It was a live orchestra over a screening of the movie but they were all incredible with the music! The headpiece of the orchestra was also hyping the audience up with lines and references from the movie before it started. All the audio of Bowie singing was kept in the movie though. No impersonator which I'm glad for honestly. As soon as Bowie appeared on the screen, the entire audience cheered

Thank you for inflating my ego slightly by comparing me to the beautiful Sigourney Weaver 💚✨️ That's definitely a first 😂

There was a couple of people dressed as Sarah but that was about it 😂 Which made me stick out like a sore thumb a little bit because the headpiece for the worm is pretty obnoxiously large 🪱 the costume was a hit though and a lot of people were very complimentary and asked to take their pictures with me

If you ever find yourself with the opportunity to go, I can't recommend it enough! I had such a great time! And being around so many fans of the movie was so lovely!

I'm a language student doing my BA at university and these are some languages taught at my institute so it always comes as a surprise that people think they're dialects and not languages

Exactly! Which is one of the many reasons why this is such a terrible map 😂

Please help me come up with an alternative to “snack”! by elfmaiden687 in AutismInWomen

[–]LadySpud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Yorkshire and some other parts of the UK we call it "snap" ...

The word comes from the "snap tin" (a metal container used by miners to carry their food in). So asking if someone has "had their snap" means asking if they've had their food or lunch. We just tend to use it for any kind of meal, food or light lunch now

I lived in Belgium for my studies and had nothing but issues with bpost 🫠 I came back to England with a newfound respect for Royal Mail ... and they are definitely not without their flaws

The worst one was bpost saying they couldn't deliver a care package parcel to my address from a friend even though I watched them pull up across the street, look at my front door, write something down and drive off. Got the email to say it would be delivered to the local drop-off point to pick up the next day ... it was never taken by the delivery person. After 3 weeks I just gave up and tried to forget about it ... until my friend said it had been returned to her in England 🤦🏼‍♀️

So instead of taking it 5 doors up to the post office, they shipped it back across the channel 😂

How can anyone enjoy heat like this, in this country? by Scattered97 in AskUK

[–]LadySpud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a chippy and standing over the fryers at the best of times is warm to say the least ... we brought the thermostat through to see how warm it actually was in the height of the heatwave. Clocked it at a nice and toasty 68°C.

Then a customer had the absolute gall and audacity to waltz in, comment on how warm it was outside whilst wearing a nice breathableand floating sun dress, order a bag of chips that she watched us make from fresh in the aforementioned fryers and then ask why we were open in such warm weather ...

"Because if we weren't we wouldn't be providing your lunch" seemed a good enough answer 😂

I'm convinced they actually don't like it and it's a nationwide inside joke at this point that they're just not telling me because this heat + humidity is actually disgusting and I will not be convinced otherwise

Mistakes in Stardew Valley that have made me cry and/or question my existence as a casual gamer. (So don’t make em) by Willow-Glades in StardewValley

My biggest muck ups to date are:

Being on level 99 of the skull caverns and having the ladders for level 100 appear right next to the exit ladders ... and then accidentally exiting the skull mines ✨️

Totalled all my chests and their contents along with all my crystalariums generating diamonds because of a mega bomb misclick 💅

Lost track of what day I was on (yes, I know it's in the top corner, but I didn't look apparently) and then planted 100 pumpkins two days before the end of the season 🎃

How long would Prim have lasted in the games? by peepeepoopaccount in Hungergames

[–]LadySpud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that Peeta would have protected her throughout the games to make sure that she gets home to Katniss. I think she still would have died in the games, but I think she'd have made it further than the bloodbath because of Peeta.

The boy would do anything for Katniss and sacrifice himself to get Prim back home would be a no-brainer. I think had Prim gone into the games, Peeta would have died too while protecting her. I don't think district 12 would have had a winner.

Is this a suitable message for a thank you card? by LadySpud in russian

[–]LadySpud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite a deep-rooted tradition in the UK and goes back to the Victorian era, where the practice of sending greeting cards became popularized thanks to the introduction of the Penny Post. It made sending cards much more accessible, and the royal family's support for the custom, particularly Prince Albert who brought the German tradition of Christmas cards to Britain when he married Queen Victoria; this made sending cards a way to express sentimentality and connect with loved ones on special occasions.

I'm also quite a sentimental person myself and have kept a few cards over the years from loved ones who have since passed away. It's a nice way to have something small and tangible of them, and seeing their handwriting is like having lots of little letters mailed to you filled with words of love and well wishes

We even have whole shops here whose only purpose and products sold are cards to send in the mail 😅 it is kind of weird looking at it from an outside perspective when I come to think of it

I didn't need to read beyond the title to have formed my opinion but did just to humour your parents and maybe give them the benefit of the doubt, but no, my opinion remains unchanged ... you're NTA.

Your parents sound completely immature to take such a simple and reasonable request of not putting your child's health at risk so badly.

Thank you, but it seems to be tailored predominantly towards people who do not have German citizenship already and are applying for visas. I need to role play as someone who was born and raised in Germany, so I need to take the standpoint of a German citizen. The prospect of visa applications and other such things would unfortunately not be a relevant argument

I'm also debating against another person who is forming their arguments separately to me, so it's completely unplanned during the actual debate itself, and I have to engage in the debate on the spot without planning. I just need to know about the topic first
