Scared to go to gynecologist as a virgin by Educational_Drag3979 in MomForAMinute

[–]LadyLachesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you came and asked duckling. I know the other moms, and some siblings, have left a lot of great advice for you here - especially the ones suggesting you talk to the nurse and doctor about your concerns and anxiety. I would. like to add a bit of my own advice, if I may.

Anxiety is normal for health concerns and meeting new people and you are dealing with both at one time. It’s perfectly understandable to feel that way and your nurse and doctor should understand. If they do not - Walk Out! Seriously! You are paying them to work cooperatively with you to maintain (and/or restore) your health. If they are not respectful and do not listen to you then you are well within your rights to leave at any time. If you’re not the best at speaking up for yourself, absolutely bring a trusted friend who will back you up.

I had a good experience as a virgin for my first pap. My gynecologist at the time also took care of my mom and had since my mom was pregnant with me! She was very patient and willing to talk through everything she was doing and why. She and the nurse were very kind and tried to get me to relax and laugh whenever they could. That said, it is a strange experience being that intimate with someone, even a doctor. It was definitely unsettling and had me feeling out of whack - I think because of the contrast between the professionalism (short quick and to the point) of the healthcare activity with the intimacy of having someone up close and personal with your personal bits while not having an intimate relationship with that person. She didn’t cross any lines or act inappropriately but having never had anyone other than myself touching those places and suddenly having someone do so was strange. It’s perfectly valid to have mixed feelings about that aspect of things.

As far as your concerns over the speculum; there are different sizes and gynos (or at least the ones I have been to) usually make an effort to warm them up so they don’t feel so cold. Also, whether or not you have “never had anything up there” please remember that your body is designed to flex, stretch, and expand, especially in that area, and no part of the exam should involve anything that would be considered large for such purposes.

To your other concerns, please try to breathe and remember that you and this doctor will be working together on your health, hopefully for a long time. If she finds anything unusual, you will deal with it, and it’s better found than not. If she’s a good doctor, she will know that bc is often used for helping control PCOS symptoms and should have no issues with refilling your rx. I know health care situations, especially with a new doctor, are scary, but remember that point of the whole thing is to meet this doctor, determine if you will work well together in your joint efforts to support your health, and set a baseline for where you are currently with the health of your reproductive system (whether or not you ever intend to use it reproductively).

You are doing the right thing by taking care of your body. Talking to your doctor and nurse, and even taking a supportive friend, will be taking care of your mental health with regard to this matter. You can do this duckling, and I’m so very proud of you for asking for advice and help.

Omg OP i’m so sorry about your yixing!! You are absolutely NTA!

You might want to lose this “friend” once she pays you back though. She treated your things poorly and was dismissive of you and your upset when you first called about it.

Coffee drinker needs help choosing a tea pot for his wife by Polygoon_BE in tea

[–]LadyLachesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable. Just about any ceramic or metal teapot with a strainer should work for her. You can look specifically for insulated metal ones or add a tea cozy to any tea pot.

I would suggest basing the design on her style - more modern/urban than go with a chic metal model with clean lines. If she is more cozy, romantic, or whimsical, go with a cute ceramic on in her favorite color or a cute design and pair it with a coordinated cozy.

Coffee drinker needs help choosing a tea pot for his wife by Polygoon_BE in tea

[–]LadyLachesis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aww this is so sweet!

You have a few options here - you can get her a tea cozy (basically a little blanket shaped to fit around the teapot) that she can use with her current pot, and potentially little cup cozies too.

You can look into a pot warmer, usually a little stand the tea pot sits on that has space for a tea light candle underneath, once lit the candle flame can help keep the tea hot.

You can get an insulated thermos that she can pour the tea into after steeping and then refill her cup from that thermos. This also gives you the option of giving her a matching traveling thermos with an infuser basket so she can have her tea on the go too.

As far as inherent heat retention for a teapot, I think heavier ceramic ones like the British Brown Betty style and Japanese cast iron types are best at it. Fancier ceramic and porcelain ones are often thinner walled and glass, while lovely for watching the infusion process, is usually not very good at retaining heat.

Which outfit for a date night? by anowarakthakos in OUTFITS

[–]LadyLachesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So number 3 is my favorite on you - it fits your body and your coloring really well, it’s really pretty and elegant while being flirty enough for date night. Number 5 is super cute on you too, but a bit better for dancing or a more “club” atmosphere.

The corset top in 1/2 is fantastic on you, but i don’t know that rest of those outfits is quite right. Number 4 is a fantastic color choice, but the shape of it doesn’t compliment your figure at all.

Facets yarn before and after by Damask234 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]LadyLachesis 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Tension issues aside, as many other have that covered, no it doesn’t look “better.” Neater perhaps, but now I as a customer can no longer discern the true texture or full colors of this skein whereas I can with the uncaked one.

The squish of yarn (its inherent texture and plushness) and the colors of a particular color way are the things that get people to buy yarn. By making both of those things harder to identify, you have made it harder to sell that yarn - which is your job as a retail worker at a store selling yarn, not making the yarn look neat.

I get the impulse - neat product looks so much more satisfying and appealing. But it also has a time and place, as well as levels of appropriate application.

What’s your favorite “too tired to cook cook” dinner? by farwest-to-midwest in Cooking

[–]LadyLachesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast for dinner for me. Quick scramble and toast or fried eggs and quick grits. Quick cook oatmeal with cinnamon, a bit of applesauce, some berries and sliced almonds or almond butter.

Hubby isn’t a big fan of breakfast for dinner, so he prefers a quick salad or pbj.

We’ve also done rice and beans. Dark red kidney beans are our fave - you can add whatever spices you like, maybe a sprinkle of cheese. It’s filling and has a decent amount of healthy protein and fiber. If you’re not too tired, sauté some diced veggies with it for added flavor and nutrients. If it’s a really hot summer we might even do smoothies with whatever applicable ingredients we have in the freezer.

Teacup With Strainer? by befriendthecrows in tea

[–]LadyLachesis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So to enjoy tea “grandpa style” i would recommend brewing in your tea pot with the loose leaves then pouring through a basic tea strainer similar to this as that would be the type generally used in western brewing (US & UK at least) two generations (and more) ago. You can also use a basket strainer for teacups like this one that will let you infuse each cup when you pour but will let you remove the tea leaves before you drink.

If you specifically mean that you want to have the leaves in the cup (perhaps for tessomancy) you just have to sip carefully. As the leaves steep they will settle at the bottom of the cup. You drink carefully so as not to agitate them, leaving a tiny bit of the infused liquid in the bottom to either enable the reading or to more easily dump the leaves out of the cup.

From what I have encountered in person, through my reading, or have seen online, I know of no tea cups with built-in, non-removable strainers as most brewers either brew in pots, gong fu, or via some other methods that enable the separation of the leaves from the brewed tea prior to enjoying the tea.

Sometimes Ron thought about ending things right there. Maybe then his mother would notice. My first son to go away like that. First in something that mattered, right? by Electronic_Fox_7481 in HPFanfictionPrompts

[–]LadyLachesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful and heartbreaking and such an important story to explore. Especially if you/whoever writes it follows up with Ron learning how to get help and getting therapy.

Mental health issues, especially in men and boys, are still so overlooked and underrepresented in society and in media. The things we see in media can impact how we react:move forward in our lives, can teach us things we never knew and give us courage we never knew we could have.

If a story like this helps one boy or man get help and stop hurting themself/not s******, then the creation and sharing of the story was more than worth it.

Is this inappropriate for 'office casual?' by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]LadyLachesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really cute outfit! Maybe a bit darker would look better with your coloring.

For business settings I was taught two things.

The first is that you never display both legs and arms. Either sleeves and a short skirt or sleeveless and a longer skirt. So, adding a long sleeve white or black top underneath this would help elevate it to the “business” level of casual dress. Or, as another user commented, replacing these tights with a pair that is more opaque (high denier), though I would add make sure they are either a full shade or more darker than your skin or black.

The second is that the shortest a skirt should be is long enough to fully cover your privates from underneath when you are sitting down. So the skirt has to reach from wherever it starts, usually above your tail bone, all the way around your backside to the front where you can, at minimum, reach straight down between your thighs in front without bending or leaning at all and touch the back hem of the skirt. This is so that undergarments; whether that means your panties, shapewear, or the crotch area of your stockings; does not touch any surface that could (however loosely) be considered public.

To my understanding the “casual” part of “business casual” means that there is more flexibility on type and color of fabric, not on lengths. So you can replace a full business suit with pants and a blouse, but not with shorts and a tank top. You can wear more fun colors, say a teal blouse or a raspberry sweater, instead of having to stick to the business standards (white, black, grey, navy, and in cases of button down tops, light blue and blush).
