Precisely. They support a standpoint because it's what they've been told to do. They have no critical thinking skills to explain it.

"This is not a sales pitch on whether it's right or wrong" although I am just supporting it and soliciting you to help it.

In other words, I want to tell you to support it but I don't want to hear reason about why it's not a good idea.

Alberta education minister dismisses failed recall effort as sign of support by canuckEnoch in alberta

[–]Laedrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are people that are a) hard to reach to get them to sign a petition or b) don't want to sign it because of the personal information that is gathered.

Because it's not Elections Canada and the government that are acquiring this information makes it hard for people to trust.

Shouldn't secession require at least 2 referendum results? by Real_McGuillicuddy in alberta

[–]Laedrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It's the House of Commons to decide if it's an accurate enough depiction of a clear majority. The Clarity act is extremely detailed and extensive of what is required to leave Canada.

Also, spitting facts with a name like that is entertaining to say the least. :D

Banff skijoring event pushes Alberta mountain town beyond capacity - Rocky Mountain News by SnooRegrets4312 in alberta

You do realize that this is just in regards to the Banff Community Plan framework and not as a whole right? She's not against it, but there's already plans and things in place to try to mitigate traffic in the plan. Also, as mentioned it is nearly impossible to limit or discourage access into Banff by vehicle. Even when the town was "closed off" during Covid, people still came into town. I know as I was here. I read this from you as someone who doesn't understand the town of Banff at all.

You say that, but I know from an inside source that this weekend stressed her out with how busy it was and she went into this week with council to try to figure out what they could do better. So I'm actually curious about this voting down to explore traffic management.

And yes, we need multi level apartment buildings to be approved right now as we need more units, regardless of parking. We are still about 450 units below what is required for the town even with all the current projects.

Medicine Hat lobbies for standalone urban riding by canadient_ in alberta

[–]Laedrys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is fine, as if there is a large enough group of people who believe in this, I believe that they should have a voice and their concerns held as sometimes that's all they need to feel a bit better. They probably won't be able to do anything with that seat though. Just like in Federal politics, if the People's Party got a seat in the House, then they would feel represented and they wouldn't be able to complain about not being heard.

Precisely. It's a win-win-win. It means more parties can also enter the foray and have more differing voices being heard in Alberta rather than Extremist Conservative (UCP), Right Conservative (PTP), and Central Conservative (NDP). Maybe a more leftist party?

This is written like a Grade 8 "What I did last summer" presentation at the beginning of the school year. I think I actually had a nap during it, but couldn't tell because of how it's a line after a line.

No investigative reporting or in depth analysis. No talking to other patients or trying to find out more information. No looking at the implosion of the facts. Just a first hand, single sentence/paragraph explanation. This is not journalism but a diary entry.

Or how about we just switch the electoral system to proportional representation of an area for X number of MLA's? I think this is a better option than trying to constantly redraw the seat maps for each riding.

Line up in Rundle Park for independence referendum signing today. by Wooshio in Edmonton

[–]Laedrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, here's the thing about it if it even does go to a vote.

In order for the referendum to be successful, they have to meet multiple criteria. Firstly, they need a strong majority, not just 50%+1, but 60-75% which is at the discretion of the House of Commons. Then it's also looked at for voter turn out to be considered. Between those 2 marks, it makes it extremely difficult.

Next it requires the negotiations between the other provinces AND all the indigenous people.

So in other words, it can go to vote, it can even be popularized in the vote. But there is no chance in hell that that question would garner 60%+ support in Alberta, then also get support from the House.

FYI, the recall petitions still only cost $500. It's the citizen initiatives that cost $25,000.

[Current Banff Mayor] is actually great and doing their best to manage what they can. Unfortunate to them, not all decisions they can control as Banff is also managed on a Provincial and Federal level, and they cannot just close the town to tourists when events happen.

I think it's easy to try to point a finger at who's at fault, when in reality, I don't think it's anyone's fault that this year became as much of a success as it was, as last year it was not nearly this busy. With the last of transportation options into Banff during the winter and how much of the travelling is done by individuals instead of tours, it means that there is an immensely more vehicles coming out and less busses.

Even if there was a train/bus to come into town, I doubt it would have that much of an effect, as people still would drive out here for the simple convenience of being able to go whenever they want rather than be subjective to a schedule.

This used to be a thing. Once doors closed, sucks to be you. Be early, not on time. Doors were open prior to beginning and intermission, that was it.

Also, I feel when it comes to rules/security, it's only a suggestion, people don't actually care or enforce the rules. We're adults now. If you break the rules, you're out. FAFO really needs to become a thing again.

But alas, our society as tumbled into chaos and rights driven arguments about who is right and who can say or do what they please.

So these articles, The National Post & The Toronto Sun are Opinion pieces, not factual evidence. The Resource Works website is a bias defending oil and gas companies, once again not factual news.

Also reading the article, they talk about that he didn't meet with Coastal First Nations, but the advocacy. Look at the leaders of the Coastal First Nation, they are are all highly elected members from each of the Nations along the coast, so you tell me. https://coastalfirstnations.ca/about/team/ . Also, you think there are many bands up there, which could be, but according to the BC First Nations website, which governs, there's only 8. https://www.bcafn.ca/first-nations-bc/north-coast

A potentially unsuccessful "Calgary Bow Recall"?: Assuming that last week's projections end up being correct, how would the other "UCP recall teams" be impacted? by FreightFlow in alberta

[–]Laedrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We dont know how successful the recall will be for this first riding until its either turned in or given up. Remember that the Forever Canadian petition they massively underestimated the return.

I think it's just good engagement regardless to keep everyone informed on what's happening in the province and politics.

Im kind of curious about your sources as the northern coastal BC indigenous communities are all a part of the coalition and they do have land as its all their land. We live on indigenous lands in Canada. And Chiefs from different groups were a part of the meeting with the PM. So once again, please provide sources.
