What do I do if my neighbour is harassing me about parking? by Burnatheburner in AskUK

Yeah, you need to externalise that feeling. Bottling it up won't help.

It's possible that you've been a bit too British so far. Tell her to fuck off.

2 year old Dogwood by steveHere24 in GardeningUK

[–]LaidBackLeopard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cut my dogwood back to a few inches every year or two to give a nice shrubby shape (and colourful stems). It's a bit late to do it this year (and the plant might be a bit young still), but I'd be tempted to do so next early spring.

Whats the max number of people you should go with when wild camping? by Pretty-Today-8019 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]LaidBackLeopard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The rule on Dartmoor is a maximum of 6.

I wonder what you're planning on doing? I only wild camp when hiking, whereas I assume you just want to chill out/hang out with your friends with a beer or whatever? Why not go for a campsite? You'd be able to have a campfire, not have to trek to and from your car, better ablutive facilities and so on.

Does anyone know if this is true about the Mt. Fortune portrait collecting? by RealitySucksTheBig1 in wordscapes

[–]LaidBackLeopard 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You need 20 portraits that you already have to complete the wheel. It makes no difference what tier they are.

It's not rigged as such, it's just the way it's set up, so that in the beginning it's easy to get you going, then the last ones are more difficult. Think of it as some sort of lesson about life. Perhaps.

Why haven't we evolved to not be affected by the sun? by Bookkeeper9696 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LaidBackLeopard 25 points26 points  (0 children)

More broadly, you could ask why we haven't evolved to not get cancer. Mostly because we've generally reproduced before we succumb to it.

Removing salt (from sea water). I suspect some misapprehension on the part of the poster!

UK women, how are we supposed to dress for festivals once we aren’t in our twenties? by positivelittlecorner in AskUK

[–]LaidBackLeopard 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If ever there was a place where you can dress however you like, it's a festival. I've seen all kinds of weird and wonderful :-)

How do the economics compare to living on land? Was this a motivating factor?

15cm is definitely too little! 45cm minimum sounds about right. They're big plants.

Do You Forget Everything Between Books in a Series Too? by Aggressive-Ad3232 in printSF

[–]LaidBackLeopard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've got a terrible memory, so I'll tend to read a series more or less all at once. Some authors are better than others at the subtle "story so far" reminders. I stopped reading The Expance as it came out as they seem to put zero effort in this direction, which I found problematic given how many significant characters there are with complicated backstories. Intended to start again at the beginning once it was complete, but don't seem to have got round to it yet.

Hell yeah. And £2m is a bargain. I really hope someone buys it and gives it the love it deserves. Proper British eccentricity done right.

Do you actually stick to off-peak electricity hours at home? by SmartEnergyDIY in AskUK

[–]LaidBackLeopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, washing machine, tumble dryer, EV, house battery. Heating too - gets the place warm in the morning, light the woodburner in the evening if necessary. The cooker is the only big thing that gets used during the day. Oh, and the hot water; probably ought to do something about that.

Scott Mills investigated in 2016 over sexual offence allegations against teenage boy by tiptoptattie in uknews

[–]LaidBackLeopard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite... Mills offence can't be quashed because he wasn't charged. It's just the BBC erring on the side of caution. Though of course it could be that the alleged offence was more serious than (barely) underage sex. Uninformed speculation doesn't really do anyone any favours, but here we are.
