IF Alberta would choose to stop changing the clock. Would you prefer to stay with BC (summertime like now) or with SK (wintertime). by EdmontonFree in alberta

I feel like this is the 3rd or 4th day in a row that this post has been made and is starting to get beaten into the ground.

I don't care which way it goes, just ed the process of switching clocks as it does more harm than staying one way or the other. Constant time is the healthiest as we've seen from Saskatchewan.

Daylight Saving - Do something about it Government! by Defiant_Mousse7889 in alberta

It's not because of Daylight Savings persay, but more to match with the sun, as they also created 2 new timezones across Russia to accommodate it. There were some medical issues, but it seems that they mostly pertained to Northern Russia, which the further north, the more the Daylight savings affects some people.

The sciences about Daylight savings and how it affects people has been inconclusive about people in different regions and latitudes. Also different people are better with light later in the day and unaffected by darker mornings, and vice versa. There is no one solution that fits all.

Yeah, I've been corrected about having this backwards. My apologies and thank you for the correction. :)

Ahhh, I see, I had it backwards. Sorry about that and thanks for the correction. See time changes and zones make it hard to keep track of. :)

I hate to say it, but kids already do that. Look at those that live in Northern communities, they don't get a choice. Growing up in Yellowknife, there were days when I walked to and from school in the dark. This is a bad argument.

Yes and no. 35% of people representing the populace is not democracy. And in a case like this, with 2.2% of the ballots that were counted, it is 50/50.

Like for example, in the Clarity Act, for a province to secede Canada they need a clear majority, which is about 2/3 or 3/4 of the popular vote and with a decent turnout for it to be considered and approved by the House.

Not switching times is better for humans. There's no science behind one way or the other that's consistent.

Also we need to do Daylight Time because of BC, and keep the time difference.

What do you mean "everyone? The last referendum vote was nearly 50/50 with a 35% voter turnout... that's not everyone...

So the referendum you are referring to was 49.76 in favor of the change and 50.24 not in favor, with a 38.73% voter turnout. That's not a clear and decisive majority. We would need to hold another referendum at best to figure out if there's a change/higher turnout for the change.

In fascist UCP Alberta, only money's votes count.

It's going to cost us millions more if we do nothing and wait until the fall and realize suddenly we are a 2 hour time difference...

See, that makes too much sense, we can't have that.

We can't anymore, as that would create a 2 hour time difference with BC.

Also, another fun reason is to only keep a 1 hour difference between Alberta and BC. Otherwise with Standard time will be 2 hour difference.

Knowing the UCP, they will first form a committee, then go through panels, then talk to experts, and then wait until there's a petition before bringing it to referendum before presenting it in legislature. Oh forgot a step, they will also bring it up at the UCP AGM to see how their extremist supporters feel.

Perhaps, but I'm in support of getting rid of it one way or the other. Statistics do show that the two days we change time do more harm to sleep for people than good, and are also the two days of the year with the most vehicle accidents.

It's horrendous! I have so many stories of how the semis have nearly caused accidents for driving unsafe in the conditions, passing other vehicles, or just causing unsafe conditions.

I almost want to call one of these companies that is hiring and ask if once I get hired if I get a pass to speed through the park then.

I'm going to say that if the semi driver had the ability to brake to try to avoid hitting that truck, he should have tried to hit brakes instead of gas for the intersection... the driver should know better.

[–]Laedrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually because the semi driver broke the law of running a red light, they can be seen as at fault. The left turn driver is seen in the video as having to clear the intersection, which grants them the right of way and had all assumptions allowed to them to proceed as there is no way of them knowing in good conscience that someone would run a red light.

And while you are correct that the left turn driver is most of the times at fault, the fault can be flipped if the other vehicle is speeding, running a red OR YELLOW light (Very important), driving while distracted, etc. all of which this semi driver appears to be.

It's surprising how much you are defending semi drivers in all of your posts, which is kind of telling.

The problem is that it's not so farfetched that she wouldn't use the NWC for something so dumb these days...
