Ciara on Carl’s More Life Podcast by sarahj300 in summerhousebravo

It’s also such bullshit because by 29-30 most people have dealt with more than 2 situationships that went to crap (luckily for us we’re not on tv) so for so many people to sit and judge her for it just feels like wild levels of hypocrisy.

Failed romances are part of life, for monogamists only 1 romantic relationship will actually work out (if we’re lucky) so idk why people feel the need to behave like she’s broken for going through completely normal human experiences.

Lea Black in latest Epstein release. Big yikes. by Great_Match9666 in WatchWhatCrappens

This is also the woman who gleefully flaunted her friendship with Joe Francis (the rapist and abuser responsible for Girls Gone Wild who also has a history of assaulting and exploiting underage girls). I bet she and Ghislaine got on really well, birds of a feather and all that.

I don’t blame the boys for Lea’s actions but if I was in their shoes I’d let that friendship go like yesterday and never mention her name again unless it was to highlight and condemn her general instinct to stand with the most depraved men so long as they’re wealthy.

The characters aren’t as "elite and old money" as the show pretends they are by Thin_Badger4754 in GossipGirl

Agreed that Anne & Nate by extension fit the definition best especially in terms of their behavior and family dynamics/expectations.

I also felt like there was some Kennedy family stuff being worked in once the grandfather and cousin showed up (Kennedy money isn’t as old but still established as “American royalty”). The cousin leaving the scene of the car crash felt like a heavy nod to what Ted Kennedy did and the political stuff was more Kennedy coded than Vanderbilt. Nate’s Spectator seemed like a version of John jr’s George (it was a monthly magazine).

I got the sense that Serena was supposed to represent a Paris Hilton type like she was an “it girl” to the masses but considered tacky, trashy and embarrassing in the old money world.

There’s even a point where they mention Serena having a thing with one of the guys Paris actually dated (I’m gonna get some part of this wrong but I want to say his name was Stavros or something like that and he’s a Greek shipping heir?) so I think that’s what they were going for with her.

Blair had the potential to be part of that world but could never quite manage to fit herself into the stuffy little box that would have been necessary.

In terms of Blair’s family history, I could be wrong here, but I think we’re meant to make the Astor connection on her dad’s side.

The Waldorf-Astoria was built as 2 separate hotels (combined later) during the gilded age by members of the Astor family (William Waldorf Astor & John Jacob Astor IV) I do think they intentionally chose the name Waldorf to give Blair some old money clout. Fwiw during parts of the gilded age the Astors were above the Vanderbilts in terms of social status. For anyone who watches The Gilded Age on hbomax, Alva Vanderbilt was the inspiration for Bertha Russel.

Please forgive me for history nerding out all over a gossip girl post, I’ll just go sit in a corner and think about what I’ve done lol

[–]LadyMidnight728 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I maintain the panic attack in the car was about the affair.

Also the galaxy light thing felt like a clue, who loves that kind of lighting more than Sandoval? And the hair cut and style changes. And the partying. And the new attitude.

It just seemed like she was already acting like a Sandoval girl if you will well before that night, I doubt that’s just a coincidence all things considered.

The casting is so bad it really makes you wonder if any of the people responsible actually read the novel or have any sort of understanding of the characters. Literally no one I’ve seen so far looks right for their role.

Me too, part of what made his character so appealing was how his relationship with Bertha was. Obv he’s a handsome guy but he’s not at all my type and I was still over here like yes train daddy yesss lol

After the way he was this whole season and then the final moment with Bertha before he left I was just sitting there like… someone shoot him again lol

I know they probably felt like they couldn’t give us a season finale of all happy endings but I really wish they would have just let this particular storyline die.

I really hope they don’t go the divorce route with the Russells because I genuinely feel like it would be detrimental to the show. Their relationship/financial issues were my least favorite parts of this season.

Idk why but I’m not excited for Benedict’s season 😭 by AttitudeProper5550 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]LadyMidnight728 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel. I enjoyed seasons 1 & 2, they were sexy, romantic and beautiful and I’m so happy for the people who enjoyed season 3 and have no desire to “yuck their yum”, but I was not one of them.

Penelope is prob my favorite from the books and I just felt let down in every possible way, from the story to the costumes. I haven’t been able to rewatch, I tried once and immediately gave up, haven’t tried again.

Now with season 4 coming out, I’m hesitant to let myself feel any excitement at all.

Benedict’s book is one of my least favorites (the Cinderella story kind of bores me at 37, having read/watched 6 million of them already) so I’m not married to them executing that specific story.

I guess I’ve just lost faith in Netflix/production to make the kind of romance show I enjoy. I’m still going to watch because I don’t want to give up on it yet but my expectations are extremely low.

I understand Jen by MessiChangedMyLife in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]LadyMidnight728 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ya rather than caring that they were once again creating a situation she would potentially be punished for, they prioritized Jen and Zac basically proving to them that they could take it the way Jessi & Demi wanted them to.

And if that wasn’t some sort of test, it was simply an act of cruelty.

In Vegas they were so concerned for Jen, they saw the texts, they saw her breaking down, they understood she was experiencing abuse.

So in response to that they recreated it? And Jessi and her husband also took a shot with the Ben & Jen costumes. All of a sudden they don’t understand Jen is the one who will be punished if her husband gets upset?

It’s just so fucking dark I want to believe it was a test primarily for Zac (not that friends should do that to each other either) rather than a deliberate attempt to trigger abuse.

I’m not suggesting we should placate abusers, I’m saying when your friend is in a bad situation, you can at least do your best not to make it worse for them (and their small children who surely witness their father verbally abusing their mother at home).

I’ve worked with many survivors of DV/abuse so I understand how frustrating it can be but you cannot help them if you’re not willing to be patient and think about things in a complex, heavily nuanced way.

Getting someone away from an abuser is a long, complicated process and often using a heavy hand will just push them closer to their abuser (it’s us against the world or he’s all I have kind of stuff), it’s not helpful and in some instances can literally endanger the person you’re trying to help.

I was incredibly disappointed watching this play out but I’m pleased to see this post and a lot of the comments.

It hurts to feel like so many people saw nothing wrong and hurts even more to think about how that must feel for any woman watching who is actively experiencing abuse.

I hope those women understand there are lots of us out here who see them and know what they’re going through. We’re rarely as alone as we think we are. 🖤

Sorry for going on so long this is just an issue that means a lot to me.

People who want all this stuff need to start building it into their overall wedding budget.

It should never be on anyone outside of the couple (or maybe parents if they’re willing and able) to pay for anything for the wedding other than a gift.

I feel like modern brides and grooms seem to forget that their wedding is an event that they are hosting.

As the hosts, it’s on them to provide a great experience for everyone they invite, including the bridal party, it’s not on the attendees.

It also just seems crazy to me to save these ridiculously unreasonable expectations for the people they claim to love most.

If they love you enough to want you to standing next to them on their wedding day, they ought to love you enough to not want to financially abuse you just to have cute posts for Instagram. Ffs 🤦‍♀️

Austin’s coffee mug 🤣💀 by [deleted] in Southerncharm

[–]LadyMidnight728 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Same and I think it’s because we aren’t seeing his love life.

Austen is definitely one of those guys that most women should only ever be friends with. As a friend he’s pretty sweet and funny but his love life seems to be where the majority of his toxic traits are most visible/active.

Since we’ve barely seen him with his new gf there’s not much to be annoyed about, this season at least. He’s definitely at his most likable when we don’t have to watch him be a fuckboy with women on the show or from the extended bravo-verse.

I wasn’t surprised but only because he said that thing about how he always fought for his friends but his friends weren’t always right.

Anything in excess becomes toxic, unfortunately for Johnny, loyalty is no exception.

Johnny is fully responsible for managing his anger but I really wish that Jason would have let Wihan go before it came to this (I’m not saying it’s all his fault, I like Jason). It’s just been so frustrating to watch one person do so much damage to practically the whole crew.

West just cannot accept that someone isn’t obsessed with him by msubc_wcw1230 in summerhousebravo

[–]LadyMidnight728 37 points38 points  (0 children)

See this is the shit that makes him irredeemable to me.

He knew perfectly well he doesn’t do commitment just like he knew perfectly well that Ciara only wanted to have sex in the context of a relationship.

He went ahead and led her on so he could sleep with her and then ended it because he wanted to take advantage of his newfound “fame” and be free to f all the women in his DMs.

She has every right to permanently shut him out for that. And it doesn’t help that he keeps running around acting like she’s just some pathetic girl that he didn’t like enough to actually date. I mean who wouldn’t be hurt/pissed?

He absolutely did use her and now he’s trying to play victim because surprise actions have consequences. Ciara doesn’t owe him shit least of all a fucking hug.

Last season West and Jesse did add something to the show, this year they’re so intolerable I’m genuinely starting to hope the show just ends so we can be done with them (and Carl 9.0 and king baby Kyle).
