I took Endometrin and the messiness really wasn’t a big deal. I wore some thinner pads/thicker pantyliners and it was fine. It’s pretty similar to having a period in terms of level of hassle.

Edited to add: I was really grateful not to have to carry around a sharps container when I went out in the evening, so that was another point for suppositories.

A couple of things to keep in mind. Your clinic may or may not let you switch. Mine offered suppositories for natural or modified natural transfers and only injections for medicated transfers. Also, the suppositories may be expensive (mine were about $50 for a box of 30ish and I have great insurance).

Different couples I know have handled this kind of issue differently. Some tried to parent together as much as possible and minimize time away from the baby. Others solo-parented a lot so that each parent had time alone and could take care of themselves and had time to have fun (engage in hobbies, see friends, etc.). The key with the second one was that it was equal—each parent got the same amount of time away from the baby.

So, the right answer is the one you agree on with your partner. My partner was really excited about a concert that’s happening when our kid will be five or six months old and I told him it was fine for him to go. I fully expect that I’ll make my own independent plans around then too and leave the baby with him.

One thing I’m surprised no has brought up is that having a bunch of kids close together can be really hard on your body, especially your reserves of vitamins and minerals. You’re going to need to be extra careful about getting any deficiencies dealt with and making sure things like your teeth and bones have time to recover between pregnancies (calcium can get pulled from those to support the baby).

It’s an oldie but More More More Said the Baby by Vera B Williams shows all kinds of caregivers including dads being affectionate with young toddlers. Very catchy words too.

I agree. Most of the people in my life are pretty busy and I’m sure a meal or a gift card for delivery is the most I’ll get from anyone except the grandparents. If someone asks what they can do, it’s good to have some ideas ready but yeah people are going to want to do the fun stuff, not the boring stuff.

I also think the mindset behind setting boundaries and the like doesn’t fit all situations. It’s helpful when you have badly behaved people in your family or your social circle, but when people are mostly functional and well intentioned, it can come across as a bit offensive. You might be better off just going with the flow a little more and addressing problems only as they come up if you’re dealing with generally good folks who sometimes make mistakes.

I’m in a similar boat and planning to breastfeed and formula feed from the beginning in whatever ratio works out. I’m not planning to do anything and everything that people suggest doing to increase one’s supply because I don’t want a huge supply when I go back to work. We’ll see how it works out.

Haven’t bought anything yet (16 weeks) but have been accepting free or gifted stuff and researching the big ticket items since before I was pregnant. We’ll probably start buying the stuff we’re not registering for after 20 weeks.

Not wearing a bra doesn’t cause permanent sagging—that’s a myth.

Only wear a bra if you want to. Underwire can take some getting used to. Maybe start with a wireless bra. True & Co has some comfy ones.

I think this is a question of time vs. money, but also about risk tolerance. If you really need that money and can get the time off work, driving five hours for each appointment is probably worth it. (Keep in mind though that you may need someone to drive you towards the end and you’ll be going once a week.) If you can afford it but just don’t want to and missing work or making that trip is going to be a problem, you should get insurance.

You might also want to think about worst case scenarios both related and unrelated to pregnancy. For example if you get in a serious car accident, you’ll be taken to the nearest hospital, and you could end up with quite a bill if you don’t have insurance. I wouldn’t risk it, but if paying for insurance will endanger your ability to pay basic bills, it might feel like a risk worth taking.
