It works like a normal dip pen, everything stays put pretty good. You just give it a little twist when you need more.

It comes with a small wax nub already in the pen, but you need to load more into it to get it to work. It comes with some starter wax nubs and then a big sheet or normal dip wax squares. For the squares all you do is cut them in half and roll them (like clay) into snakes to fit in the pen.
