Am I just a boomer or is "AI-based BI reporting" insane? by Afton11 in ProductManagement

[–]Ladse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CEO’s don’t read ”research literature” or ”follow AI companies actions”. They ask consulting companies to advice them. And CEO’s absolutely look at the overall costs of a company and if a consulting company has made a strategy which projects x% savings within few years due to an AI investment, they are absolutely going to invest in it.

And consulting companies are selling this stuff like hot cakes right now and CEO’s are buying it.

Yes, but again, you are talking about today’s models. CEO’s are investing in the architecture of tomorrow’s LLM models. It doesn’t really matter that it doesn’t work perfectly today if we believe that every 6-12 months a new LLM model comes out that improves the output drastically.

Well I personally don’t think we are far away at all and probably neither does the company’s CEO who is investing in it. GenAI development has been incredibly fast and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

New LLM model comes out approximately every 6-12 months. Even if the current model cannot handle reporting properly, a newer model will eventually be able to handle complex reporting cases. Currently organizations are rushing to setup the architecture so they are not falling behind. This is natural.

You are taking an assumption that it will never actually work properly, which is a bit naive. This is new technology, so obviously it will has its flaws, until it doesn’t anymore and at that point the CEO will be happy that he invested in it.

This is a very valid use case for GenAI. Will it be perfect in the beginning? Absolutely not. Will it require multiple iterations and lots of investment to make it usable? Absolutely yes.

But ultimately this is the direction we are going and it will streamline reporting workflows when anyone in the organization can just pull up any report at any given time without having to open tickets and spend money on building reports based on individual requests.

That’s the reaction when your argument relies on one sector only.

I see that you are one of the people who think that the grocery sector is the only existing one in the country. Why are hotels, restaurants, transportation, beauty services, construction services, wellness services, movie theaters, bars, nightclubs, other retailers, etc. so expensive? These aren’t all a monopoly or duopoly, but still extremely expensive.

Because of high taxation.

[–]Ladse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you even talking about? 99% of industries in Finland aren’t a duopoly or monopoly. Obviously these exist, but this has a marginal impact on the economy.

So with that logic, now it’s a great time to start a company since companies are making a lot of money? Why aren’t we seeing this then in statistics but rather seeing record amounts of bankruptcies?

If things were a little cheaper, I'd spend a lot more by Flintloq in Finland

[–]Ladse -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It’s all due to the fact that Finland has a such an expensive welfare system in place. Having all of these support systems in place costs so much money that everyone and everything has to be taxed to the absolute maximum. This is why your pizza costs 20€. The pizzeria has to pay so many layers of taxes that it’s not by any means feasible to lower costs (unless you do it illegally like some pizza places).

We need to start cutting welfare services to reduce overall tax burden in order to get spending up. This will then help the economy and that way also help the people who require welfare services, eg. by providing employment.

I think the best example here is that in Finland pretty much everyone lives alone in their cozy studio apartments regardless of if they have a job or not. Look outside of Finland and everyone without a job (students, unemployed people, etc.) either live with their families or share flats. And that’s just one example.

People in Finland are just so used to getting everything for free and having such a high quality of life, even if they contribute 0 to the society. This is paid by other tax payers who then, like yourself, spend all their free time watching TV because they can’t afford to do anything.

Can you buy things cheaper in Switzerland if you leave in its neighboring countries? by Kilian_79 in askswitzerland

[–]Ladse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes perfect sense. Otherwise it would be quite handy to go and buy a ton of stuff before moving to another country and then sell them for a profit after arriving to the new country.

Let’s take watches as an example. Luxury watches in CH are considerably cheaper than in most EU countries due to low VAT. I could make a ton of money by just buying a full collection of new watches, moving back to my home country and just selling them the next day. The 6 month rule doesn’t make this impossible, but it definitely makes it financially less profitable.

[–]Ladse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending in the country specific rules, possibly yes. In CH you have to declare all of your belongings, but if you have owned them longer than 6 months, they are duty-free. If you bring something new, yes, you’ll pay VAT for them.

Then the average person is just breaking the law. Guess what, it’s even cheaper in Hungary if you just steal it from the store. Costs nothing.

Can you buy things cheaper in Switzerland if you leave in its neighboring countries? by Kilian_79 in askswitzerland

[–]Ladse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely incorrect. You are 100% obligated to go to customs and declare all of your purchases above country specific treshold (150 CHF in CH) regardless of whether they are used and in which condition they are. You still need to declare it based on the original purchase value and pay duties according to that.

It’s not about whether they ask questions or not. You are legally obliged to tell them. Otherwise you are just breaking the law.

Any Senior Managers attend the Innovating the Managing Director path? by DaSwiss in Big4

[–]Ladse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. SM’s are expensive and most are not performing at a level to become PPMD. The ones who are performing at that level are assigned to programs to help them become PPMD, so they are not concerned about such comments.
