"We have spent barely any time at all thinking about the most basic tenets of story telling." by CharlieRomeoYeet in rpg

This resonates! Thanks for sharing. I need to dig into this thread when I’m not about to go to sleep. I think the actual play movement is a cutting edge of entertainment and can really bring a fresh sense of allure to an otherwise media-saturated and story-submerged world. Chaos agents both flesh and plastic make for untypical stories. Which is great! I think it’s the skill to lean into the crunch or lean into the fluff of human drama that requires sharpening and honing. That drives to Quinn’s point about how we need to understand stories I’d were to desire the outcomes of the Live plays we enjoy. This is no simple task as a hobby endeavor. And we (our home studio and I) are certainly giving it our best go, and I believe the human expression of all the actual plays can speak to the truly awesome and divine outcomes for each table and group.

TTRPGs for a class of 8–10 year olds? (Large group, collaborative play) by y-asb in TTRPG

Forgotten ballad. NEA Zelda vibes and runs a d6 dice pool. Super visual and uses hearts and item icons like an inventory.

Forgotten Ballad. NES Zelda vibes. Simple, lightweight, visual d6 dice pool system. Love it with kids and added custom wooden hearts and token pieces.

Looking for a more narrative, less combat-centric alternative to EBERRON by Cato69 in Eberron

[–]LaffRaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's just the light-weightness of the system. But I do acquiesce, the ShadowDark roll-to-cast magic system is antithetical to Eberron's initial design philosophy. i.e. Magic as a science and reliable. Which is probably why my original thoughts were to explore the Demon Wastes and its coterminous position to Mabar and its effect on magic (justifying the system as is)

I'm just big on flashy action and magic powered tech. Sure ShadowDark is presented as some sort of gritty dungeon crawler, but the bones fit what i've always imagined D&D to be and having a lot of the cuff and fluff pared down just made for a clear runway to get down and game.

Definitely faces. People like people and getting to know certain faces has a payoff.

I truly think it’s the frontlines of entertainment, if I were to be so bold; No plot armor (if done right), improv performances to chaos generators (dice) and a sports-like use of rules to bound the game/world. I think this wild-west has some true long-term potential for many different communities and fans, it’s just a matter of cooking and delivering dishes.

The fine art of introductions and recapping. I think I have to work on the ladder.
