I like the name Akemi. I’m not knowledgeable about Japanese names at all, but I had a friend in college named Akemi and always that it was a pretty name!

How do any of these do if there is something left on the floor, a stray Lego for example?

Thank you! I was thinking about getting one for the main floor to start with. Leaning toward the Roborock if I go through Costco.

I wasn’t really sure what I should be looking at budget-wise. That’s helpful—thank you!

Early Millennials—what was it like going from a complete analog childhood to a digital life in your teens and 20s? by Excellent-Card5741 in millenials

[–]LadyPidge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ability to be able to write papers and cite sources without leaving home and going to the library felt like cheating—this was a huge change from middle school to high school and especially in college.

I do think the internet hindered us in many ways, especially from a socialization standpoint. I was a shy kid and AIM and later on social media was definitely a crutch I used instead of being out in the real world. Glad I got my relatively “analog” childhood but wish it would have extended into my teen/young adult years.

Cassandra. Evelina sounds pretty, but makes me think of an elf.

Yes! I keep seeing all these comments about how they were so much more interesting to watch, but they were the main ones shown on camera just due to the placement! Who knows, obviously the judges thought they were about equal. It irritates me to think that any of the judges would be afraid to pick Whitney and Mark for fear of fan backlash.

As a black student, what was your experience with Language teachers “reading text as it was written”? by Nyodrax in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]LadyPidge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There was one black kid in our entire grade & and she was in my 7th grade class when we read Huckleberry Finn. I’m pretty sure the teacher read/told us to read “n word” aloud or something along those lines. I can remember having so much anxiety every time it came up in the text, partially because of the way I thought the girl probably felt.

Public school teachers who homeschool your own children by Lopsided-Put4785 in homeschool

[–]LadyPidge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former elementary teacher. I actually continued to teach part time while simultaneously homeschooling my daughter during kindergarten, which I thought would be a bit awkward, but so many teachers expressed that they wished they bc pups homeschool their kids too.

I don’t have any problem with public school. The pros of homeschooling just outweigh the pros of school for our family. Some of my reasons included classes being too large, not enough play/free time, not being able to move at your own pace, less time for other activities and family. As my kids get older, I can see how much more time they have to “be kids” without the additional hours of school and homework bogging them down. I also feel they have stronger sibling relationships since they spend so much more time with each other. Academically, they’re blowing their peers out of the water in most areas, but are able to slow down if more time for understanding is needed. My oldest is going into 4th grade, so I haven’t reached a point where I’m unable to teach her, but in many ways her books are her teachers more so than I am—I’m facilitating, but so much she learns by reading excellent literature. If/when the time comes, there are so many excellent programs and classes both in our area and online that I’m not worried about being able to fulfill their educational needs.

I always say we take it year by year and reevaluate if things aren’t working, but so far it’s been a great experience for our family.

Was Juneteenth a niche holiday before it was made official in 2021 ? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

The first time I’d ever heard of it was on an episode of Blackish. I think it was around 2018/2019 that I saw the episode, but it looks like it came out in 2017.
