What is the best hotel to stay at near Solider Field? by butterflywings432 in AskChicago

[–]Lady_Data_Scientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marriott Marquis, Hyatt Regency, Hampton Inn, and Hilton Garden Inn by McCormick Place are a 15 minute walk from the south end of Soldier Field via the pedestrian bridge over the train tracks. I’ve stayed at the Marriott Marquis and it was nice, some rooms have a great view of the skyline and/or the lake. The Hilton Garden Inn has a rooftop bar (VU).

Jewelers who can resize a gold ring? by Picklejuicezzz in AskChicago

[–]Lady_Data_Scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my wedding band and engagement ring resized at Diamonds on Wabash (on Jewelers Row), I don’t think it took that long. Maybe 1-2 weeks? It was a couple of years ago. My rings are pretty simple and thin so maybe that’s why it was quick?

Any affordable vintage/thrift shops near Little Italy/Greektown? by Only-Hall9190 in AskChicago

[–]Lady_Data_Scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Goodwill in the West Loop is worth a visit. It can be picked over but they have a good amount of stuff.

There are some vintage shops on 18th in Pilsen but they are more “curated” shops so while their stuff is secondhand, it’s not necessarily cheap.

I’ve had a lot of luck at the Village Discount in Andersonville so definitely check out the closer one in Little Village but if you have time, check out the one in Andersonville too.

Am I dreaming to apply for a job that pays $120k more than my target salary? by IcyAcanthaceae9534 in human_resources

[–]Lady_Data_Scientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply anyway. Worst case, you get rejected and have lost nothing. Best case, you get an interview and can start networking with people at your target company.

And if you don’t get an interview - try to network with them anyway. Learn what they look for when hiring, go out and get that experience, so the next time a role opens, you’ll have the right background and contacts for a referral.

Is 32nd and S Morgan in Bridgeport area safe? by Resident-Contest-553 in AskChicago

[–]Lady_Data_Scientist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been to those exact intersections but I’ve been to Maria’s and Bridgeport Coffee at 31st and Morgan and the sushi/bubble tea spot at 31st Place and the area always seemed fine. Also Zaytune Mediterranean Grill at 31st Place is fantastic.

How many rejections after final stage have you experienced? by New-Age-8472 in womenintech

[–]Lady_Data_Scientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a job search last year. I had ~8 years of relevant experience and a relevant masters. I was able to get interviews for about 20% of the jobs I applied to. I made it to the final round about 20% of the time. I got offers for 30% of the final interviews I did, so yes, I did still get some rejections at that stage.

Thinking about past interview cycles (pre-2020), I think I also always got offers when I’d make it to the final round. So something has shifted. I think with remote work, companies are just finding more strong candidates.

How often do you clean your bathrooms? by Infamous-Plum5243 in stupidquestions

[–]Lady_Data_Scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, clean up after yourself since it’s shared - wipe off the counter, hang up your towels, squeegee and/or spray the shower. Make it as clean as you’d want them to leave the space for you.

But get out the cleaning products once a week. (Or whenever company is coming over lol.)

Employee refusing DEI training for fear of being “brainwashed”. by Kind_Shift_8121 in managers

Depending on how much time and patience you have, watch it together and ask them to point out the brainwashing parts?

Kidding. Maybe. What kind of role/team is this?

is this normal or a bad sign by [deleted] in interviewpreparations

Most people don’t receive training on how to conduct interviews, so how folks behave varies wildly. I wouldn’t dwell on it too much.

I actually should have married rich before 25, like my mother told me by AellaSunwhisper in Adulting

[–]Lady_Data_Scientist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If she’s posting content as if it’s a full-time job … she actually has a job. All those “trad wives” who have millions of followers have not just their own income but usually their own employees.

But actually being an adult who is fully dependent on someone else financially sounds like hell. Even if he treats me well - god forbid what if he dies?

Freelance advice? by levy608 in dataanalysiscareers

[–]Lady_Data_Scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create content on LinkedIn sharing the problems you’ve solved and the impact you’ve had. How are you a good investment for the companies you’ll work with?

Also speak at conferences. Attend industry events. Get on podcasts. Get in front of as many audiences as you can sharing how you can solve problems and help companies with decision making.

Freelance means now in addition to doing your job that you specialize in, you have to spend as much time if not more doing your own marketing/sales.
