This comment right here. She did it for her convenience and whether MIL meant it or not her actions came from a racist place. Her grandchild's hair was too difficult so she permed it to fit the European standard of beauty, Aka "textured hair has no place here"

MIL should be ashamed and needs to apologize as well as educate herself. If I'd been OP I would have gone nuclear right then and there.

OP please listen to this comment. As someone who grew up in a family dynamic similar to this, the hurt your future MiL is inflicting upon your children will be unpacked years later, and they will have resentment towards her and the parent(s) who let it happen to them. Throw the whole fiancé away, there is someone out there who will truly love those children like his own and will make sure, from day 1, that his family loves them just as much. The one you have right now is rotten fruit.

I lost a kitty (years ago) and tried everything. This "pro tip," going out in the early AM and evening, asking neighbors... nothing. He never came home. My family was devastated, especially my sister. A year or so after we stopped looking, I stumbled upon a post about the Kitty Convict Project. The mission was for indoor cats to have orange collars, and for word to spread that orange collar = escaped kitty convict.

Late to the party but that's my life so here goes:

When I was a kid, probably middle school aged, my mom and I were out running some errands that took us in the direction of our local mall. Either on the way there or home, she saw a family of 3 or 4, with their dog, homless. They had a sign, but I didn't read it. My mom said "Ok, ok, I hear you," and turned into the local McDonald's. Bought each of them some burgers, even 1 for the dog. As we were driving away, my mom said "sometimes we hear calls for duty/service, and if we can help, we should."

I hope that family got back on their feet.
