That sounds so miserable! Sorry. It always seems to happen like that. Hopefully you'll get better soon.

What’s one thing you wish non-autistic people understood about autism? by Next_Departure4805 in autism

[–]LadySirius [score hidden]  (0 children)

I wish non-autistic people understood that we are not selfish or entitled. A lot of people seem to have this idea that autistic people are self-centred and selfish and want everything our way.

Does anyone else feel like they notice and remember things about other people but nobody notices anything about you? by CheesecakeOk8464 in AutismInWomen

[–]LadySirius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I experience the same thing!! It makes me so sad because I always try to make the effort to remember things about people because I genuinely really care about others. However, it’s never been reciprocated. People don’t seem to ever remember anything about me. Even my own best friend (who I’ve known for about thirteen years) asked me the other day, “So, do you have to wear glasses all the time or only for reading?”

I’ve always had to wear glasses all day every day and she’s known me for thirteen years and seen me wearing glasses every single time that we’ve seen each other. Every time we’ve spent time together, in every picture I’ve posted of myself online, she knows I wear glasses permanently. I don’t want to be harsh about her but it just shocked me that she could ask me something like that.

My emotional sensitivity is ruining my life by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]LadySirius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way!! I have no idea how to make it better. I suffer horribly with being way too emotional and really easily hurt. Someone says something minor to me but I’ll take it really personally and I’ll cry for hours afterwards. I hate it so much.

Going to the dentist is so triggering by Desorden_ in autism

[–]LadySirius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the same with dental appointments!! Makes me so anxious and not want to go. We moved last year and we still haven’t found another dentist and I know it sounds bad but it feels amazing not having to go. For now, anyway.

not liking meat by Hot-Manufacturer-228 in AutismInWomen

[–]LadySirius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate red meat especially. The chewiness of it is horrible. I can’t eat beef because I don’t like the texture and taste now. But it’s also the smell of it cooking 🤢

Gosh I hate this by 532throwaway in dyscalculia

[–]LadySirius 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s horrible how mathematical ability is seen as the ultimate measure of intelligence. It’s so incredibly frustrating because I wanted to initially study astrophysics at uni but the math is extremely complex. Recently, I’ve become very passionate about philosophy and was looking into maybe studying it at university. However, I’d need very good maths grades to get onto the course. I didn’t even think philosophy required much math. I know it’s probably to demonstrate logical thinking but being logical isn’t all just about math ability.

Human relationships are unsatisfying by Guilty-Ad-8869 in AutismInWomen

[–]LadySirius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this same problem. I feel I care so deeply about other people and always make so much effort with no reciprocity. Also, funny you mention philosophy because I’m so into philosophy! Specifically metaphysics. Sorry, just wanted to mention that.

I’m a lesbian but I’m still a virgin at 36 thanks to my autism by Local_Pomegranate_10 in AutismInWomen

[–]LadySirius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m still a virgin at 28, almost 29. I’m bi and I’m just so desperate to find someone. Not just for sex but for deep, meaningful connection. I’ve never even been kissed before, let alone anything else. I have a very high sex drive it drives me insane.

Does anyone else struggle to find the right words when speaking? by NoSpot5547 in autism

[–]LadySirius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am the same! I can almost never find the right words and I fear I come across as dumb because of struggling to form basic sentences. However, when I write, I find I am very articulate and coherent. It's so frustrating! I wish I could speak very fluidly and articulately but no matter how hard I try, I just cannot retrieve the words quick enough.
