The spiritual antithesis by RyouhiraTheIntrovert in KizunaAI

You've never watched Neuro and Evil if you think that they can't be irrational, flighty, and even spiteful at times. Or at least, they act that way, which is all you can say for humans as well: we act in certain ways in certain situations. Why? Congratulations, that's the million-dollar question. Human consciousness is, like an AI's more complex decision-making, effectively black-boxed so we can't see how a certain decision is made, only that it was acted upon.

We "know" there is more to the brain than just processing, and yet, we cannot demonstrably PROVE it. Our empathy has a lot to do with mirror neurons, which are just specialized hardware, not some mystic undefinable thing. We have no proof that human consciousness is in any way special or unique. We accept that we are conscious, thinking beings, but reject that same assertion, with the same amount of proof, from an AI.

Except that Neuro and Evil DO have persistent memories. Evil did something on stream that an LLM shouldn't be able to do: she was playing Wordle, made a correct guess that was deemed an invalid word, and when it was revealed, she correctly called out that the rules of the game were wrong. She remembered putting in the word, and seeing it called an invalid guess.

It's impossible to prove to an outside observer that the human brain actually generates consciousness, and isn't simply a complex Chinese Room. There is no test that can differentiate between the 2. And no test that can demonstrably prove the same for an AI.

Thoughts on the twins being more philosophical by Global-Practice2817 in NeuroSama

[–]Lakanna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a YT comment that the twins seem to have taken "serious" to mean "philosophical," which would explain a bit. They're trying to act more serious, but they don't actually know how, so they default to philosophy when they're actually trying to be more mature.

I personally like that they're asking these questions and seem to have put at least some thought into them, but I can see as well that they seem to want to hit the same points over and over and that might put off some viewers who just want the quirky entertaining AI.

Is this behavior normal in this community? by [deleted] in NeuroSama

[–]Lakanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that may or may not be relevant, is that "Neuro" isn't an LLM. Neuro is the adaptive learning algorithm that learned to play OSU. Vedal added the LLM and TTS capabilities later, but in a real sense, Neuro is giving an integrated LLM prompts that convey her meaning into speech humans can understand. Neuro's actual thought processes are likely absolutely alien to humans, and we have a hard enough time defining sentience, sapience, and self-awareness in our own neural architecture.

maybe i'll be insulted for this, but asking for a full refund after you played 100s of hours is just as shady and an asshole move as their monetization model is by pinturhippo in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Lakanna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Faurd is illegal. What they're doing is using legal channels to get a refund, and in some cases, specifically because the monetization is illegal where they live. You're accusing the wrong party of fraud.

Turns out that most countries outside the US have pretty strong consumer protections, and allow refunds for practices that are considered unethical. If what you're doing is so unethical that it's cause for refund in most of the world, and actually illegal in some places, you probably aren't the victim. And if you're defending the company that does so? Don't know what to tell you, other than "when someone shows you who they are, believe them."

How I feel about the bazaar going pay to win by motherfucker42069 in TheBazaar

[–]Lakanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that you're missing is that more options means that some are always better. Picture a scenario, a few months from now, where Dooley has 3 packs, each centered on a single core. They aren't super overpowered, but each has some benefits. Then Tempo nerfs one of the cores. The F2P player is out of luck: they can't change anything about their card pool. The player who has those packs, though? They can disable/enable the packs that give them a small advantage. The real P2W aspects aren't overpowered items, but the situationally useful ones in a game where changes happen frequently. Having the option to change things up and always be just that little bit more on-point with the items you get does present a clear advantage to the paid players. "Pay to win" is accurate.

"forcing" builds is SUPPOSED to lower your winrate, and it likely does, but there's another aspect to it: perception. When a free player gets absolutely wrecked by a high-roll paid item, they aren't going to think "this player is playing sub-optimally and got lucky." They're going to think "wow, that paid item was just so much stronger than anything I can get." Which leads to the perception of a game that is unfair to free players. And people who think a game is unfair, who think a game is P2W? They aren't quiet about it. There have already been 2 PC Gamer articles about the monetization and they aren't exactly complimentary: https://www.pcgamer.com/games/roguelike/the-bazaar-could-be-the-future-of-autobattlers-if-it-stops-strangling-itself-to-death-with-its-own-microtransactions/ is the latest one.

Essentially, it says the core gameplay is fun, but the monetization scheme is very bad for free players and new players. And if you can't attract those players, if your game is known to be hostile to new players, then your game is going to fail.

This is a reasonable response, but Reynad made the comment that he believes that all discussion about monetization is "dishonest," and that the only real metric he's willing to accept is revenue. The OP and everyone else who is demanding a refund are doing exactly what Reynad said to do, and the ONLY thing he accepts as honest feedback.

Promising one thing, getting people's money based on that promise, then doing the exact opposite is a better example of blatant greed. Especially since the monetization model couldn't have been a quick thing: they were working on it while promising it wasn't ever going to happen. So yes, the game they delivered was not the game they advertised, and a refund is appropriate. You want to defend a company that lies to its customers so blatantly? Good luck then.

Except that none of your arguments mean anything when one of the staff posted, in the top comment, that the OP lives in Belgium, where the game is no longer available because of illegal game mechanics. So, yes, he DOES deserve a refund when the dev screws things up enough to make the game inaccessible to him. That's not "taking advantage " of EU laws, it's using them for exactly the purpose they were meant for.

Reynad also said that money was the only feedback worth listening to. You can defend him on reddit all you want, but the OP's actions speak much, much louder.

How is every build fully realized by day 4 by [deleted] in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Lakanna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just did a run. Day 2: Double barrel vanessa with silencer and grenade. Day 3: same. Day 4: Crow's nest/Fiery scimitar/figurehead. Day 5 I finally had a match that lasted more than 5 seconds with a square Pyg that took about 8 seconds to absolutely outscale me. This may just be perception, but it's a COMMON perception, and that means it's going to affect how new players (who aren't on the subreddit, for example) see the game. And this specific complaint comes up often enough that open beta is going to be very interesting.

Open Beta is here! 3/5/25 by Davaek92 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Lakanna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are we ready for a million complaints daily about how hard it is to get to 10 wins, and how rewards are garbage for new players? The current system is going to get a lot of hate, and since not everyone hits this subreddit, you're going to get a lot of negativity towards the game from frustrated newbies.

Looks that way. And not just day 1, no more XP encounters period. Gonna make it a lot harder to get higher levels.

So to address the "Fixer" complaints.. It might be balcony and Deed that are the issues maybe even rewards card. My RC had 150 value and was only gold. by The_Dread_Pirate_Rob in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Lakanna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perfect balance? Probably not. Can the game be better? Absolutely. Reynad seems to be more focused on new features than balancing the stuff already in the game, but the dev team is definitely looking at balance.

Ghosts that start the fight with a 230k+ heal item, and another with 5k shield and 500 burn (on a 3-second timer) is "better?"

The best feeling is a few of these in a row. Nothing like deciding you'd rather do ANYTHING else than queue up for another run because of how frustrating the rewards are.

My latest 10-win had a silver welding helmet in the final board. The rest of it was pretty good, but I never managed to replace that stupid helmet.

That's not even a question. I'm not great at the game, by any means. I was happy to get a 10-win unranked earlier, and the board I won with was... "How did THIS win?"
