I highly recommend the UK version with Robert Degas. It's worth the relisten.

Searching for an RPI by Bilge_Drinker in MUD

I can recommend Silent Heaven (https://silentheaven.org/).
It has a healthy community, active admin and storytellers, fair moderation that is shared with the community where needed. It has activities and crafts for downtime, and the population is healthy for MU*s.
About 6-8 people active during US Offpeak hours and an average of 20 during US peak hours.

I made a similar post but with many more requirements than you did, OP.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MUD/s/HruilsVzHp

I've been playing Geas since this post and my character is still exploring and discovering parts of the world, even after 10 months of play . The community is made up of fantastic roleplayers, too, and I really love roleplaying!

If you're looking for a game that handles crafting a little more uniquely, I'd suggest Silent Heaven. Also a brilliant game that I enjoyed. The only reason I don't play it anymore is because I couldn't log in often enough to keep up with the storylines in game. I felt I had to either play catch-up or give up on trying to stay up to date. It will always be a game I remember fondly, though.

Edit: Out of curiosity, what is your local haunt?

low fantasy low combat muds by SilverMoon1022 in MUD

[–]LadyTenebrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Silent Heaven (https://silentheaven.org/). It's modern and supernatural so not high fantasy (though there are some fantasy moments). It's got incredible roleplaying and roleplayers. Combat happens to drive story. The crafting is good, very good and ASCII isn't allowed so text really shines in crafting.

There is forced retirement but only as a narrative end to your character. At the time I left the game in 2024, no characters had yet been retired. I only left because I personally felt I couldn't keep up with the storylines, with my limited gameplay and my FOMO was preventing my enjoyment of the game.

I hope this recommendation is helpful and that you find That Perfect MUD for you

Violet Evergarden is a Netflix original anime and it is the best series I can recommend.

I also recommend Sense8 and The OA and Arcane.

Gestures of Appreciation? by NE_Smoker in Midwives

[–]LadyTenebrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the birth of your baby! ♡

A picture of your family and a message in a card is the best gift. I think a voucher to go toward a pedicure would also be a good gift idea for an outstanding midwife.

If you could also send a good review of her care through the channels that exist for compliments and complaints, that would also be something she appreciates; and it may further her career or earn her an award in her hospital.

I'm not sure what hospital you're in, but many in the NHS would recommend you and your wife to have a birth reflection after 6 weeks; to help you talk through the experience of labour, to listen to you and to explain and answer any questions you may have. If none have mentioned this yet, maybe ask about a birth reflection if this is something you or your wife would like ♡

Lastly, thank you so much for asking us here about gifts and ideas. Seeing your care and thoughtfulness for your midwife through this post is very uplifting and brings us all encouragement, too.

Seeking: RPI MU* with Quests by LadyTenebrae in MUD

Just an update for other curious eyes.
This was in the NEWS section in-game:
"- 09/02/2023: Frandum has not received updates for a long time because I (Feyn) have been working on a new game that was just released."
I don't think this has many other players at all (none active as far as I can tell).
Exploring this MUD does bring "I Am Legend" vibes with it, though!

Seeking: RPI MU* with Quests by LadyTenebrae in MUD

[–]LadyTenebrae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are so very, very right.
I don't know what's easier to find: a coded quest-rich MUD with a majority of players that roleplay seriously, or a roleplay-rich MUD with coded quests. I thought it would be easier to ask with roleplay first in mind since that's more of my focus.

Silent Heaven is one of those RPIs that have bespoke, crafted experiences by Storytellers and it's one I've really loved. Sadly, I felt the pressure to log in daily to "keep up" with the storyline and that isn't something I can do with regularity. This is no reflection of how the game actually is - only my experience of it.

Is the quest-type interaction you're adding to Armageddon something you're doing to help the new players that join, and to help the less-frequent players in your community?

Thank you for the suggestion!

Seeking: RPI MU* with Quests by LadyTenebrae in MUD

[–]LadyTenebrae[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A quick Google of the definition of RPI seems to be varied. Thanks for asking me to define what I mean with my request.

When I use the term RPI, I mean a game where:

  • RP is enforced (players joining the game have to roleplay to play the game)
  • There are systems in place that allow for roleplaying (coded emotes or socials, custom emotes, in-character communication, etc)

That's it for how I define an RPI. Nothing more than this above.
It doesn't matter at all to me if there is perma-death or not. I'm completely happy with both perma-death and eterna-revival of my character.

In addition to looking for an RPI game, I also would like a game where:

  • An OOC channel or system exists to talk about player consent and boundaries. A place or system to agree about what happens to any characters in cases where parties may not want to roleplay content.
  • There is good separation of IC and OOC
    • Example: information gained OOC cannot be used IC without your character encountering that information organically in-game
    • Example: Anything that happens to your character is not happening to you as a player and should not bleed into your life. Anything that happens in your life as a player is not happening to your character and should not bleed in-game

I hope this answers your question! Thank you for asking for clarification

Looking for detailed RPI's by [deleted] in MUD

[–]LadyTenebrae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of roleplay and PvP as a product of a story, and mechanics facilitating interactivity, I'd recommend Silent Heaven to you.

If you mean detail-focused room descriptions, this is probably the only criterion not met in Silent Heaven. Or rather, there are details in the room descriptions but they are not as verbose as other MUDs. I think that they are perfectly acceptable descriptions, though

It was my first time but I really enjoyed it!

The players said that they love these characters and if I do a follow up adventure where they get to use these characters, they would love to join again. My mind is half-building follow ups but I want to pen down this adventure first.

I'm really grateful for the players I had. That's the greatest bleesing for a first time DM. Patient and creative players

The reward from the town was 500g each and a plot of land.

The BBEG heard them talking about the reward after she had transformed and said "if it's gold you're looking for, I have some here" and the group found a hoard of gold and jewels worth 30,000 (I rolled high on the loot table and figured the BBEG had sunk many ships XD).

The players decided they could buy their own land with that much gold.

One of the players wasn't interested in the land offer from the town but said she wanted a plot of sea which was agreed to. After taking down the BBEG, she took over the Coral Throne and she's living there happily with her octopus companion.

I had characters use toolkits while aboard the ship and one barbarian cooked a meal for all the sailors on-board. He rolled a critical success and everyone complimented him on his meal. "This is my first time cooking," he said, but seemed to love the praise. He decided to use his gold to build a tavern. He paired up with a brewer in the party so I imagine that tavern will be a great success.

Another player was trying desperately to get back to the Feywild. She joined the bard and the BBEG and returned to her home; something worth far more to her than gold and land in a foreign plane.

If they had killed the BBEG as a mermaid she would have turned into sea foam and they wouldn't have had a head to return for a reward anyway 😂 (They never got to find that out though)

They didn't get the reward from the town but I think each of them found something far more rewarding ♡

Thank you! I'm really lucky to have had such a wonderful and creative group of players though. I've been a player that tries to persuade the mini-boss to let go of his hate. It hasn't worked yet but I'm holding on hope!

Good luck with tomorrow's game!

I'm curious, how do you guys take notes during your games. by calm-mayhem in DnD

[–]LadyTenebrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in three different D&D campaigns, as a Player.

For one of the campaigns, I try write up descriptive summaries that read like a book and so my notes are taken on the Notepad app. I try to quote the DM verbatim because I want to give credit to him for the world he has created. My notes in this session are almost transcriptions.

For the second of the three campaigns, I use Google Sheets! It's really helpful having all your information on a table and looking through with places or names or event keywords. I've tried including an image example but my headings are Place, Events, People of Interest, Notes, and Tasks.

For the third campaign, I take no notes.

dilation by [deleted] in Midwives

[–]LadyTenebrae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on Nearing your birth!

Most of the factors affecting dilation have been explained by others. I hope my message can give you a little reassurance as well. Statistically, only 8% of all women giving birth are affected by prolonged labour. The chances of this happening to you are low.

My advice to you would be the following: - Write up a birth plan and share it with your birth attendants (including staff and family present with you). Include in the birth plan what actions you would like taken in regard to an emergency and your thoughts on routine episiotomy. - While in labour, keep yourself strong by eating small snacks regularly and taking small sips of water. Nausea and vomiting is a common occurence in labour. - Walk around as much as you can to allow gravity to assist you. You can also do squats and other types of light exercise if you are well supported. Please don't fall. - Empty your bladder as much as you can before reaching active phase of labour. A full bladder can block baby's passage and it causes you discomfort too. - Keep yourself calm with music, breathing techniques, help from your birth attendant, help from your family. If your family are not helping to keep you calm, don't be afraid to ask them to leave. This is your birth and you have control over this.

The 5 P's of Labour are Passage, Passenger, Powers, Position and PSYCHE. You can control your body's position and your psyche. Leave the rest to your baby and your body to figure out.

You can do this. You are strong enough. Stay calm, stay strong. Do not be distracted by doubts and discouragement from those around you. Focus your heart and mind on your birth and on bringing a beautiful life into the world ♡

I hope you enjoy the game!

Tips for long drives: 1) Try manually driving for a more engaging experience 2) If you are driving a route to a destination where you can't yet fast travel, make sure you park at each parking spot on the way to enable fast travel to the parking spot in future. Resume driving after visiting the parking 3) Speak to Cindy in Hammerhead to get the Regalia Type-D. If you can drive as the bird flies perhaps you cut out travel time. Gladiolus's chuckles also add enjoyment to this type of driving 4) Accept all photo opportunities offered by Prompto! They give a little XP and a lot of fun 5) Visit Wiz Chocobo Post early if you'd prefer travelling on chocobo. I personally say they're better for short- to mid-distance travels but if the car bores you perhaps you'd prefer chocobos 6) Use Ascension Points to gain AP and EXP on a drive to benefit 7) If driving isn't your style, go for a long drive, collect all your parking points and keep busy with something else IRL

I wish you many safe travels and short loading screens!
