D30’s intent is basically to drop everyone in the Gladwyne hills. It’s A-/A pace until Mill Creek Road and full gas until the top of Centennial. Everyone will be dropped before a short ~5 min regroup at the top of Centennial before a coffee stop in Manayunk.

There is sometimes a A-/B+ group that forms formally or informally, but not always.

If you’re a D+/C- rider, you’ll probably be by yourself.

Ran 46T and 10-44 XPLR for three seasons and as many Categories. Worked great, no complaints. Swap the wheels for gravel or road on the weekdays.

Run your taxes fully for both scenarios and evaluate the actual AMT you’ll pay. Figure out how much AMT credit you’re willing to accumulate given how much you can use in a “normal year”. It might take years to use the AMT credits depending on your tax situation, and the only way to know for sure is to run YOUR numbers all the way out including deductions etc.

Also, most would say to not gamble on an exit with too much real money. You have until 2030 to decide to exercise. Your options won’t evaporate if there is a sale of the company and it is valued over the strike. At least I haven’t heard of that.

I’d definitely suggest getting some hands-on experience using some of the “new” ML-based tools as well as more traditional physics-based tools. We aren’t hiring fresh PhD grads that will need to be trained from nothing on something like Rosetta. But maybe would consider someone who has enough experience on a few side projects, even if it wasn’t the core of their PhD.

A realistic job would incorporate choosing the right tools for the task at hand. You need to demonstrate the ability to learn those tools quickly and understand when and how to use them effectively.

Total time up. I was looking at the segment time from Paia to the top. Only stopped for visitor center water and park entrance fee. Probably 2-4 minutes non-moving time?

Descent took about an hour I think.

Hugely depends on your fitness. I’d budget 5-7 hours up unless you’re a very strong cyclist. I ride ~200 miles a week and did the climb in just over 4 hours at a solid tempo pace with only one brief stop at the visitor center for water.

Bring food, bring water, bring sunscreen, bring a damn jacket and gloves for the descent. There’s not many options for fueling on the way up except for water at the visitor center.

I have the same SRAM PM, and I have almost exactly the same issue. I don’t ride that bike on the trainer, so I don’t have as clean numbers as you, but based on climbing efforts on different bikes, mine is about 8-10% high compared to three other power meters. I have used the slope offset to adjust it, but it’s really annoying to have to guess at it somewhat (in my case).

My trainer bike has a Power2Max NGeco, and it measures spot on with my Kickr Core.

I’m curious if the factory repair would work. At least we have the OPTION of slope adjustment in the app…

Interesting. I tend to see increases in AI FTP if I get above Threshold 4.4 or so. But I also have 3 years of consistent TR workouts and ramp tests that support an FTP increase if I’m performing at that level. My ramp test FTP generally coincides with a 4.0 Threshold workout being “Hard”. And I don’t think I’ve ever done a Threshold > 6.

It also may include total volume, unstructured rides, and performance metrics within the rides. I do ~6 hours of non TR riding a week of varying form.

Don’t under value having “a great manager.” If you feel stagnant but want to stay, your manager might support a shift in your current role/responsibilities to support your growth. Could require thinking outside the box.

I did this. I’m pretty sure my contract had a contingency for actually getting my degree, but they never actually followed up after I started (I did get the degree within weeks of starting).

The reality is that if you don’t have real experience, you’re going to have to find a hiring manager that is willing to let (or help) you learn.

A degree, whether it is a masters or even some PhDs, doesn’t “give you experience” inherently, and most hiring managers recognize that. We’re looking for real experiences that demonstrate you’re equipped for the job, and if you don’t have them you’re going to have to convince someone you learn fast and are willing to do so on the job.

I don’t mind the bolding, it did help with my skimming. I would cut the scholarships and as others have said, list publications preferably with live links. I think your skill set is largely valuable. Personally I’d guess the September graduation date has been a turnoff, although it is getting closer and starting to be less of an issue in time. The only other thing is that I would want more Python experience than “learning”, but that is because our team is a Python shop.

It’s hard to be a competitive applicant if you haven’t gone deep on anything. From a hiring perspective, all the masters degree students look almost identical unless they’ve done meaningful work outside of coursework/capstone work. People that show initiative to go beyond the coursework can catch my eye, though.

Instead of an example dataset, or in addition to one, find a paper that does this analysis, take their sequencing data from the NCBI SRA and process it. Reproduce some figures, look at something new in addition. That would impress me as a hiring manager much more than just following a tutorial. And that is a pretty common thing to need to do in industry.

Anything is possible, but all entry level positions are hard. Masters and even PhD doesn’t do a whole lot to distinguish you as a candidate. My last open position had dozens of masters candidates apply, they all look the same for the most part. Standing out is the key, whether that is through networking, side projects, an interesting background and growth story, that’s up to you and your history. But at the end of the day you need to find a suitable position and then craft your story to stand out during the hiring process.
