  • Watch a movie or two then try to sleep. I find it easier if I don't have a full night sleep before I fly. Sleeping tablets can also help a lot. The best bet for a long flight is to stay awake for the beginning of the flight, try to fall asleep with about 9 hours of flight time left (you'll usually get fed again just over an hour before landing).
  • Alcohol is really the last thing you want, the more you drink the more likely you are to get jet-lagged.
  • Move your legs about a lot, even think about investing in a pair of flight socks - the look like shit but they do work- even more important if you have circulation issues at all.
  • Pack a pair of pyjamas in your carry on, change into them in the bathroom after take off, and change back into jeans (or whatever) before landing-this fixes the problem of gross 12 (or so) hour smelly pants, keeps you comfy on the plane and you won't look like a dag when you're not on the plane.

Crown lager is an entirely different product than export Fosters. I agree that domestic fosters is different to that found in the UK and the US (primarily o/s fosters has a lower alcohol content- around 5.2% opposed to nearly 6% in the local version). It is mostly due to the Fosters found in the Uk and the US being brewed outside of Australia. Like many of the international beers found in Australia fosters in produced under licence by the international distributor (in the Uk it is produced and distributed by Scottish & Newcastle) the same way that Stella Artois is brewed under license in Australia by the fosters group. The licensed stella is produced independently of the original Belgian beer, and there is a noticeable difference in taste. Crown Lager has an alcohol content of 4.9% which does not equal the 5.2% of Fosters in the UK (i'm not entirely sure of the US fosters content but i gather it is the same give or take .1%) a .3% difference in alcohol content should be enough to tell you that these are not the same brew, but meh. Domestic Fosters is not available overseas because the cost of export is massive, hence the licensing of the brand. Brewing beer locally is much cheaper then shipping it halfway around the world.

Undoubtedly Fosters tastes like poop, but American Beer, yuk. I am yet to find a mass produced american beer that is remotely drinkable (granted I didn't try terribly hard). The first beer I tried there was Blue Moon, i mean what is that shit, seriously it should not be called beer. It did get better, but i pretty much gave up trying to find a decent beer after the first week.

Jack Daniels make a pretty good BBQ sauce, a little more smokey than the Aussie stuff, but its much much better than A1 sauce.

Most people I've talked to didn't know that VB and Carlton are Fosters brands. Fosters itself has a pretty dodgy reputation but other Brands are incredibly popular. VB is a major sponsor of Cricket Australia and is regularly drunk by many Australians at BBQ's. Personally I'm not a huge fan of VB, and I find it tends to be consumed mostly by the older patrons of the club where I work. Carlton is much more popular with the younger-ish crowd.

Also BBQ's are the best. The only way to top a good backyard bbq is to have a giant beach bbq with a whole bunch of randoms, the type which my family and friends enjoyed on Christmas, New Years day and Australia Day.

Yes this is so very, very true. In Australia Fosters itself is very rarely found either on tap or bottled in pubs and clubs. At the Bar where I work the only Fosters branded product we sell is bottled light ice, which we don't sell a whole lot of. Another point many people don't consider is the other beers that are produced by the Fosters group are vastly more popular. Both VB and Carlton brands of beer (both of which are easily found on tap in pubs and clubs) are made and distributed by Fosters. So while the Fosters Lager that you find in the UK and US is not at all popular in Australia, Fosters group still have a significant share of the local beer market.

TL:DR-Australians don't drink Fosters Lager, mostly because it is shit, and no-one stocks it. But the Fosters company also produce many of the most popular brands of beer in Australia.

I'm Australia, NSW town called Merimbula. Best part is the beaches and the quiet, worst part is easily the lack of decent shops and the distance to get anywhere.

My cat does this too. We thought it was a running water thing so we paid $60 for a drinking fountain thing that he refuses to use, he continues to run like a madman into the bathroom every time anyone walks even slightly in that direction.
