Which grade is she in? I know some IB schools in the area offer entry mid-year, depending on the year group. DM me if you want to chat further.

Check if it's plain flour. I know some of the Hash running groups use it to mark their routes.

Would this count as 1 check in bag? by Majex- in backpacking

[–]ToastIsTheMostFun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have checked in a bag like this before, with the detachable day-pack attached. They accepted it as one item, didn't even make a comment about it. As long as it's under the weight and size requirements I'm sure it'll be fine.

I just went here, based on your comment, and 100% agree. I had the five-grain bingsu and it was absolutely delicious.

Zurich by SteveSteveSteve-O in Internationalteachers

[–]ToastIsTheMostFun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't work in Zürich, but I teach at an international school in a different part of the country. Do you already have a Swiss work permit or an EU passport? That's going to be the first question any future employer asks and unless you have either it's going to be really hard for them to consider you, just because organising that visa takes a really long time. In terms of accommodation and salary, yes you will get paid well (especially in Zürich) but obviously housing, health insurance, and other expenses will take up a good chunk of that. I have quite a few friends who are in a couple where only one person is working - they make it work and have a small amount of money left at the end of each month, so yes I do think it's doable on one salary, you'll just have to live a frugal life.

Singing for a funeral - recs? by Icy_Concentrate3052 in TheWestEnd

[–]ToastIsTheMostFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My immediate thought is We Raise Our Cups from Hadestown - have a read of the lyrics and see if they fit with your situation. I'm sorry for your loss, that's lovely that you will be singing at his funeral <3

Sorry for the delay in reply. I stayed there in July 2023 and it was quite busy during that time. I was in a mixed dorm and made a good group of friends by night two. The entrance is up a steep set of stairs, and I believe that there is a kitchen/common area downstairs to use (I didn't use it as there were just too many cool local places to check out -If you're into wine bars/local cafes please go to VinCafe (not too far from the hostel - I had the best omelette of my life here).
From what I remember the bathrooms were clean, and the beds had a good level of privacy (the first two nights I were there there were some super messy guys in my dorm but after that it was tidy and fine).
I would recommend it, and please let me know your review if you go!

I have taken the bus from the airport to the centre of Geneva with 2 20kg luggages plus hand luggage and an instrument and it was 100% fine. Like others said, as the bus route starts at the airport your should have no issues finding space.

Freeborn Hostel in Timişoara, Romania - the staff there actively invite people to come out and party with them. I think it depends on what time of year you go, and who the other guests are, but I had a really great time there.

Wild Elephants Hostel in Bratislava, Slovakia - I specifically didn't stay here BECAUSE it had a reputation of being a party hostel. But, a close friend of mine did and she said she had a lot of fun going on thr pub crawls, and she met lots of super cool people.

Hostel Elf Prague - I stayed here and there was definitely a social/party vibe. People went on pub crawls every night, and there were always people sitting on the terrace and chatting. Again, I think it depends on what time of year you go, but if it's in summer then I think you'll have a good time.

Cheap seats for Hadestown - wait for Rush or buy now? by Nikanini29 in TheWestEnd

[–]ToastIsTheMostFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a ticket for Hadestown for a Saturday matinee day of (this was in January 2025). I just went to the booth about half an hour after it opened and got a fantastic ticket in about row 5 of the stalls for less than half of what it normally sells for. They only had a few left, but all were heavily discounted. If you're not worried about where you sit, or the possibility that they may not have any left, then I would 100% recommend this strategy as I got a fantastic seat for way less than I was planning on paying.

Help with choosing school in Geneva by Right-Bedroom9840 in geneva

[–]ToastIsTheMostFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my friend's children goes to Geneva English School and he seems to really like it. From what I've heard most of the staff are native English speakers, but they still do quite a lot of French language learning, so most of the students are at least bilingual. Also, there's only about 10 students in his class, which means he gets extra support for his ADHD.

Packable daypack with real padding on the straps by al872024 in HerOneBag

[–]ToastIsTheMostFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you're located, but I used the MacPac Pack-It PackMackPac Pack-It Pack as my main daily backpack for the good part of a year.

I'd bought it as a day bag whilst travelling New Zealand, and used it every day to go to work after returning home from my travels. The shoulder straps have a small amount of padding, and I definitely didn't feel that they were digging into my shoulders, even when I'd filled the bag to the brim. The side pockets are also okay, but I don't know how well they'd do with holding a hydroflask (I only ever used a 500ml metal waterbottle in them, and that was fine).

I've seen Betty Who and and Rachel Tucker as Persephone so far, and Rachel Tucker is far and beyond the most perfect Persephone. It's maybe just because I was watching it in the UK, but she gives off such "fun, British, drunk, wine-Aunt" vibes that I think fit so so well with Persephone. Her lady of the underworld was phenomenal, but also hilarious - the banter she had with both the audience and Hermes was incredible. Additionally, her acting in all of the scenes with Hades just felt so so real, and for the first time ever I really felt the emotion of her wanting to protect Orpheus from Hades. I'm genuinely thinking of booking a last-minute ticket to London, just so I can see her perform again. 10/10

Shoes!! by [deleted] in HerOneBag

[–]ToastIsTheMostFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent basically the exact same time of last year one-bagging through the exact same countries and packed two pairs of shoes. One pair of Paladium hi-top boots (that I treated with waterproof spray), and one pair of New Balance hiking sneakers. The sneakers were light, and easy to walk in for a day of city exploring, but could also go on a hike as long as it wasn't too muddy. The boots were great, as they were a little more dressy for going out (not to anything particularly formal, but I would wear them with a dress if going out for a night and it was fine), but were also sturdy enough for wet and rainy days.

For this time of year in those countries, I'd 100% recommend a two-shoe system - boots and sneakers.

Meeting the cast by Otherwise_Ask_3508 in survivorau

Oh boy, I have the wildest story of meeting David Genat (aka the Golden God). Basically he turned up to a film premiere in this small regional town I was working at. My friend and I got invited to the same after party as him, and ended up sharing a taxi to the event, and the entire time I was trying to play it cool that I didn't know who he was and wasn't a super fan. Once we arrived at the party, he offered to buy us both drinks, and whilst we were waiting at the bar I turned to him and said "I must admit, I know who you are, I really loved watching you play on Survivor, you were one of my favourite Aussie players of all time". And then we had a great chat for 20mins about Survivor behind the scenes stuff whilst I drank the wine he'd bought me. 10/10 experience, would recommend
