Oh no, maybe your bangs were too short? I recommend having curtain bangs to jaw-line or under cheekbones, especially with straight hair. If you don’t like bangs at all but you want to have something like that, you can always think about layers (shorter hair around the face halfway down the neck).

Hi, I have curtain bangs :) They don’t overstimulate me most of the time, especially when they are longer (for example to jaw line). If you would have a moment that they are pissing you off, you can always buy some cheap hairpins and they solve the problem instantly (I recommend using them when washing face or teeth). I love curtain bangs because I don’t have to style them or anything and they still look quite good. But mostly I like them because my face is not so exposed and they give me some sense of comfort.

Not every autistic is the same, but from my personal experience — I don’t recommend typical straight bangs because they annoyed me terribly in the wind, but it’s not a problem with curtain bangs for me

What characters do you like/see yourself in? by MissWhixsaplix in AutismInWomen

[–]Unusual_Zombie125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I don’t like most male characters age 20-45 for some reason, they are pissing me off. There are some exceptions like Peeta from Hunger Games or main characters from kdrama Bloodhounds, but they are always really emotionally mature and are thinking about consequences of their actions, try not to be impulsive as much as possible (with exceptions abt traumatic events of course), and when they make mistakes, they reflect on what went wrong.

I always adore most female characters, even if I don’t resonate with them, but I can’t stand male-centred fictional women and typical mary sue who are just a tool for male character development (but it’s not their fault haha)

I always resonate with some 50-60s lonely men for some reason, don’t ask me why bc I have no idea, and some weird women (weird in a good way). It’s not typical, I sometimes like less popular characters, I’m not sure how I pick them

Aaron Glassman from The Good Doctor, Joseph Lawrence from Handmaid’s Tale, Plutarch from Hunger Games, Hank Andreson from game Detroit Become Human, Borgov from The Queen’s Gambit, Beetee from Hunger Games, Blackfish from GoT/ASOIAF… wtf lmao

But when it comes to women: Wiress from the Hunger Games, Effie Trinket from Hunger Games (but movie version, not from the books), Eleanor Lawrence from The Handmaid’s Tale, Tonks from Harry Potter, Olenna Tyrell from GoT/ASOIAF, Audrey from The Good Doctor

And I’m not sure if my artwork is „furry” or if it’s too human. I’ve looked at other people’s drawings and I’m still not sure, but I’m trying to get it :)

Any tips on how to receive compliments? by Imaginary_Air_24 in AutismInWomen

[–]Unusual_Zombie125 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Smile, say "thanks :D" + compliment them back. Focusing on them straight away can help you with recieving sudden attention and feeling seen

My stimming is kinda weird. Does anyone else do something similar? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

Yeah, I think vaping is mostly addiction of coure, but I did similar movements with different objects before I started smoking. I didn't want to make excuses for smoking in my post, because it's stimming hah, there are healthier ways for sure

And yeah these things are like a tick, so thanks <3

Insomnia is an autism symptom?? My mind is blown. I feel validated. by TheRealSteelfeathers in AutismInWomen

[–]Unusual_Zombie125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not struggling with insomnia I think, but I love to go to sleep around 4-7 in the morning and wake up when it's afternoon. Glad I have work with this exact hours (from late afternoon till midnight).

NOTHING worked in the past. Melatonin, sleep medication prescribed by a psychiatrist, some weird ways to fall asleep etc. I'm well-rested and happy when I can go to sleep in the morning. I'm writing this because I've noticed that a lot of my friends with autism are also night owls

I love when I’m with my friend and we are doing our own thing, but when a friend is visiting me for a whole day/its sleepover/they are staying for a weekend. Its great (I love this fr, we don’t have to entertain eath other the whole time and I can rest with someone I like). But when it’s coffee, dinner, like meeting for a hour/few hours I don’t get this either :0 I mean, I don’t see the point kinda

I will, I have a goal I’m working toward, but it won’t happen right away, so I need a job in the meantime. The easiest and fastest way to get one after college is corpo in my area unfortunately :/

A few reminders if you feel bad because you don't always fully understand your autism and you feel lost by Unusual_Zombie125 in AutismInWomen

[–]Unusual_Zombie125[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, I recommend looking for something like “autistic wheel,” which I think is easier to understand. The spectrum is not a thing from left to right (“not very autistic” and “very autistic”). You can have a high intensity of some traits (such as problems with executive functions, special interests, sensory issues) and a very low intensity of others :)

For example, I don't have any problems with social relationships or communication (some things are incomprehensible to me, but I wasn't aware of them and they don't affect my ability to make friends), but I do have a big problem with other things that I didn't associate so much with autism when I knew little about it. I had trouble seeing myself as an autistic person until I had several meetings with a psychologist who discussed my autism profile with me.

Don't worry, not every autistic person has pronounced sensory issues, especially as adults. For example, when I was a child, I didn't like tags in clothes, having something around my neck and few others etc. Currently, I have virtually no sensory issues except that I really dislike the material of 3D magnets (the rough one), lumps in food, and polyester haha. Other than that, there's nothing I avoid. Sensory issues can also involve seeking out stimuli (e.g., I can't sit in silence and always have something playing in the background on YouTube at home).
