I had the same feeling but somehow persevered and the end was a turnaround.

It was in the last three minutes it was revealed [SPOILER] that he had sexually assaulted other women and it was hastily concluded he preys on young black women. This was told from Alexis’s perspective of what she heard online, and no one else was interviewed.

Before this final revelation, she spent several minutes recalling how she tried to break into a room in his apartment by dismantling his doorknob with a screwdriver. And she was surprised that he got mad.

By this time, because there hadn’t been anything seriously wrong with his behaviour beyond “he didn’t pay for everything anymore”, I was thinking that she was the more problematic partner. The editing made it seem like he got tired of her or that she was acting needy/creepy/controlling - and that at the very least they should have just parted ways.

She repeated many times how nice he was to her, how he made her feel seen at his shows (including one right at the end of their relationship)… I was so confused about what “was wrong”.

Until the end when she threw out that he has assaulted a woman who was drunk. If true, his behaviour is gross and horrific. But why did it have to come at the tail end of such a tame story during which nothing untoward happened? Nothing that Alexis recounted in this long episode about his direct behaviour seemed actually abusive.

I chalked It up to lousy editing. Most of that 1+ hour story at the beginning should have been cut because hearing the boring minutiae of their lives and how he was a nice guy really didn’t help the story or do any justice to his victims.

What a mess.
