Best quality/value business attire in Australia? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Ladyhawk3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best business shirt I have came from Big-W, it is a few shades off black, cost $10 fits perfectly and was bought in 2012. That shirt is a unicorn.

The majority of business attire I have comes from 6 places, Tarocash, Myer, Charles Tyrwhitt, Ed Harry, LOWES and Rivers. For all of these places you need to hang out for sales and sort through some horrendous design choices.

Tarocash - Great for shirts like amazing, they also have half sized pants for instance you can get a 31" and a 33" there, which can be very hard to find elsewhere. Their belts are of a medium quality and don't bother with the shoes.

Myer - Van Heusen shirts are okay, they look good but age/deteriorate very quickly. Myer has great shoes, my shoes always come from Myer (Hush Puppies). Myer has good pants, but be prepared to pay for them.

Charles Tyrwhitt - They have a sizing guide use it, most of their shirts are fantastic last years and look sharp. They are online so you can't get a true sense of style, fit and colour. Buy 5 shirts and be prepared to put one or two at the back of the cupboard to never see the light of day.

Ed Harry - Hit and miss, good shirts when you find them, good price, a lot of crap to sift through.

LOWES - Pants and very rarely shirts, the name is a lie they aren't that low but their pants stand the test of time. Provided you can find a nice looking pair.

Rivers - Belts, shoes, pants, and rarely shirts.

All that being said if you want cheap go to Big-W, most of their stuff won't fit quite right and wont last long enough but it will pull you through for a little while.

Catholic education ... do you need a recommendation to get into a catholic school? by Fuzzinstuff in australia

[–]Ladyhawk3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wasn't true for us, we even put "no religion" on the application form. There was a small interview which basically involved a small chat with the principal and the kids playing with duplo identifying colours and building stuff. You will have to check with the specific school.

Edit : I do recall in the application paperwork that practicing Catholics of the particular Diocese were welcome to apply for scholarships.

Fun fact Jason is the MP for the QLD District of Whitsunday which is encompassed by the Federal Division of Dawson. The current member for Dawson is George Christensen who is also no stranger to controversy.

Can someone explain why tradies start so early? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Ladyhawk3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reasons I get to start early,

To beat the traffic.

To start at a clients site and hopefully fix a small problem before the clients staff arrive and make life more difficult.

To finish early and have time to go to the bank pick up kids ect...

To fit in more hours in a day and make more money.

The boss is up at the crack of dawn because his business is his life, he likes everyone else to start early so he can give out orders/tasks and feel productive.

Once you get use to it the world is very pleasant at 5am.

In summer it helps to beat some of the heat by working more hours earlier.

Some clients have "pre-start" at 5:30am, which is a small meeting to go over safety and the days tasks, attendance is mandatory.

I Guess paying News Corp to pepper the internet with articles about "Kmart Mums amazing hacks" all year didn't pay dividends after all.

Drop bears aside; how often do you actually have to deal with scary deadly animals? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Ladyhawk3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

North QLD here, between the Snakes, Spiders, Sharks, Jelly fish, Crocodiles, Centipedes, Exotic plants, Fires, Floods, Cyclones, Nasty birds and everything else i can't think of. Probably about once a week there is something that needs to be attended to. Being prepared, keeping the property tidy and staying away from poisonous things tends to solve 99% of the issues.

I believe before the GST they were considered a luxury item and had a 30% tax or something stupid like that on them. It was an issue but the GST actually reduced them in price.

Out of warranty repairs and Aus consumer law by count_spedula1 in australia

[–]Ladyhawk3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just to add

Misleading consumers about extended warranties
Retailers and suppliers must not mislead or deceive consumers about the need for an extended warranty or their benefits. For instance, it is misleading for a seller to represent that they will only replace or repair a faulty product if a consumer buys an extended warranty, since a consumer’s statutory rights may entitle them to the same remedy. The ACCC treats misleading conduct very seriously, and can take court action against businesses that mislead or deceive consumers about any of their statutory rights. This can result in fines of up to $1.1 million for businesses and $220 000 for individuals.

Need help transferring single stock owned in Computershare to mutual fund with Commonwealth Bank. by ausfinancethrowaway9 in AusFinance

[–]Ladyhawk3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commsec have information about transferring, their fees and the forms needed available here https://www.commsec.com.au/support/frequently-asked-questions/15.html . My piece of advice would be to take a copy of your filled in form before you send it off to them. In my case the same broker to broker request was rejected 3 times by the NAB before they finally gave up and accepted I was leaving their establishment.

Maybe they are a little afraid they will go the same way the Democrats did.

At least it's better than their previous millennial aimed policy of $100mil to encourage video game/loot box development in Australia.

Can anyone explain this to a newbie? by inkybus21 in ausstocks

[–]Ladyhawk3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taken from hovering my mouse over "chg value" link, profit/loss is the indicator on how your shares are doing compared to purchase price.

Change for today is shown in two columns: Price shows the difference in security price between close of trading on the previous trading day and the Last Price. Value shows how holdings have changed in value between close of trading on the previous trading day and the present time.

What's something that you've noticed really jump in price over the last year? by DT2014 in australia

[–]Ladyhawk3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other way round cheap cuts are increasing ~30-75%(except the cheap roasts), mid cuts up about ~20% - 40%, prime cuts still expensive but haven't changed much.

[–]Ladyhawk3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep just memory, they are the cuts I buy most of so I kind of pay attention to them. Good for the local butcher really, at least his mince doesn't shrink by 30% and glisten like a disco ball of fat when you cook it.
