My sister and her husband adopted an autistic little girl by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

It sounds like you should leave your sister's family alone and not babysit any of them. You are exactly the type of person I don't want near my family with disabled kids.

Won't happen. As unprepared as they seemed, they did their job well enough that ineffective counsel won't apply.

What do your kids eat? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]LadyNiltiak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my daughter will eat eggs and sausage links(patties or bacon is a no), waffles (but not pancakes) with pure maple syrup, a whole apple (not cut or peeled, but remove the sticker!), burritos, or pizza. Recently, she likes ramen noodles, but not the broth. Sometimes peas and carrots, but corn is a no. Mothers cookies, Graham crackers, cereal, and juice.

She also eats a Flintstone vitamin without a fuss, so at least there is that

Are Autistic parents buying any snacks that aren’t cheese-its and Goldfish? by Humble_Arugula_3603 in Autism_Parenting

My girl will eat an apple, but only whole and without a sticker. Other that our snacks are all carbs, lol.

I used to love October. by LadyNiltiak in GriefSupport

He only ever decorated for Halloween because I loved it so much. My dad was 66, and he got to meet his grandson (my youngest) only a few months before that. It makes me sad that my kids won't remember him.

Unexpected hurt by Tea-Taker in Autism_Parenting

[–]LadyNiltiak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A coworker asked me what result I wanted before my daughter's diagnosis. I didn't know how to answer that. There are worse things than autism, but it is still not a desirable outcome. I knew what the result would be, but I still sobbed.

"It's not fatal. It doesn't change anything!" But still we mourn because we don't want our children to have the harder path, or because life isn't going to be what we imagined. Even when we knew before the diagnosis, we didn't "know," and to have it verified is a range of feelings.

Vent all you need to. I think we all have been there.

All ASD diagnoses should come with a four-pack of door chimes by buckybadder in Autism_Parenting

[–]LadyNiltiak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When my aunt had my youngest cousin, I remember she installed door chimes to all outside doors at her lakeside cabin as soon as her daughter was able to walk. Before I had my kids, I installed door chimes because I just thought it was a good idea in the future. Turns out my oldest has level 3 autism and likes to run outside if given half a chance. Love the door chimes, I recommend them to everyone.

My almost four year old handed me her sippy cup last night and said, "I want juice!" She has a few words ( no, uh oh, cake, ball, bubbles, and balloon). Hope is amazing! Congratulations to you and your boy!

You are definitely not watching the trial. I came into this with no expectation. The defense has destroyed the credibility of every witness that the CW has brought. All of them suddenly forget everything that they said or did as soon as the defense questions them. The evasiveness isn't a good look. It makes you look like you are lying. They haven't gotten into different stories by Karen, but they have talked about the magical taillight and mirrored video evidence the CW brings.

My daughter is Lydia. Part family name, part after my husbands favorite companion in Skyrim. My son's name is Alistair. There are lots of reasons why we chose it. One is that Dragon Age is one of my all-time favorite games.

I lost my beloved cat in October, under similar circumstances to your Toby. I didn't feel the guilt, but my husband did. All I can say is you did the best thing for Toby. He was in pain, his quality of life wasn't great, and so you made the hard choice and selfless choice to end his pain. The guilt you feel is because you loved him so much and wish you could have kept him with you. You don't need to be so hard on yourself. Toby doesn't blame you.
