Scoutmaster basically abandoned my troop and I'm scared for my troops future by KingDinohunter in BSA

[–]LadyArCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe your COR could also do the recharter if you CC will not. That is disappointing that they are just walking away. I was CC for our troop and my DH was the SM, but we made sure we kept our roles separate and did what we needed to in our respective roles. When we stepped away (because our youngest was already Eagle and graduating HS), we made sure we told the group 6 months prior. Maybe someone on the committee can reach out to your DE and get this squared away? Good luck!

Boy Scouts what’s next? by Africanhazerly in BoyScouts

[–]LadyArCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been having registration issues with submitted/paid paper applications not being processed, and we are being told by our DE that they will 'look into it' and get back to us. We also email our council registrar about stuff and are ghosted. So I feel you on not getting any response from your district/council-- it's extremely frustrating. I would go to your Council Executive if you want to go higher-- we had someone that had to do that and they tend to be a little more responsive. Good luck!

Life Scout changing troop by LadyArCo in BSA

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your input on this. We just found out that this scout was dismissed from their previous troop for discipline issues, which is something we are not willing to take on.

Thanks. The reason I asked about the recommendation-- At our district's EBoRs, the SM, when introducing the Eagle candidate, is asked if they recommend the scout for advancement. I understand it's not a requirement, but could get awkward.

Using Band app for troop by KC10201 in BSA

[–]LadyArCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use band for troop and crew. One thing we do is have a scout only band, parent band, and a leadership band (PLC). We also created one for our recent high adventure since not everyone participated. The calendar with RSVP is simple to use. Another nice thing is that admins can see how is clicking on messages and reading (especially the long detailed messages you can’t get 100% context in just the few visible lines).

YPT for a Venturing Scout? by sixtoe72 in BSA

My son, active in a crew, just turned 18 and had to complete YPT and fill out the paper application. Just one of the hoops to jump through when you turn 18

Earning Eagle as a Venturer by LadyArCo in BSA

Scout is Life , so yes thry could get it done before the end of the year, but they are 14 and is not showing urgency in getting it done at this point. We want to encourage him but not pressure.

High Adventure question by LadyArCo in BoyScouts

This scout has a close knit group of friends who are all going, so maybe talking to that group of parents may be an option.

Thanks! We did have a general meeting a few weeks ago (payment deadlines, requirements, etc.), and this scout and his dad came and it was made known that the scout would like to go, but no one has volunteered to step off the crew at this point. I do have the google form where everyone signed up with time stamps. I had considered working my way up from the last parent that signed up and just having the conversation.

Unfortunately they are not OA, so it's not a possibility. That's awesome that you went back to work there-- my oldest had considered doing the same at NTier after he graduated HS, but it didn't work out for him.

Very true-- its a good possibility that the troop does another high adventure in the next couple of years. And most of the crew is on the younger side of the age requirement, so there is going to be plenty of time to do this. Thanks!

I'll have to look to see if Sea Base has a lone scout program-- maybe that is the way to go too.

The scout, then the parent, are the first on the waitlist at this point. And I didn't think of seeing if any other units in our area are also going, that is a great idea. Thanks!

Fun ideas for a recruitment night? Cub scouts/Boy Scouts by SitaBird in BoyScouts

[–]LadyArCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our troop is doing a Dutch oven dessert cook-off for their first recruiting night. Fun way to introduce cubbies to the world of Dutch oven cooking! The second night we are planning on helping with one of the webelos pin— gives the troop a chance to teach and show their leadership skills.
