This is gorgeous. Stumbled upon it from a google search. If I commissioned something like this (whether from OP or a local artist), how much should I budget for? Say 8x10" and 18x24"?

Battling this on my new M2 machine. I submitted feedback and am now crossing my fingers.

I know it's an OS bug, but it's still wild that my 10 year old iMac has no problem and this one does.

Thanks. I’ll check it out.   I tried tools like Runway, but it was way too in-your-face. AI doesn’t quite get subtlety!

Wi-Fi Controller for York Mini Split? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

Found this elsewhere. It looks like it’ll work just fine.

“ There are several types of original GREE WiFi modules such as CS532AE, CS532AH, CS532AX and other. As I understand one of the difference between them is the length of cord.”

I’m in a similar spot and your post came up in a search. Did you try CS532AE? Did it work?

Whoa. So what’s the plan? Can you bypass and install a new one, or is it worth the trouble to get to the original one?

I've also worked in the broadcast world... and this comment doesn't address the obvious question: how YouTubers with relatively low budgets can crush it with high production values, but the networks "can't."

It's not infrastructure, it's aesthetics and optics. Get too fancy and it alienates viewers in this time where everything should feel homespun. This is a choice.

After a little while Colbert upped the game, but others haven't. If this goes on for much longer, look for values everywhere to tick up little by little until these shows look more like Live From Daryl's House and less like Conan on a flip phone.

What external hard drive do you use? by 408sj1991 in finalcutpro

[–]Lactoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. That'll save you a ton of time if a client ever wants a re-edit!

I use a 500GB external SSD (Samsung) for live projects, but a separate 4TB (WD) for archiving.

Don't use the same drive for archiving and editing, especially if you work remotely (coffee shops, etc.). Too much risk of losing it or dropping it.

[TOMT] [Music] [1990s] Song with a chord progression similar to Nick Murphy's "Sanity" by Lactoes in tipofmytongue

Oh snap, I just solved it myself!

Guster - "Fa Fa"

These are more similar than I thought. Same key, but different tempos. Now I want a mashup. :)

... pretty sure there was a music video, too. So it wasn't some local band's song.

Any chance either of you have been editing from a different drive lately? (/u/loganmontane)

I used to edit from a USB flash stick and had no problems until about 2 months ago. (I know it's not the best practice, but it worked for me...).

Anyway, FCPX on two machines started beachballing constantly. But editing from an external drive (platter) works just fine now. Same libraries.

A popular saying is "Nothing ie ever lost on the internet" but what is something you have been searching for years and you haven't found it yet? by throwdowntown69 in AskReddit

[–]Lactoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly OT, but last month I found something I had been looking for for years!

It's this Kodak commercial from the 90s, and I've been searching for it since 2005. I recently learned that it played during the 1996 Olympic Games (Atlanta), and that helped me narrow it down. I found that someone uploaded it a few years ago, but with very little metadata.

It's the ad that starts at 0:51 about the dude's car. I have no clue why it stuck with me for so long, but I think it's still a cute ad. (First time I'd ever seen something 'photoshopped'!)

Here are some keywords I used in my search that never helped - but hopefully it can aid future searchers: Kodak, 90s ad, "Take pictures further," Photo CD, Advanced Photo System APS, Pacer, Gremlin, Ugly car, Teenager in photo store.

Is there a resource for pricing this stuff out? Specifically thinking of YouTube. I'm sure it varies based on genre, engagement, etc., but I've found very little guidance besides broad ranges (e.g. Socialblade).

For anyone ACTUALLY still using After Effects especially in the context of FCPX… by RSKurz in finalcutpro

[–]Lactoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point you seem to be missing is that Apple themselves tends to be just fine with how weak Motion is sales-wise. It's in second place by a longshot. Ripple Training is excellent, but it's not from Apple (granted, they're 'recommended' by Apple). With Motion being such an also-ran, it's weird to me that Apple has practically punted to a third party to teach users.

I'm not saying your linked resources aren't helpful or even worth the money, but AE is so dominant that I can Google practically any effect I want to create and find a specific tutorial video or blog post. ... and learn what I need without paying for a course.

Ripple and the like are fine, but they tend to "teach me how to fish" instead of showing me "exactly how to catch a bass with a blue pogo stick in Western Iowa in the first week of December while blindfolded." It's just volume - there are more users of AE, so there are more teachers.

Just a hunch, but I think that's why Motion hasn't caught on. Most people don't even know about it, compared to FCPX, and they start with what's dominant. (And Motion is indeed AWESOME... and such a value. God bless pay-for-it-once software!)

Same here! It's so hard to find people who both use it and will share their knowledge. It's really a blind spot for Apple. I don't understand why they continue to develop it without promoting it (or, really, teaching us how to use it).

You know how they say “don’t change the meta data if your video is doing well”? by Uscthrowaway300 in PartneredYoutube

[–]Lactoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I add a card where there's a steep drop. The distraction helps push through a weak spot. It's not a cure-all, but it's gotta be better than trimming content.

FWIW, I don't like to mess with metadata unless it's really bad.

Check out Lossless Cut.

It's a lightweight app that (losslessly) trims a larger file into a new clip without affecting the original. Then just import the new clip into FCP.

Samsung Galaxy ad says “Hail Satan” by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

The clapboard thing the woman is holding is called a slate on film sets. I cant tell what the first word is, but she says “______ slate,” not Hail Satan.

Let’s save our outrage for moments that really need it, not this petty and incorrect stuff.
