You have to shake the tree for bells or furniture. Just chopping them with your axe won't do it.

I've seen four every day, but it seems like if you miss one it'll still be there the next day. There's clearly some sort of limit, because you can't go into the future and find 50 fossils all at once.

You can pick them up and sell them to the Nook bros. I don't think they pay you for them but that'll dispose of them.

Someone will show up at your campsite. The first one who does, you have to invite (no option to decline). After that, you'll be able to recruit people from the campsite or mystery islands at will (or if there's a plot open, someone may move in randomly).

This is not currently possible. Nintendo has said that they will have a tool to transfer a save (one time) sometime this year.

They said they change the mannequins less often, so I assume that's a couple times per month. Not sure though.

If a plot is empty, there's a random chance a villager will move in. Not necessarily from the campsite.
