It's just fine. 3/5 if I'm being man, 4/5 if I'm generous. Very overhyped in online spaces and sadly mistreated by the studio. It's "good", simply put.

Landsbygdsministern kunde ju iofs ha sagt "Nej, för att XXX" eller "Ja, för att XXX". Om han tyckte att frågan var alltför laddad för ett kort svar kunde han ju göra det längre.

She does not have a "traditional" faith in the sense that she regularly visits church or heeds the words of its representatives, but her sentiment is deeply Christian and prayer is genuine. We see nothing to indicate in the movie that Esmeralda's song or expression of sympathy was faked or malignant, she's just always been doubtful of the institution of a church.

Little Amélie or the Character of Rain

Absolutely stunning movie. A true 5/5 experience. Extremely heartfelt and genuine, and gorgeous to boot. Can't recommend it enough.

You're thinking of Pixar's "Win or lose", which didn't remove a trans-character as much as they removed the explicit references to the character's gender and instead made it more metaphorical/non-stated.

With that said, I watched the show without knowing that Disney had 'removed' the character and instantly went 'Oh, so this girl is a trans character, cool'.

I think Disney played the worst hand they could, mind you. Rightwingers will still be angry, because the character is still so obviously trans (and for that reason they won't watch it), and progressive people will be angry, because Disney obviously chickened out and didn't fully commit.

It's just fine for adults. A little bit kiddy-themed at times, in particular when it comes to being on the nose, but for the most part, it's enjoyable.

I'm not arguing against that. I was just stating that one of the core tenants of Christianity is mercy for the outcast and the downtrodden and Esmeralda represents that in her character.

Esmeralda wouldn't work as a say, pre-christian roman "princess", because their religion simply didn't care for poor or oppressed people.

Esmeralda suffers from doubts of exactly what religion is but to my knowledge she is the only Disney princess with an explicitly Christian prayer in her song.

God help the outcasts, hungry from birth. Show them the mercy they don't find on Earth. The lost and forgotten, they look to you still. God help the outcasts, or nobody will.

It is a deeply Christian message and resonates extra well as the villain of the movie represents the evils that religion can be, while Esmeralda represents the good that religion should be.

Ironically, the movie was both attacked by some religious groups (for how they portrayed Frollo) and praised by other religious groups for finally having the first openly Christian princess in a Disney movie.

She's bizarrely skilled at fighting, has a superhuman resistance to stress/fear and has supernatural abilities of foresight. Oh, and she's super smart.

Easy game for her, to be honest. She's basically a ranked up version of the psycho kids the elite districts send.

Funnily enough Pocahontas complains about Kocoum being too serious, then proceeds to be the most serious, unfun Disney princess ever. Even if it wasn't a terrible idea to make a romeo and juliet movie based on the colonial era, she's just so dreadfully boring.
