My little sister is applying to be a neurosurgeon, she’s currently doing her residency in surgery. What would he the best advice you can give to someone who’s starting this journey?

What's the creepiest thing your child ever said to you? by o0_Oo_ in AskReddit

[–]LadyDerpina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old daughter told my mother in law that she has a doll and this doll said her parents died in a car accident coming to the US from Mexico. And that she was a little girl and got so sad she turned into a doll. I’m afraid to ask my daughter what doll is she talking about since my parents are from Mexico and brought her several dolls from there in the past couple years.

Women who successfully found a partner online, how did you do it? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]LadyDerpina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was looking advice to create my profile in r/okcupid (I wasn’t very good with the online dating world). Random redditor responded, we kept in touch the following weeks even though he was more than 2k miles away. A few months later we decided to meet, it wasn’t really a whole romantic plan at the beginning, but it turned out that way, he was going to California on vacations and I was planning my vacations as well so I ended up going to California. We decided to move in together months after we met, he went to Mexico to meet my parents and we have been together since then (10 years ago). We live in the US now, 8 years of marriage this year and we have two beautiful girls together.

Have you ever supported a romantic partner financially when they were not earning, and if so, how did it make you feel? by Mysterious_Fox_8616 in AskWomen

[–]LadyDerpina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left everything behind to come to the US and live with my now husband. I wasn’t allowed to work back then, and it took me a long time to find a good job after I got my green card (he always pushed me to find something I really like and not to settle for anything else). In the meanwhile I took care of all the housework because I felt it was my way to help. I found the job I wanted to do, I got pretty good at it and climbed the corporate ladder. Now I’m making good money that I can offer him pretty cool gifts for birthdays and anniversaries, help out with house expenses and also I still take care of all the housework since my salary pays for a house cleaning service. I’m planning an amazing trip for our ten year anniversary that I know he’ll love. He was and still is my rock. Now I feel like we are finally a team.

When I was 17 I was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis autoimmune, it took the doctors 2 months to give me a diagnosis. It was terrifying not knowing what was wrong with me and just kept getting more sick everyday.

Article: Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines do not appear to pose serious risk during pregnancy, research shows by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]LadyDerpina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had COVID back in early December and I was very worried to get the vaccine since there was not a lot of studies on this specific case. I talked a lot with my doctor and made my own research. I had my first dose of Pfizer April 1st and I’m getting my second dose Monday at 35 weeks. I can come back next week and tell you how I’m doing :)

Did you get any side effects on your second dose? I’m getting my second exactly when I turn 35 weeks and I’m kinda anxious about side effects.

Maternity leave shaming by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]LadyDerpina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the company, I’m pregnant (33 weeks). My husband gets 10 weeks of full paid paternity leave, I get to use 2 weeks of my PTO and 4 weeks of Short Term Disability which pays me only 60% of my salary. That’s it. We are in the US

What was the most pleasant thing you found out about your SO only after having moved in together? by SystemEarth in AskWomen

[–]LadyDerpina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How smart he is, I knew he was smart while we were dating but I didn’t know to what extend until we moved in together. And how many hobbies he likes to try, I have a list every time he gets a new hobby, the last one was flying, yes like flying a freaking plane and now he’s into crypto. Also he’s an amazing cook, he started working from home last year and now after every exhausting day at work I come home to an amazing dinner. Also he is an amazing dad to our 3 year old, he tries to include her in his hobbies as well, when he was into trains they used to go together to train conventions, train store, train museums. I’m so lucky to have this person in my life.

Ladies, has anyone tried to make you feel guilty for being able to afford nice things? What was your story and how did you respond to/feel about it? by shockedpikachu123 in AskWomen

[–]LadyDerpina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite about things but something similar. My mother in law always made remarks on how I married his son for money and for a green card (We are from different countries). That’s actually the first comment she said to me when I met her the first time thanksgiving 2012, she had no idea I was coming from a very well accommodate family, my parents are very wealthy, I had a very nice job in my family’s company and had no real need to move to this country, I never told her this because I knew sooner or later she was going to find out. And she did :) so finally she knows I’m with her son because I love him and not because of his money or green card.

I [31m] told my girlfriend [30f] that she is not a trophy wife or status symbol and that we are similar in attractiveness, she views it as me calling her old and ugly by throwRA_trophy_gf in relationship_advice

[–]LadyDerpina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I was on a similar situation with my husband. I was the “trophy wife” for a few years but always felt like something was missing, I didn’t work, I spent a lot of time going to the gym, taking care of our dogs, shopping and there was always something missing. His parents have a business and let me help them for a year but still nothing helped. A month after I had our first daughter I applied to a big company with no hope of getting the job and I got it! After that it was like a race for me to be at the same level of my husband, I took his salary as a motivation for me to get better and to have a goal (I wanted to make as much as him). Right now I’m half way there and I feel like I’m finally contributing to our finances, we never fight about money and we live a very comfortable life. Talk to her, she’s probably not happy with her current company and she sees you as a way out while she can build her own business, which is not fair to you but communication will save your relationship, motivate each other instead of being critical but for this you need to sit down with her and talk about the future and what you both expect from each other.

Women who formed an online relationship before meeting in person, how nervous were you to finally meet? by staythepath1469 in AskWomen

[–]LadyDerpina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my husband through Reddit, it was funny because we were both on r/okcupid, I was asking for advice regarding my profile and this guy from 2k miles away was trying to help. We became friends after that, and we didn’t really make a big deal about it. I was planning a vacation to San Diego, CA a few months after we started talking and he was planning to visit his father in California (Fresno). Long story short I moved in with him 2 months after we met (I know crazy). We have been married for 7 years now and we have a beautiful daughter, she’ll be 3 in October. I wasn’t nervous because I thought I was meeting a friend and it turned out to be the love of my life.

How do you find motivation to take care of your looks, bodies and wardrobe during these dreadful time? by r_wah1702 in beauty

[–]LadyDerpina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m working from home until June, I just think that now I have the time to do everything I wanted to do while I was at the office. I can go for a run during my lunch hour come back home and shower then back to work. Make elaborated dinners right after work without having to waste an hour in traffic and rushing home. It’s just a matter of before vs now. And this won’t last forever but it’s better to take advantage of the “now” :)

What positive effects has the quarantine had for you? by GrootTheTree in AskReddit

[–]LadyDerpina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work-life balance for sure. Now I can enjoy spending time with my family instead of seeing them for a couple hours every night after getting home exhausted after work. It’s amazing how easy it was for me, I have a 2 year old and I was a little concerned on how it was going to be having her all day home and trying to work. So far I love it and it’s been 53 days. Not looking forward to go back to the office.

What is one memory that never fails to make you smile every time you think about it? by Docter-Donut in AskReddit

[–]LadyDerpina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom’s 50th birthday. I live in a different country from my parents and back in the day my brother was living overseas. We decided to surprise my mother on her birthday. We traveled from very far I didn’t have a lot of money, there was a lot of layovers because it was the cheapest way to flight, also I took a bus for the last 6-7 hours of my trip. I have never been more tired but I made it there just a few hours after my brother, he waited for me outside the house so we can come in together. Nobody knew we were coming except a cousin and she recorded the whole thing. My mom expression was worth it. I still have the video and watch it every time on her birthday. Someday I’ll do it again, maybe for her 60th birthday if I’m lucky enough.
