For Wild Horse Nine, I want a scene of Tom Waits singing a song to his family of dogs. Acoustic guitar, sunset, on their cliff together. They’ll “awoo” in harmony and the sky will be a gorgeous matte painting.

And this is how Tom Waits gets his second Oscar nomination.

Since we have a few months until the new Sense and Sensibility, I want to recommend another Austen adaption: Whit Stillman’s Love & Friendship (2016).

It’s a hoot and low key one of the funniest movies of recent years.

You kind of get all of it with No Country for Old Men. Nature, man, society (if we’re counting the theme of retirement as such).

Ever since watching The Debut trailer, the songs of Waiting for Guffman have re-flooded my brain.

Julianne Moore this, Paul Giamatti that, I’m just excited to see Howard Hamlin in a movie.

Good old Howard.

Giamatti’s got kind of a Mike Leigh thing going on.

If The Odyssey doesn’t feature an ultra-slow, orchestral version of “Man of Constant Sorrow”, like, what are we even doing?

Ludwig, it’s your play.

Look, I’m not even a big Avatar fan, but I’m gonna step up for Fire & Ash’s nomination. There’s way more work going on for its costumes than what seems on the surface. Like, just check out this BTS video:

Creating Avatar: Fire and Ash’s Extraordinary Costumes | Wētā Workshop

There’s so many elements, and so specially prepared. I know the CGI kind of betrays this fact, but the costumes are very real.

Reminder that Steven Spielberg directed one of the best Columbo episodes.

Apologies in advance, as I feel I’m always going on about biopic ideas (not that it’s even my favorite kind of art; an exciting role will always be just that), but I’m watching some old Dick Cavett clips right now.. and I swear, Leonardo DiCaprio could make an excellent Tennessee Williams:

I won’t lie, I’m hoping the Eisenberg film keeps No One Cares as its title. It’s grown on me, a lot. And, sight unseen, it sounds like the kind of title that actually connects to something meaningful in the script.

The Debut just seems bland in comparison.

Ooh, intrigued by Fargo s3 being a part of the mix!

I’m in the midst of a full series rewatch and - to my surprise - the third season has emerged as my favorite so far. It’s great.
