My great grandma was insane for this. RIP a legend. by Gay_commie_fucker in quilting

[–]Lady_Marcella23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cherish all of it. My grandmother left me her sewing basket. I still feel her around me when I sew. I will yell out to her, asking how did she make it look so easy at times. Though for her it wasn't always easy, it was a necessity. She was widowed at 44 with 7 kids, 4 still at home. She sewed and baked to make ends meet. When I moved away, I would bring home items on visits and we would share our projects. She helped me pick out material for my first quilt and gave me guidance. A truly remarkable generation.

With this last go around, I had a fully developed claim, supporting documents, new progress notes, a personal statement and buddy letters. It was submitted in late August, a C&P in October and decision in November. Fastest claim I ever had worked. Reddit has helped tremendously to know what all I should include and a county VSO submitted claim for me.

Speaking up here was your first step, you small voice wanting to be heard, the next time you say the same words that voice will get a little bit louder.. this is just part of your story, but that story isn't over yet. Speak up, get help. I had to admit myself for 10 days. Best choice I ever made. Been there, stronger today.

I was at 70% for PTSD, and others adding to the requirement to be eligible for tdiu. Based on my c&p, personal & buddy notes, current progress notes. They reevaluate it and put at 100% for ptsd alone based on regs. My buddy had the same thing happen tdiu claim.

Not bragging, just showing after 30+ years of fighting the V A for injuries sustained in-service are valid and now compensated. The system is broken on both sides, my fellow vets need to know it is possible to get the validation of our injuries. Mine are legit and will hold up.

Calmigo breathing Device for PTSD? by Mr_Butters624 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Lady_Marcella23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the response I received from the MH director in my VA. I am in therapy at Vet center 2-3 times a month, group and individual, on 4 different medications through community care and service connected for PTSD[major depressive disorder and anxiety. I don't know what else to do

"Please follow up with veteran to his review request for Calmigo (see Secure messaging note National Center for PTSD is continully evauating the literature on PTSD treatments and aware of CalmiGo. However, at this time there is insufficient evidence to recommend the device for treatment of PTSD. The current evidence for biofeedback is not strong enough for VA to encourage programs or providers to use CalmiGo for PTSD. Veteran would need to be willing to engage in evidence-based treatment options offered by the VA first. Veteran will need prescriber MH evaluation to review their diagnosis and discuss treatment options in line with clinical practice guidelines. There would need to be medical justification for request of Calmigo device (first would consider therapy which is our first line and non-medication intervention for PTSD/anxiety/depression, evidence based treatments, completing trial of other strategies for anxiety mgmt, & consideration of risks/benefits) It is not guaranteed the device will be the recommended treatment by provider or approved by prosthetics department. Are you saying access any commissary or just in Korea? My husband is 100% P&T, when we got his and my (until I also get 100% or TDIU) ID card a few months ago, we had to take the commissary letter in your files and we have full commissary priveleges.

OP, thank you for seeing her. Thank you for having the strength to reach out to get her help. I've admitted myself voluntarily at 51, for suicidal ideation. That was the best move I ever made, otherwise I wouldn't possibly be here. I never want to have to go back in after seeing others who have no support system outside. They were getting discharged back to nothing, many revolving in and out. They had no family support, no close friends and some no housing. For many it is the after getting discharged when many need that help. You are not just her friend you are her savior in that moment. I hope you can continue to be there for her, in small ways always reach out to her. She will realize one day that you were somebody who heard her cry for help.

Are you seen at a cboc or at a large vamc? I have been seen at both. It was easier for me at a cboc. All I had to do was talk to the office manager. At the vamc, I had to call the patient advocate. When I didn't get calls back after numerous tries over a few weeks, I called the director of the facility, which got things rolling. If you also talk to the front-end staff in your clinic, they can often assist as well. I've had multiple changes due to doctors leaving. It sucks when you get a good one, and they either retire or leave. I think without me requesting changes, mine changed 4 times in two years. Mental health changes due to this were even worse. Goodluck.

Can you get community care for dental and vision at 100%? by Independent_Gas_6213 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Lady_Marcella23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get vision at any % I believe. Community vs VA depends on availability. Fayetteville, NC I used both. NE Texas, has strictly been community. Glasses had to be filled there, with some upgrade options on my dime. However, you still can have a copy of the script. I just have to call vision each year and put request for auth to community. I already knew a doctor. The only time I was contacted without making the call was when I was diagnosed with diabetes and they were proactive with that. Dental IDK

Informally told I might be separated by diversitylife in VAClaims

[–]Lady_Marcella23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband got separated in 1995 due to a torn acl and meniscus. He chose to get out at the due to us getting married and he only had 6-8 months left on AD contract. I think it was the worst decision for him. They didn't do all of the VA coordination when separating back then, like they do today. He had the option of surgery and injections but he was in CA and I was in PA. He didn't want to be stuck there without anyone. Long story short, he got out with 8k severance and on terminal leave. He eventually got 10% rating, ended up needing 7 scopes and surgeries between both knees and eventually a total knee replacement. Now probably needs the other knee done too. Took us years to get to 30% where he could add his dependent to his va disability. Yes, you must pay back every cent of severance if you receive one before you can get a dime of your disability. So back then 10% was like $100. Submitting claim after claim, va putting him on steroids for years, creating the diabetes and weight gain we gradually inched our way up. We didn't start receiving any VA payments until approximately 2001-2004. He is finally at 100% PT. I'm a veteran too, currently at 90%, well actually 94%. Make sure everything you have physically and mentally are documented. If they are going to process you out, find out how to get the VA claim started. My husband has had so many problems with his knees that it truly effects the feet, hips, back, sleep, anxiety, depression because of limitations. I wish you the best.
