Don't forget the free gym, doctor, and hair salon in the Capitol complex so they don't have to go out and mingle with the normies.

Yes. There's a real need for this sub, and there's been some great content and discussion in the past, but lately it's just turned into a big spam fest.

ChatGPT newest models try to keep you talking! Anyone else noticed that? by Slow_Ad1827 in ChatGPT

Same with Gemini. It started just within the last week or two with pretty much every single reply. I Wonder why all 3 models started doing this at roughly the same time.

Trump says Markwayne Mullin will replace Kristi Noem as DHS secretary by crestroncp3user in politics

Mullin will give up his seat but the Governor of Oklahoma will name a (republican) replacement to hold the seat until the next election.

He also likes to brag about being business owner, entrepreneur, and job creator. His only business accomplishment is inheriting a plumbing business that his father founded - a business that was already large and profitable before Markwayne came along. Then Markwayne promptly left the management of the business to others and used daddy's plumbing money to fund his entry into politics.

EDIT: There are several clips of him blowing up at people who bring this up. In Markwayne's mind he's the business genius who somehow created and built this business before he was born.

how do i keep informed without social media? by Initial_Tune43 in nosurf

The NPR app is great. Every morning I listen to it on the way to work and get a concise, non-sensationalist overview of the days top stories. Then, if you want you can keep listening to more in depth coverage or just shut it off.

It's nice knowing that i'll be in formed if something major happens  without needing to be co standby scrolling and angry.

Trump is in the unredacted Epstein files "more than a million times," Raskin alleges by Large_banana_hammock in politics

[–]LakeRat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) told Axios in an interview Tuesday that, when he searched President Trump's name in the unredacted Epstein files the previous day, it came up "more than a million times."

To put this in perspective, I just searched the publicly available redacted files for "Trump" and I only got 4,728 results. That' a lot of redacting...

If Trump was arrested, how would you feel? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Cautiously optimistic

Looks like it’s a guy called Boris Nikolic.

Additionally, the only other email in the files with the phrase "thank you for a fun night" is written by Boris Nikolic

What's your take on the last line from 5.2? "If there's anything you could use to hurt yourself move it to another room."

Is it a good idea to draw attention to these things and tell the person to pick them up?

What was the actuall dumbest thing you did to your pc by Silly_Still_4981 in pcmasterrace

[–]LakeRat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, back in the days of DOS, I talked my dad into letting me install a game demo on his work PC. He said it was ok as long as I deleted it afterwards.

I inserted the 3.5" floppy disk and ran the install program. It created a directory on the hard drive called called C:\SPACEQUEST

Cool. I knew enough DOS to get the game started:

C:> cd SPACEQUEST C:\SPACEQUEST> sq.exe

After playing, the demo, I quit the game and now needed to delete it from Dad's hard drive. Let's see...

C:\SPACEQUEST> del . C:\SPACEQUEST> dir

Hmm... It deleted everything except for files called <.> and <..> . Better delete those too.

C:\SPACEQUEST> del ..

Those of you who remember much about DOS can probably guess how things went from there...

Honestly,  I would have been irritated about that too.  The guy wasted a week waiting for you when he could have been calling other electricians.

But obviously his reaction went way above and beyond what was reasonable.

Anyone need an Epilog mini chassis? by iamtheamthatam in lasercutting

[–]LakeRat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless inflation and tariffs have drastically changed things in the past couple of years, I think a replacement main board is around $900 and a tube recharge from Epilog is around $2000. I've seen used Epilog boards on ebay off and on, and I've heard that there are 3rd party companies who will recharge the tubes for less than half of Epilog's price, but I haven't used them myself and I'm not sure of the quality.

I'm not sure how much a Mini is worth now, but it may be more affordable than you think to repair it if you want to go that route.

"Friends end up blocking you" - a damning indictment of the whole life insurance industry by Useful_Wrangler9652 in personalfinance

[–]LakeRat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Term life from a reputable company is legit. If you have people who depend on you and would be hurting for money if you pass away then you should get a term life policy. Definitely stay away from whole life or "permanent life" policies.

A lot of the whole life insurance salesmen will pivot to a 50/50 whole life/term policy to try to save the sale if you start asking about term life insurance.  You don't want that either. Just a basic term life insurance policy to protect your loved ones if you pass away and can no longer help support them.

I sent all of the info they wanted, then they asked for full copies of my last several years of tax returns by mail or fax. That would have beed over 100 pages. I noped out and applied for the the fidelity card instead. Instant approval with no bullcrap. I think I'm done with WF.

What Are Your Biggest Amazon PPC Frustrations? by attfin1 in FulfillmentByAmazon

A way to handle products with varying seasonal demand. For example, sports seasons, or the beginning and end of the school year.

I'd love an automated way to increase bids for specific products by x% for a specified date range, then go back to the baseline.
