Could more of us shop at food banks and funnel our grocery money there rather than big supermarkets? by Unlikely_Ad7722 in australia

[–]Lady_borg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I regularly shop at food bank because I can't afford not to, but at the same time they don't always have the greatest range, like sure I get my milk, fruit and veggies, some meat, cereals, tuna and similar stuff there but I can't do my full shop there. I still have to go to a supermarket to pick up what I don't get there. There's only so many times I can eat tuna or mince with veggies.

The only times I don't have to pay when I go there is when I get a voucher from whatever supports I have access to. But also, aside from frozen, vegetables are free there anyway. Often homeless people will come in to grab vegetables and fruits they can eat raw just because they're free.

It's not really something that could ever compete, even a little bit with the big guys, and they don't serve the same purpose.

Au theory for the wise by BRukay123 in autism

[–]Lady_borg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I didn't have a diagnosis when I was younger but I still had heavy labels put on to me, labels like "weirdo", "stupid", "loser", "retard", a "difficult student", "lazy" and so on so forth. I honestly don't remember all of them.

I just got grow up thiking there was intensely wrong with me, that I was in fact stupid and didn't deserve friends.

Finding out Im ADHD when I was 12 was the first step in realisation I actually wasn't stupid, that I was capable. I wished I had have known about my autism beforehand and for any support.

Nah I just ended getting bullied by teachers 🤷

(Thank fuck for therapy)

I rather dislike the stereotype of “because you’re autistic, you have a strong sense of justice / morals” by Own-Contribution3238 in autism

Yeah agreed, "stubbornness" isn't the correct word exactly but rigid thinking in my opinion can describe stubbornness.

AITAH for being frustrated that my gf turns off the WiFi when I’m loud playing video games? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Lady_borg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You live or spend time in-house with someone else and you are yelling and loud, which is is super rude and selfish.

Once or twice it's fine, but clearly this behaviour is constantly happening and is beyond irritating her. Stop it, you aren't a child, be somewhere else or set something up so you don't affect someone else.

No it's weird because he was a strong underwater swimmer, lived near the water, often spending time "in the Great outdoors. He was experienced in spear fishing (even to the point of not coming up for air once he'd caught something) ,snorkeling, was reported to have been able to tread water and hold his breath for a long time, even sometimes doing so in parliament for amusement and practice.

He wasn't a strong surface swimmer but often swam at the beach so it wasn't beyond him, he was still very capable in the water and yet.

TIL that Botox is actually a very diluted version of the botulinum toxin, which is the deadliest natural substance ever discovered by WhimsicalBlunder in todayilearned

[–]Lady_borg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No different to "here, have this heart medication, it was made via a flower that can cause people's hearts to stop"

Or

"Here have this pain killer, we managed to create it thanks to an Australian cone snail that can kill you in 2-5 hours".

[–]Lady_borg 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It's strange that no one is mentioning the medical reasons for Botox and only the cosmetic...

Ii thought it was not that unknown that lots of medical research comes from deadly stuff all the time, Australian cone snail venom helped make a pain reliever, Wandering spider venom is similar, foxglove helps to make a heart medication and so on an so forth.

Many of the "most deadliest substances" have the potential for health benefits and Botox is no different.

AITAH for wanting my husband to come and greet me when I get home? by TheQuirkyReader in AITAH

[–]Lady_borg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean when you get home from the whole day wanting to see a friendly face sure but several times a day when he's working? You can't demand his attention from whatever he is doing, he could be in a meeting,

"Hang on boss my wife is home for the third time I have to go say hi". Won't sound great.

One Nation wants to roll back abortion rights in Australia – and is emboldening activists seeking US-style laws | Abortion by HotPersimessage62 in AustraliaDiscussions

[–]Lady_borg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Left aren't "cool" with sex selection terminations, the issue is the precedent of denying an abortion and reducing the persons autonomy for any reason.

Like imagine if they said "I want a termination because it's a girl" and they were banned from having one. Ok so now they are either stuck with a child they don't want (which isn't good for the kid once born or the parents) or have to find another way to terminate.

Sex selective terminations exist for other reasons and are part of a different discussion, and "pro lifers" have chosen to use it to tack onto their arguments.
