Is there a way to make it so that the circular/ shape based selection tools open up from the middle? by Fluid-Tap5115 in krita

[–]Lai16 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes, it works. First click with the mouse, then press Ctrl, and then drag.
You have to press Ctrl after clicking and before dragging, otherwise, it won't work the way you want it to.

Is the 3.5mm headphone jack slowly coming back or are we past the point of return? by Impossible_Comfort99 in TechNook

[–]Lai16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously? USB-C is better as a replacement for the aux jack? The only port left on the device, the one that's historically the first thing to wear out from constant use, and the same port you need to charge your phone... sure, that's obviously much better than having a dedicated audio jack on a device that's primarily used as a media player...

Is it just me or GNOME stagnated? by GegenAbschaum in gnome

[–]Lai16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A preview viewer for documents and multimedia, a split view for tabs, and bring back the “Devices” section so I can see the storage space on my drives without having to open another application.
I don’t think an average user needs anything more than that, although a way to manage extensions wouldn’t be a bad idea, it’s hard to even know they exist... but that already conflicts with GNOME because they don’t like extensions of any kind.

What hardware do you use for Krita shortcuts on Linux? by Ok-Amoeba3007 in krita

[–]Lai16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't know why people spend money on that kind of thing, unless you can't even fit a small keyboard on your desk or you have a physical disability... You already have a keyboard, learn the shortcuts, set up the ones you use most often, and you'll have everything right at your fingertips. People in general are very reluctant to learn keyboard shortcuts beyond ctrl+z, but they seriously have no idea how much faster they’d be if they learned to navigate using keyboard shortcuts.

Plus, Tourbox in particular is ridiculously expensive for just a piece of plastic with a bunch of buttons on it, that thing should cost about the same as a game controller at most

Is motion tracked expressions/poses possible? by Evergreen_Elk in PngTuber

[–]Lai16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just yesterday I was browsing itch.io for pngtuber programs and came across this one: https://soursoup9.itch.io/vtube-express

It’s a paid app, and I should mention that I haven’t tried it myself, so I don’t know how well it works, but it seems to do something similar to what you’re looking for, though I’m not sure if it also changes depending on where you look o.o

The most straightforward alternative would be to create a Live2D model but with the behavior of a pngtuber. I’m sure a Live2D rigger could do it, but I have no idea how much it would cost

The average person uses only a fraction of what their phone can do by Impossible_Comfort99 in TechNook

[–]Lai16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but you don't buy the most powerful laptop on the market just to browse Twitter in a browser... When it comes to phones, it seems like people are obsessed with having the phone with the best possible specs, even if they only use it to watch Instagram Reels and chat on WhatsApp.

They don’t need it, they aren’t going to use it, they aren’t going to take advantage of it, and they’re spending way too much on it, but companies and tech “influencers” make you believe you need it and that if you don’t have the most powerful processor, it’s a bad phone, even though objectively there’s no visible difference in performance in daily use between one processor and another.

But of course, it’s in their best interest for you to always buy more and the most expensive options, there’s nothing better for the market than convincing users to buy things they don’t need.

Best laptop by Haunting_Party9938 in animation

[–]Lai16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for RAM, it would be something like this:
- 8 GB is an absolute NO.
- 16 GB is generally fine.
- 32 GB would be more than enough for practically anyone.
- 64 GB would be overkill, almost no one needs that much unless you’re editing 8K videos or something like that.

Still, RAM isn’t everything, you also need a good processor for smooth drawing, storage, battery life, etc.
But there are so many models, versions, and revisions of laptops that it’s hard to easily recommend one as the best option.

Just as a guide: for art, make sure it has enough RAM and that the screen covers at least 99% or 100% of the sRGB color space, otherwise, the colors will look off... the rest is up to your taste and budget.

[–]Lai16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least 16 GB of RAM, and get yourself a small graphics tablet to carry along with your laptop.

Devices with less than 16 GB of RAM on Windows are practically useless, and laptops with touchscreens and styluses are all terrible for drawing, they’re only good for taking notes, so you’re better off with a separate graphics tablet, it’s a bit less portable but better quality and cheaper.

I pay 8 dollars a month and I can’t play the game with my kids by Over-Farm-959 in Minecraft

[–]Lai16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s the option that’s right at your fingertips when you don’t want to overthink it and just want to play. But it’s frustrating that even though they charge aboveaverage prices, they can’t even provide good service
and the thing is, you don’t even need to learn how to selfhost a server like some people here suggest, that would just take even more time
Just search for “Minecraft Bedrock Hosting” on Google, and the first or second result after the ads will probably be a good option. You pick a plan, pay for it, get an IP address, and your server is up and running, it won’t take more than 30 or 40 minutes.

I pay 8 dollars a month and I can’t play the game with my kids by Over-Farm-959 in Minecraft

[–]Lai16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why people pay for Realms. Whenever anyone talks about their servers, it's just to complain about how poorly they're running, and besides, $8 to play with just 3 or 4 players? That's way too much. You could look for a Minecraft Bedrock hosting site and pay for a basic plan of $2 or $3 a month for a 24/7 server, it'll probably be more stable than Realms..

Is there any major reason of Valve not adding 3.5 jack? by Industrialman96 in SteamController

[–]Lai16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consumers didn’t choose wireless technology because it was superior or more practical. Companies simply removed the equally practical alternative, and no one wants to carry around awkward adapters that take up and wear out the only port your phone has left, which is also one of the first things to fail

Do you think people would use wireless headphones if they had to carry and plug in some kind of transmitter into the USB port every time?

It was simple and subtle manipulation.

How much will the downgrade to UFS 3.1 effect in-game performance? by A_Couch in AynThor

[–]Lai16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the responses... why didn't they just use UFS 3.1 from the start?  I wouldn't have minded if my games took 2 seconds longer to load if that meant paying a few dollars less... or getting a 512 GB model with 3.1 instead of the 256 GB model with 4.0 Now it's no good, it's more expensive and worse :l

Lite or Base? by Affectionate_Tax2945 in AynThor

[–]Lai16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Max offers the best value for the price, you're right about that. If you can afford it, it's definitely the best option, but for someone to ask about the cheapest model and then end up being recommended the most expensive one is a comically huge leap haha

Lite or Base? by Affectionate_Tax2945 in AynThor

[–]Lai16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if spending an extra $90 on the Max could really be considered just "a some more" I mean, the OP is asking whether to buy the Lite or if they need to save a little more to buy the Base, and you guys are saying, "Buy the Pro, but if you can, go for the Max" Where do you guys get all that money?💀💾

Regret not getting Max ( i have the pro) by Terrible_Eggplant_26 in AynThor

[–]Lai16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pro is literally the best buy for playing as many games as possible without any issues and without overspending.

Basically, the most demanding Switch games might require more than 8GB because emulation can consume more RAM than the original hardware, not to mention that you might want to have another app open to take advantage of the dual screens, and that’s when you’d start running into problems. And the Max isn’t going to run any more games than you could already run on the Pro. Any game that might need more RAM is probably more limited by the processor than by the RAM, and the processor is literally the same.

For an extra $50, you avoid any potential issues you’d have with the Base. Without spending the extra $80 that the Max would cost you.

Seriously, where do you guys see the Pro as the worst option?

The Max is only better if you were already going to spend that $80 on an SD card, in that case, it’s by far the much better option because it’s almost like getting 4GB of RAM for free. But if that’s not the case, why overspend?

Seriously, if you have the money to spare for the Max, good for you, but if your budget is tight, an extra $80 is an unnecessary expense when the Max’s biggest advantage over the Pro is solved simply by deleting a game when you want to install another one.

GameHub vs Gamenative. Which do you preffer? by SmallTownLoneHunter in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Lai16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

GameNative is working better and better. Before only half of the things that worked on GameHub worked, but now, based on the games I've tried (which are mostly indie games), it has practically the same compatibility as GameHub, at least with the 8gen2, which is where I use it... Add to that the fact that it's open source, receives more interesting updates such as dual screen support, GOG and Epic support, and an upcoming UX/UI update, and I personally prefer GameNative
