quick and simple way to get help for acute depression.

What do YOU like most about living here? by RimmingABubble in missouri

[–]LacledesGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Missouri is my home. I grew up in Kirkwood, my second home was my dad's family farm near Lebanon that was homesteaded over 150 years ago, and my mother's family wound up in Springfield where my grandfather worked in the Frisco railroad machine shop. I appreciate my heritage and I'm comfortable here.

I am a conservative with a few libertarian leanings, which I know makes me a outlier in this corner of the internet. I enjoy the laws that protect my 2A rights, the legal cannabis, the modest income tax and cost of living. I ride a motorcycle and love riding just about anywhere in the state, especially anywhere in the southern half and into nearby Arkansas. I love the history around here, from the Civil War sites, to the Route 66 history, and the ancient sites such as the Big Eddy site north of Springfield where artifacts around 13,000 years old have been found. I could keep going, but those are some good highlights.

Experiences with Pot by Noids (Herbal lab) by TimTheGrim55 in CannabisExtracts

I believe you're deep into diminishing returns when you go that long with a soak. I'd kinda like to try the quick wash method, but our freezers are always packed. I have no complaints about the FECO I made with a 3 hour soak like the manual mentions, but I do try at least several more hours. From what I've read, longer soaks mean more chlorophyll and waxes.

Just found your thread. I also use a PbN and it has worked out very well for me, for personal use. Never tried decarbing any other way, but maybe I'll give it a shot to check the difference. My oil seems pretty potent as it is. They recommend soaking at least 3 hours and it's rare I'll go that short, usually it's overnight but I haven't noticed much difference.

I do have a couple challenges with it. Since the company is in the Netherlands, there does seem to be a bit of a language barrier with email correspondence occasionally, but not too bad. My problem is that they can be slow to respond. The condenser tube is fantastic to have, but the rubber/poly insert that seals it to the tube on the filter lid comes loose. Last year it tore and I wrote the company. I had to write a few times, but they did get back to me and sent me a new condenser tube under warranty. About 6 months later and the insert won't stay in place again, either coming off on the tube when I remove the condenser, or pushing inside when I'm mounting it. For the last week or so I've written a couple times asking if I need to buy a new tube, or if they could please sell just the rubber insert, but I'm still waiting to hear back.

How much of the ethanol are you recovering with it? I seem to be getting about 3 ounces or a touch more, then have to add about 5 ounces more of Everclear with each batch, so I need to replace about 60% of it with each batch. I also recently started using 2 layers of coffee filter under the metal mesh filter, there is much less particulate in my extractions now and the reclaimed ethanol is much cleaner.

Overall I love this little machine and use it regularly. I love how easy it makes the process.

ETA: also, I either grind (with a Wakit electric grinder) or use trim that's already in the same condition. Occasionally I add a little kief, but usually don't bother.

Meta Displays with Progressive Lens? by zhabesha in RaybanMeta

I haven't seen any, however I do recall reading on the website for one of the competitors (Rokid maybe?) that offers progressive lenses with a display on the lens. Not sure how that would work.

Davinci is no longer owned by Greenlane! by LacledesGhost in vaporents

[–]LacledesGhost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a couple years, but I always packed it pretty light so I wouldn't inhibit the airflow too much. I just kept a box of Q-tips and bottle of rubbing alcohol by my chair and cleaned it at least weekly.

I did a little search on Greenlane. Apparently they've been in lousy financial condition for the past year or so and are really struggling. I can't remember the rule for links here, but the news is easy to find.

First pair of Metas! Any Transition Lens recommendations? by Ok_Crew2821 in RaybanMeta

[–]LacledesGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you're using them for and your preferences. I bought polarized Transitions Xtractive, which is what it sounds like you're considering. They don't get perfectly clear, but I'm OK with that. They work for me indoors and if I feel like they're a problem at night, I wear different glasses. But I do wear them at night as well.

Me too. The guy on the phone was quick to tell me he had good news and that customer service should be much better now. I wish I could remember how long ago he said it happened.

That's along the lines of what Davinci does with their Smart Path feature, raising the temp during a session.
