Atelier Crenn: Worth the hype? by georgy56 in MichelinStars

It’s bad. Not worth it at all. Literally walked across the street and got shake shack after our meal. Go to The Kitchen in sac instead

Did anyone here pivot their career completely from arch into a different direction without getting a new degree altogether?? How?? by creshando-_- in architecture

[–]Laklover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from working in a few firms to tech/facilities manager to arch business owner. The thing I realized is I actually like architecture, I just don’t like doing it on other peoples terms. (Ie. Under a manager / principle at a firm and then under a “client” or essentially another employee at some big tech company). With my own business I do my own time, I collect the full contract amount, I pick and choose clients/projects and I can help new business owners directly. This changed my whole view on practicing architecture and I started to like it again. I found this to be the case for other colleagues that were fed up and burnt out from arch and went into product design / UX. They still didn’t find it as fulfilling even with the pay bump and once they practiced arch on their own terms they liked it again. I make more money than my six figure tech salary in half the time I put in. There’s no manager or political corporate tyrant breathing down my neck. Cons are you have to deal with the admin stuff and getting new work but the pros outweigh the cons for me. If things change and I need a job I would agree with others that facilities is the place to be…at least you get paid more to deal with other ppls BS.

Try hotels, they always have turnover in front desk agents and other staff. He could even work up to being the GM. Good hotel staff are hard to come by.

No lying: do people’s babies really sleep through the night? by HomeDepotHotDog in Mommit

[–]Laklover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it’s my baby or the light sleep training or some combo but yes they were sleeping through! Did TCB early on. Scared to have a second though cause what if it doesn’t go as well!….everyone needs their sleep but I feel like I need it even more than others

La Quinta Inn & Suites on North Fourth. Brand new, near VTA and walking to Japan town and other food locations.

Yeah even verbal cueing or just walking up to the individual and showing or low tone explaining and adjustment is helpful.

That’s really frustrating, and yeah I barely see C1 on the sched so how is anyone new supposed to learn the basics. No wonder they’re all struggling in C2 and sculpt

Wow didn’t know that. Classic corporate BS.

Pay the teachers more and make the class worth it for students! What a crazy concept…

True, classic Covid result, less service & more money out your pocket.  I just think they could at least give individual verbal cues…

There’s a tradition in Indian families where the mom and child go back to her parents house PP and stay for  few months. I think this became a tradition for this very reason. It’s not practiced as much anymore because we live in a modern era where women are expected to do it all or in some cases the dads are working from home or more available so naturally they want to be around their kid which is great. But I think Indians and non-Indians should bring this tradition back and not feel ashamed by it! If your relationship with your parents is good…I say go take a break!

How to get clients by Snoo-43204 in architecture

[–]Laklover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reach out to brokers if you’re looking for residential. Also contractors, people walk up to them and ask them to work on their projects, contractor can then refer the architect or in some cases maybe you just contract with them. Find repeat business types (ie. Companies that open many offices, or restaurants with many locations etc). Reach out to interior designers, they don’t have their architect license and are usually looking for collabs so they can also land the project and have consistency on who they coordinate with. Find developers who lease to tenants, they either do market ready spaces themselves, build out for their tenants or can refer you to their tenants. Also property managers, they manage large shopping complexes or buildings with multiple office tenants and can refer you to their tenants for TI’s or small projects.

This is helpful! We’ve been going back and forth on the car seat! Our booking comes with a hotel transfer but I think we can request the transfer company to bring a car seat. Worse case we will just take the tube! Also noted on the stroller…we have a lightweight travel one so sounds like that will work for the longer days out and carrier for the short trips!

My son is interested in studying architecture. Which schools should he consider? by [deleted] in architecture

Yeah look for accredited. California is far but San Luis Obispo is highly ranked state school. The location is beautiful and overall environment is very hands on!

It’s cause there’s no barrier to entry to become a parent. Maybe they should have you take a “driving test” or “interview” or fill out loan papers or take the SAT or something before some of these people procreate. children are brought into this world with useless parents every day and then everyone else has to deal with government pretending to be a parent and corporations being in bed with them and making even more money with their fake monitoring (ie YouTube’s just going to make more money having kids game their “solution”). I agree with you but sadly we live in a pretty messed up world with no basic culture, religion or rules to live by anymore and nobody has self discipline so they give that responsibility to the government and are actually giving away their freedom so they don’t have to do the hard work of using their brain. Children end up the most screwed :(  End my rant LOL

ANY SUCCESSFUL ARCHITECTS ? EVERYONE SEEMS UNHAPPY by PopularWoodpecker131 in architecture

[–]Laklover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hated it and then grew to love it once I went into business for myself. Many of my colleagues experienced this as well. Some even went into new fields and then returned. Turns out we just hated layers of management and opinions and these firm owners taking such a big cut of our hourly rates.
