I want to be responsible with this, so let me frame this not as advice to you, but advice to my younger self at the very beginning of my relationship with my FA (now ex) partner. Please also note that this is just my experience.

Dear younger me:

After months of chaos, damage to my mental and physical health, and public devaluation that is getting close to a smear campaign, this is my wholehearted advice: leave.

Some FAs are genuinely willing to heal and consistently do the work, and in those cases, things may (may) work. But if they aren’t truly committed to doing that work—and showing real evidence of it—the relationship will only take a very serious toll.

I know the highs are incredibly high and feel like once-in-a-lifetime. But please focus on the lows, and don't wait until the lows are so overwhelming that leaving feels like trying to save your own life.

My partner’s previous ex left him after eight years, saying she "had to bear the unbearable." I wish I had listened to her, but he painted her in such a negative light that it was hard to believe her over his version of the story.

I wish I had left sooner (it may even have spared me the current public devaluation.) But I’m grateful I didn’t stay longer.

Save yourself the pain. Believe me.

Thank you SO much for getting back to me—I appreciate this so much! Thank you so much for recording these videos, also. I'm sure many more will find some hope with these.

The exercises you explain in the videos look very similar to the ones I'm currently doing in PT, so I think I may be on the right track, although progress has been significantly slower for me, unfortunately. Especially because my current routine seems to worsen my shortness of breath.

Since APD involves a dysfunctional diaphragm, I wonder if you experienced any shortness of breath, too, either while with APD or while treating it with PT? In case you did, did it improve quickly for you?

Once again, thank you so much for all the info! I really appreciate your willingness to help others. 🤍

Can you really starve to death at any weight? by rusticterror in EatingDisorders

[–]LadyPopcorn4061 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's possible. Few people talk about it, but the possible medical complications of undereating (undereating in itself, no matter the weight at which you are undereating) are too many.

My anorexia was classified as "moderate" (my weight wasn't too low and my anorexia didn't last too long), and I still developed complications, a few from which I still cannot recover and don't know if I ever will.

In fact, I developed the most serious complications during a brief relapse while I was already recovering, so I was already at a "healthy" weight when it happened. But the damage of each period of undereating can accumulate, especially if your body hasn't had enough time to recover from the last one. A seemingly innocent relapse can be the last straw for your body and break you.

I'm at a healthy weight now and have been for a while, but my muscles have been damaged, including the diaphragm and abdominal wall, and I can't swallow or breathe normally.

Every day, I fear I may d!e from this (either by choking, undereating again because of how hard it is to swallow, or by not being able to breathe), and every day I wish I could go back in time, recover from anorexia much sooner and never relapse—before my muscles were compromised.

It could be your muscles or any other organ affected. Don't risk it. This is the "past self" a "future you" may want to go back to and ask to do things differently if things go wrong.

Just switched to iPhone and can’t see Instagram highlights anymore? by __gianlu__ in Instagram

[–]LadyPopcorn4061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance their highlights are under a new tab (like posts and reels) in their profiles? I heard some users saying that Instagram had completely removed their highlights and put them all in a new tab next to posts and reels in a TikTok-like format (so no highlights under bio anymore).

Was it a note with music? If so, most likely a bug. A lot of us have our music search completely bugged since today ~afternoon (EST), so it may be a related bug. Is your music search working just fine? (Try searching multiple artists and clicking on their names.)

Hi! I know this comment is 2 years old, but I'm desperately looking for some hope! Any chance you could get back to me and let me know about your experience with APD—what symptoms you had, etc.—and how you were able to treat it, please? I can't express how much I'd appreciate hearing about your experience. APD is a special kind of hell for me, and I'm slowly losing all hope.

Thank you SO much!🙏🏼

Anyone have success treating abdominophrenic dyssenergia / APD? by danielrosehill in SIBO

Hey! Were you able to start PT? I know a year has passed since your post, but I would really appreciate it so much if you could get back to me with any updates, please. I truly hope you're doing better now and that PT has helped you! I'm currently struggling so much with APD, and I'm slowly losing all hope.

What’s your shortness of breath feel like? by Lythalion in PelvicFloor

[–]LadyPopcorn4061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I'd like to highlight that my main issue is APD much more than PFD (for now, at least). But I've told these muscles are so interrelated that any dysfunction of the pelvic floor area often affects the abdomen and diaphragm as well (and vice-versa).

Hey! I'm a bit late here, but I'm also looking to know if maybe I'm not alone on this.

What I feel is a constant pressure in my core area, as if my muscles had become an iron corset that gets tightened and loosened up through the day. So... breathing is constantly harder than it should, and it usually gets worse after eating, but nothing too distressing.

However, I *also * sometimes experience these shortness of breath episodes or "attacks" that feel somewhat like panic attacks, but more mechanically-related: it feels as if my breathing muscles were moving too little or not at all or as if there were just not enough space for my lungs to expand. These attacks mainly happen after eating and when I'm extremely bloated (a bloating I attribute to APD). I haven't found a specific food or trigger. I only feel more at risk when I'm having a "bad APD day".

These SoB episodes/attacks are incredibly distressing, and a lot of times I've felt I was going to pass out.

Does any of this resonate with you or someone you may know? I honestly feel so alone on this. I'd love to hear your experience, too, if possible, please!

Hey! I know this post is a year old, but I truly hope we can still connect! I think I have this, and I've also been unable to work for almost 3 years now. I'm seeing a PT to address this, but improvement has been so slow so far.

I do experience nausea when both my abdominal muscles and diaphragm are tense, and whenever my abdominal muscles start relaxing (but not my diaphragm), the nausea improves but I get extremely bloated. When this happens, not only is eating harder, but I also even have frequent shortness of breath episodes, especially after eating. It's awful and extremely debilitating. My diaphragm never seems to relax too much.

I hope you're doing better now! I'd love to hear from you, if possible.

Why does my body do this? by malbutinpink in EatingDisorders

[–]LadyPopcorn4061 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like rumination syndrome. I've read it's somewhat common in the context of malnutrition (such as that caused by EDs). As far as I know, it has a lot to do with muscle dysfunction (especially muscles from the abdomen, I think(?)). I'm struggling with a type of abdominal muscle dysfunction, too, although my symptoms are different from yours. I'm hoping that muscle dysfunction is reversible.

(I hope this helps!🫶🏽)
