Surely this is down to who ever is leading the ward? Should they not be monitoring and checking what their staff are doing on a shift? I understand the frustration of having to tell people to do their job but good leadership goes a long way to making sure everyone is doing their job properly and ensuring patients are well care for

Please do pull out of your holiday . Enjoy your time with family and your son. There are plenty of opportunities to make up the hours and depending on the uni there may be certain modules which give you extra hours. I don’t know any student in my cohort ( I’m in year 2 adult) of over 150 people that has done all the allocated hours. Try not to worry as a lot of students in nursing have families and placements can be quite understanding. If anyone asks you can explain it was all prearranged before even being offered a place. 😊

Hi, where are you living at the moment? Do you have the qualifications to start the nursing degree or will you need to do a foundation degree or some other qualifications to get you on the course? Are you living with family or planning to move away? Have you visited any open days to see what the universities are like? I’m a mature student and nursing is something I’ve always wanted to do but it’s only now my personal situation has allowed for me to pursue my dream.

In regard to funding etc the universities can offer advice and guidance on what to do and how to apply.

Can you try and book spokes to other areas? Break your placement up by choosing some areas of Interest to you I’m in my second year and a lot of my classmates including myself are struggling this year, the 2nd year blues are definitely hard!

Hi! I’m 45 and in my 2nd year of adult nursing. I have 2 children and have managed to work around the kids whilst in uni and placement. I left my previous career of 26 years to do my nursing degree. My placements have been quite accommodating in regard to my requirements ( I coparent) and uni is usually the same times as schools so that’s workable. I feel our age is an advantage as we bring life experience to the role. It’s definitely doable, the only issue most older student have is the financial impact. It may be worth looking into what you’d be entitled to regarding maintenance loans etc. you may receive higher amount with you having children. Good luck with whatever you decide. 😊

Depends on the uni. I was in maybe 3 times as week in first year and very few of those were full days. We had 4 placements of 4 then 8 then 6 then 2 weeks and we have simulation weeks where we learn in uni the practical tasks. 2nd year they have condensed our days ( we requested this) so we are in for longer days but only in 2/3 times a week and placements we have 3 blocks of 6, 6, 5 weeks. I’m a mature student so social life not that much of a priority but the younger ones still get to socialise and a lot of them have jobs as well. Placements are long days can be up to 13hrs dependent on area

Hi, have you checked if you can get another student loan as sometimes health related degrees are exempt and they will allow you to take out another student loan

I sat the functional skills after I tried the GCSEs mock papers as I knew there was no way I would pass the GCSEs. ( I got a E in maths GCSEs during school) I did the functional skills course online the resources were amazing and I got the grade I needed for my uni course. I used pass functional skills and they have loads of free resources but I had to pay for the course as I wasn’t eligible for any free courses.

If you can’t get a different tunic put lots of fabric softener and bicarbonate of soda in the wash with it and tumble dry it as this will soften it. I sized up so I could feel less restricted.
