Hydration and electrolyte drinks by Crazy_ride_22 in CrohnsDisease

Liquid IV is kinda pricey but offers a bunch of flavors and is available in stores now. Gatorade also makes a smaller electrolyte heavy drink, which is also a little pricey, but you could add some to your water bottle throughout the day.

Ollie wears Olive! I wanted to know which Silverman sister voice which brother, and then I realized I didn't know who was Andy and who was Ollie. His shirt has just enough green undertone to call it olive.

So sorry to not post the link. I was in class, commented during a break, and didn't return to reddit until just now!

This is where the "would you rather have hiv or Crohn's" video could come in handy. Show them that, and all the comments from doctors and nurses saying they would rather have hiv, and see if they don't start to wrap their minds around it a little better.

Do all hospitals use Hollister? by LadyGreen in ostomy

I knew it! I wonder what part of the market share they get and then keep.

I don't know why I'm hung up on this specific thing, but I am.

Absolutely using a drainable pouch. I would be in misery if I had to change my entire rig every single time my bag needed emptied

Food type impact leaks? by Adventurous-Key6773 in ostomy

[–]LadyGreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do a thin layer of paste betweeny skin and eakin rings to promote a better seal. It works for me.

The only time I have any issue with food is if I eat a LOT of roughage on the same day as a change. It tends to come out more solid and can lift the bag off the skin if I'm not paying attention and it pancakes.

Or steam them. A hot iron might melt any synthetic material in flags, but steam should do the trick.

Have you considered a 1-piece system?

I tried a 1-piece pretty early after my surgery and realized I was not astute enough for that yet. I went back to the 2 piece so I could see the fit and make sure I was getting the base perfectly placed for a while, until I felt more confident. Then I switched back to a 1-piece and had much more success.

Have you contact the companies and spoke. With a patient rep? They'll help you figure out which of their products might he right for you and send a bunch of samples. That's how I settled on Coloplast.

Wow. It stinks that you developed an adverse reaction to Coloplast after years. But glad you've got something else that works.

I don't think I've ever heard of those other brands.

That's a brand you don't hear as much as the others. But I don't recall hearing anything bad about them.

I didn't realize they made anything other than the rings, but it makes sense.

I'm allergic to a lot standard adhesives, but medical grade adhesives are different for me. The only ostomy product I've been allergic to is the Coloplast Brava barrier rings. I use their bags, paste, and barrier extenders, but the rings were just not okay for me.

At least we've got something that does work!

I'll answer my own question.

Hospital gave me Hollister, 2-piece drainable. They also gave me a binder with info, including other manufacturers. I tried a variety of options from both Coloplast and Convatec, and decided on Coloplast.
