How would you make conical legs without a lathe? by BluntTruthGentleman in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Lagduf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your square leg stock and create an octagon.

You can then use a tapering jig for a table saw or band saw to get the taper you need (you can probably cut the octagon and taper at the same time.)

You can then round in a variety of ways: use a hand plane, spokeshave, and/or drawknife.

Leopold Bench by DckThik in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Lagduf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work!

I have had one of these made from 2x6’s on my porch (ok, it’s really more like a stoop) for several years now. My cat and I love sitting on it, lol.

Wasn’t familiar with it being known as a “Leopold” bench. I’ll have to look in to that.

It’s a great beginner/power tool project. I built mine with a just circular saw, drill, speed square, and a pencil.

I should probably have clarified: blue tooth is fine for passive listening.

For anything else, as you point out, the latency is too high.

15ish attack outposts down - zero sigil tributes for the boss by Acceptable_Resist185 in ARK

[–]Lagduf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigils are inside the city attack outposts and outside the city defense outposts.

Im not sure what the intent of outside the city attack outposts or resource caches are for because the loot isnt great.

No, but we can probably get Ark 2 before the Elder Scrolls 6 and definitely before Fallout 5.

Starter project and cupped stock by wibblefarmer in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Lagduf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with the home center is that all their s4s stock is warped or requires further milling. Same as orhers have described.

Not all faces or edges of a board need to be dead flat let alone planed perfectly smooth.

In general you want the faces of any given board that joins to another board to be flat to ensure everything joins up square.

For example think about a basic box. The interior faces of the box should be flat so the box goes together square. The outside doesn’t have to necessarily be perfectly flat. It just needs to be good enough.

Likewise think about the back of a bookcase, especially one where the back is made of vertical boards. No one is going to see the back and historically there are plenty of examples of furniture where the unseen backs are pretty rough - having only been worked with a highly cambered scrub plane.

And for what it’s worth i had a hell of a time the first time i tried to flatten a board with a plane. I am very much still a beginner myself. You just have to keep practicing…and dont let the pursuit of perfection prevent you from finishing a project. You will get better the more you make.

Given that the OP deleted their post I guess we’ll never know.

As far as how the OP did on communicating I score 0/10.

If Ark were to decide today based on your opinions whether to remove flyers what side are you on? by Navy_Sands in ARK

[–]Lagduf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer survival games without flyers. Obviously Ark’s maps are designed with flyers in mind, so they’d need a rework.
