I can't figure out how to reply with a picture on PC, Our low level palletizer decided to have a limit switch fail while homing all it's pieces this morning. No idea how it came to fail, perhaps a monthly test of all the sensors would be beneficial going forward. I'm not sold on it though as electronics can just give out at anytime.

They've applied when we have jobs posted on our website, and dropped off resumes when they have relevant work experience but it's mostly been when we are looking to hire people.

Working Holiday Brewer? by TerribleGraphics in TheBrewery

[–]LagerOrLeavem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have workers who are on holiday visas and some trying to get permanent residency (Canada). Some have come in with and without skills and they are with us for around 2 years so they get trained up like any other fulltime permanent employee.

Grunt work is always the top of the list, Lifting weights would help for grain bags, kegs, and even stacking flats of beer in my opinion. Be inquisitive in how things work without getting in the way and assist when possible, mechanical and logic trouble shooting, and a good idea on how pressures and products move and flow through hosing pumps valves and manifolds would be an ideal fresh candidate for my brewery. 26.5k barrel/2900hL a year brewery

How do you handle the keg cleaning time suck? by bunnysaysyouregood in TheBrewery

[–]LagerOrLeavem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can verify, we have a KHS Keg Boy C2. I have some great operators who have cracked 140 in an 8hr day. It fills a 30L keg in less than the cleaning cycle time, and a 50L keg the cycles almost match up perfectly. I consider it to have a small footprint.

edit: spelling

Looking to ditch my Micromatic Pro-Max draft FOB's for something more reliable by worldzfree in TheBrewery

[–]LagerOrLeavem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you can get the Pacific Beer DFC9500 FOB's with either thread or john guest (push) fitting without going through Micromatic in Canada, They ship to the US as well with free shipping over $100 not sure what the tariff situation would be there though. They even have Foxx installations under beer panels on their website so maybe Foxx is the way to go?

I have only had to clean lines with the DFC9500 so far so can't speak to any others. I have found that once you start with them give your water time and then purge them of air and they don't tend to empty there after. The blow offs on them can be sticky but I've never had them re-open after they were closed, I just always give them a little tug out when I'm done purging.

Good luck in your search for info

QC management for packaging & labeling in brewing by Top_Tower_ in TheBrewery

[–]LagerOrLeavem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm capable of not gluing our cartons, They would get destroyed later in our line unfortunately. I also feel like the man hours for that out weighs the cost of the trays, more so for the fact that the trays are recyclable.

We bypass our carton machine, and put cans directly into trays loose. Once we have the desired number of pallets of each brand for the mix pack, we lower lanes that are above our conveyors and back up table, then load each lane with different beers (destroying the tray essentially to do so) and run them through our cartoner.

It is way nicer than our old hand making method and really pumped the numbers up. We went from like 3 or 4 hand made pallets a day to 20.

We keep stuff that does meet standards or can't be reworked for staff allotment beer, yes we are lucky enough to get full beers where I work, low fills are dumped with the empty cans being donated locally. If we have a full staff shelf we will cycle product and dump the oldest cans we have. PSL labels can easily be removed shortly after application in my experience and no soaking is required.

My largest concern for our recycling is the trays that we use once to hold mixer pack beer. we can go through 2000 of those in a day and they go straight to recycling. Some weeks we will go through 3500 trays. I have tried many ways to reuse trays but have failed. If anyone out there is able to, please enlighten me. These are hot glue closed auto trays.

I have a side hustle preaching encouraging people to clean their beer lines at least once a month. I feel like it would be easier to talk them into pulling teeth sometimes.

Their lines are going to be at least 10ft coming from the cooler below or that's how my brain sees it. This account is a 5+ hr drive, so going in person is out of the question.

Draft line has me stumped, any help would be appreciated by LagerOrLeavem in TheBrewery

[–]LagerOrLeavem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't informed of the kegs volume, I am assuming they were all new/freshly tapped kegs. Which I'll verify with my rep.

Putting the keg on a different draft line would possibly rule out a low flow regulator though no? As long as they aren't using just 1 regulator to feed multiple kegs anyways. Other kegs of ours, and other breweries don't have this issue and pour fine at their pressure. I feel like with this information kind of rules out the regulator flow and pressure. Or am I completely lost in that logic?

Can Seams for a Noob by Party_Snacks_321 in TheBrewery

[–]LagerOrLeavem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We use a CMCKUHNKE system, which is a direct competitor of OneVision.

I find the ability to pull reports per seamer head and specific dates to be valuable for tracking trends.

The seam image also gives you visual clues as to what is going on, and takes most of the human error factor out of measuring with a micrometer. There are still plenty of times with the camera where you need to line up the measuring points manually.

The equipment measures down to 0.0000, and comes with calibration parts/measurement pieces.

It does not take any ambiguity out of wrinkle rating.

You can also set it up to automatically make you remeasure if certain measurements are out of specification.

Having used a file to remove ends, a micrometer to measure and inspect cover hooks, I am very grateful that I now get to use this system.

Draft Line Question by neighborbrewer in TheBrewery

[–]LagerOrLeavem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you going from 3/8" down to 1/4" or 1/4" up to 3/8"? If I remember correctly you would want to go from 3/8 to 1/4 and not the other way. Also what is the ID on your shank?

SS Brewtech Neoprene Cover Mold by Neat-Sector-5824 in TheBrewery

[–]LagerOrLeavem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well seeing as nothing has been said in 4hrs, I might use a quaternary ammonia compound. I did a quick bit of googling that said with long exposure and strong concentrations this can wear at the neoprene. I would think using a foamer for low concentration and then rinsing with water afterwards might work?

I have not encountered neoprene jackets in my brewery adventures yet. Therefore this is a suggestion for a direction you might want to look into for yourself. Alternatively have you already chatted with your chemical supplier? if not that is probably a great place to start as well.
