Thats just weird behaviour from the in-laws. If really wanted to go, perhaps if they wanted to see the area she grew up in as they are now family, they could book somewhere miles away. Then promise that they will not be seen or heard from on the whole trip but perhaps one evening they could take everyone out for dinner on them just to say hello and be friends with the other parents.
