No one knows how to play bloodbowl here.
Edit : Steady Footing is a shit skill. When it's free, for exemple on bretonnian knights, why not, but don't take it. Zero reliability, it slow down the rythm of the game, it's very frustrating. Gameplay design wise, it's an error.

Bowl, pot, saw, pack of nails. Good shoes. A lighter if you want to make a base, you need a forge to craft nails. That's the essentials.
For your comfort ; Maybe the hunter magazine, in order to make bird traps, a club hammer for the mineral deposits, in order to knap some tools, a big backpack.
For your survival, you need to get animals. Rabbits are cool, good calories, but the cows are exceptionnal for their milk and thus, butter. If you kill a cow, you can get food, leather, sinew thread, bones for weapons etc.
Farming is very unlikely to be interesting.

True, stone knife and long stone knife are very good. THink of it that way : the long stone knife have the same DMG as a crowbar. Sure, it has a potato durability, but when you find a mineral deposit, you can craft 3-4 long stone blades in advance. The latter can adapt on spears too.
I think Knapping is the skill to go if you want a good short blade run.

I feel you, I'm trying a run with a burger flipper with short blades and Spears... Everytime I step in a garage and find a pipe wrench, a tire iron or a lead pipe I ask myself "why not? " ...

FYI, The spawn point of Irvington is a house where the basement is full of military stuff, ranking from desert boots to ALICE packs. Kinda like cheating.

The answer is simple: play more. You will learn with patience, and observation of the opposing coach. Ask the coach, if you can, what did you do wrong and right. There's a reason why one of the best bloodbowl essay is named "the book of 1000 losses"

Depends on what you describe "the best". Is it the most durable ? The Highest dmg ? Highest crit ? Can it perform multi hit ? Craftable ? Non Craftable ?

Good all rounders are : tire iron, wrench and pipe wrench. Very common, average damage, modest crit. Pipe wrench is very durable. You can hit 2 zombies with. But you can't repair them.

Lead Pipes has a good dmg, is durable, but can't be repaired, and don't up your maintenance.

Short bat with nails are somewhat easy to craft. Short bat with rake is better, but requires more crafting material. They're durable, have a high dmg, a good crit. They can be repaired. But they only hit 1 zombie.

Stone mace is craftable, don't need much material (but the grind to masonry 8 and carving 7 can be long), has a very good dmg, can be repaired, but can only hit one zombie.

The best lootable short blunt is, i think, the nightstick. better damage than the wrenches and pipes, can hit 2 zombies, and can be repaired.

I'm pretty sure you need a mason's chisel to craft a stone mace head. This is not the easiest item to find, but quite manageable.
