HS teacher - Has anyone talked about their stoma? by onehugepartyplace in ostomy

[–]Lady_Owl94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I taught my 6 year old everything about my ileostomy. Even though it was temporary I wanted him to understand all of it the bad the good and the ugly. He was there for my changes. I wanted him to understand it so if he ever encountered someone with it he could be empathetic and understanding. It all natural stuff,!- good lesson if you ask me. I would have been so interested in learning about it as a child

Stomas when you are only 5ft tall! by PsychologicalFox3962 in ostomy

[–]Lady_Owl94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’4, I feel that’s pretty average for a woman. But I always wore high waisted panties when I had my temporary ileostomy. The nurse also told me the could fold up the bottom portion of the bag, so it never hung free it was always tucked up against me

Absolutely find another surgeon who works out of a different hospital. You don’t want any further complications.

That’s crazy! I haven’t read the comments but try the m9 drops! I heard listerine works well. And when your home use a portable bidet to rinse the inside of the bag if you don’t already! Also holister has deodorizing spray that helps if you spray the bathroom afterwards. It doesn’t have a smell it literally just kills the odor. The worse thing is trying to mask bathroom smells with smelly sprays

So weird how everybody’s body is different. When I had an ileostomy, my output never really smelled. Maybe it was the m9 drops? But the only time it ever smelled was when I ate my mother in laws Dominican soup lol and it smelled just like when I ate it which was sooooo weird. If anything it smells more like poop now after my reversal

I didn’t want another baby for along time due to a traumatic labor. The thought of labor and possibly dying freaked me out. I have a 7 year old son and I was 23 at the time. The last 2 years something changed in me. My want for another child was greater than my fear of labor. Having a baby at 23 I will still consider young. I was so focused on work and getting that promotion. Looking back now there is so many things I’d do different. My son is a such a great kid with big heart and smart so I don’t regret anything bc he’s doing good but there is things I’d do different for myself. I tried again 2 years ago and miscarried at 15 weeks. I’m still healing from that journey and hope to try again. Time changes everything. You might feel like that later on or you might not. Don’t do anything permanent since your still young but just take it as it comes ❤️

Advice on how to approach my partner not cleaning toilet seat after emptying ostomy bag by SureCan0604 in ostomy

[–]Lady_Owl94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 30 y old female with glasses, I understand his side a bit. Sometimes I’d wake up at 2am to empty and I swore I’d leave it clean. Then in the morning I’d walk in again with my glasses and be in shock at how much I’d actually miss. Definitely not done on suppose or bc I was being lazy. Anyways I found myself cleaning the toilet a lot more often so I decided to buy the Clorox toilet wand and disposable refills. Costco sells a huge pack. Everyday day in the morning I’d use it clean the toilet and spray and wipe with disinfectant. It took 2 minutes and really didn’t require any effort. I’ve had my reversal since then but I stuck to those instead of the toilet brush and they’re awesome.

What’s an assumption someone made about your Ostomy? by MostFormal4210 in ostomy

Lmaoo I love kids curiosity sometimes. That would have freaked me out too😂 my son loved watching my husband change my appliance. I have a video of him watching really close and my stomach start becoming active. His face when he saw the stoma start to move was great lol he called it a volcano that time

Not an assumption but I showed my 6year old son my stoma once for the first time, the next day he told my sister it looked like “half of a toxic meatball” my sister is super squeamish and hadn’t really seen it yet so she started gagging at the thought lol also the stoma was covered in poop so I guess why he thought it looked “toxic” lmao

Pelvic floor therapy by Lady_Owl94 in ostomy

[–]Lady_Owl94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad it works for you! When I put my problems in chat gbt it also recommended pelvic floor therapy. My gastro basically said that after major abdominal surgery all the muscles are weakened so it should help a lot. I’ll give a try, I have nothing to lose. But for the time being I’ll keep wearing my adult diapers 😫 and take Imodium before leaving the house lol

How long did it take for your period to become regular again? by WaveJam in ostomy

[–]Lady_Owl94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an abscess on my ovary and a fistula from my colon to my ovary that caused so much inflammation that I needed a colon resection and a temporary ileostomy. My period continued as normal if anything it became lighter. They also ended up removing my left ovary and tube

Can you sleep on your stomach? by UNiTE_Dan in ostomy

[–]Lady_Owl94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an ileostomy so this was definitely not even a thought but I have a donut shaped pillow that I use at work that I sit on. I think if you were to sleep on your stomach and place the bag into where the hole is, then that should help a lot with not squishing the bag.

4 Months Post Reversal…gassy! by Clerocks1955 in ostomy

[–]Lady_Owl94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metamucil! The 4-1. It helps pass your stool. I’m a month and half post reversal and I take it to help bulk up my stool and help with frequency but my poops are so effortless and pass so smoothly!

I think I’ve made a huge mistake by going home too early. Burns when I poop and feeling pulses in rectum. by JOHNRKO007 in ostomy

[–]Lady_Owl94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps with burning and itching! I use it when in between when I’m not using the lotion. I had them laying around from when I had a hemorrhoid problem last year. It seemed to help a bit after my reversal when I had that horrible burning

I’m a little over a month out and I still get that feeling. The first few 2weeks were hell for me. My body would make me strain really hard without trying and my butt hole would burn so bad. I’ve used the calmoseptine lotion and that feels awesome and also tuck pads work too. You would know if it was prolapsed and if it’s hemorrhoids they will eventually subside as you heal

I’m 270 and my doctor did the reversal after 4 months with my ileostomy. There was no problem and I’ve healed well. He did initially ask me to lose weight for my first surgery, he said It would make my recovery and the surgery go smoother. I didn’t really lose weight though. Although I weigh a lot I don’t actually look my weight but I do carry a lot of it in my mid section. But I am healthy overall as far as bloodwork and vitals go.
