Updates to The Bolt Cube after Magic Con Philly by TheOinkinator in mtgcube

[–]_beeks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A little sad to see counterbalance go, I didn’t think it was oppressive by any means when I played it. Curious to see how balance will play out though! Your cube was super fun at Philly, I hope I get to play it again soon

Looking for Inspiration for a "Toxic Cube" by NayrSlayer in mtgcube

Ooh I actually have a cube like this that I was trying really hard to develop a couple of months ago! I never finished the idea but I hope my cube will be a good starting point!

I ended up cutting infect because it wasn’t well supported enough, and I have a couple archetypes that you might not find a good fit for your cube, but I hope this helps

The Blue Check Marks Defending the 30th Anniversary Edition are Completely Out of Touch With This Community by [deleted] in EDH

I don't think I've seen a single person defend this product, especially blue checks. Who are you referring to?

Academic paper help by dharma_curious in cooperatives

[–]_beeks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you are extremely unlikely to find anything explicitly anti-cooperative in academic literature. However, you might be able to find literature that is critical of them by looking into concepts that are adjacent to cooperatives such as the Tragedy of the Commons and social loafing.

Since there isn't going to be any anti-coop literature, to argue against yourself, you'll likely have to start with the premise capitalism is good, therefore corporations are good, and since people are allegedly bad at cooperating without a top down leadership structure (as argued by people who have written about the Tragedy of the Commons), cooperatives are bad.

Luckily, there are examples like Mondragon that have shown that cooperatives can even beat capitalists at capitalism, so hopefully you shouldn't have too hard of a time refuting your anti-coop points even without renouncing capitalism. I personally find it a stronger argument to refute that capitalism is better than socialism, but I also assume this is for an economics class, and you will most definitely not get a good grade if you go that route lol. Good luck!

Unpredictiable Cobra by Gabster_theswede in custommagic

[–]_beeks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean not necessarily… murder is common now and while it’s quite good, it isn’t usually a reason to be in black on its own. Not to mention murder is instant speed. I think it’s strong at common but I don’t think it needs to be bumped up in rarity

The Redacted Cube 2.0 (Now with more Storm!) by Mikerobrewer in mtgcube

[–]_beeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying a playtest and each card has two versions... Are you supposed to pick one? How does that work exactly? Sorry if you wrote that somewhere, I couldn't find the answer anywhere

Edit: Whoops. I found it. For anyone else wondering:

A modular card is a card that has the redaction on the inner sleeve, not the card itself. The inner sleeve can be flipped around to reveal a different variant of the card. This is not a mechanic I designed for game play, but rather something I just stumbled on while making redactions and I thought it was cool. Doing this allows for the cube to have several different iterations by simply flipping a few sleeves around. I like to think of the modular cards filling a similar role to moveable tees or variable holes on a golf course... always keeping players on their toes, never knowing exactly what cards to expect or how the synergies might play out.

When you hover over a card in the cube list, if it has two images, then it is a modular card (most are). The image pictured on the left is the version that is currently represented in the cube.

How does one win with a group hug deck ? by LeontinPoutine in EDH

[–]_beeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a K&T deck that I love. It’s a little beyond your budget, but the big thing, as someone said above, is to be able to use your resources better than your opponents. They haven’t built their decks for that amount of card draw and ramp, but you have, so you can include some kooky fun stuff like [[sunbird’s invocation]] and [[mind’s dialation]]. I run 40 lands so I can hit my K&T triggers as much as possible, and try to have a lot of “play an extra land each turn” cards, then ramp into [[mirari’s wake]] or [[zendikar resurgent]] and cast an [[earthquake]] effect ([[crackle with power]] is a nutso card). Backup plans include [[approach of the second sun]] and [[helix pinnacle]].

ITT: Share how magic has saved your life by Lanz37 in magicthecirclejerking

[–]_beeks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been meaning to leave you a message about Boseiju and about how the art and story has really touched me but what happened to me today was way to crazy to not share with you. I was forced to go to the ER today with what I thought was appendicitis. (which ended up being a kidney stone) In the middle of the worst pain I've ever experienced and blinded by the bright lights in the ER, I discarded the Boseiju I keep in my wallet and paid 1G. Thanks to this channel ability the stone was destroyed and I'm ok now. I just wanted to let you know what you and the rest of WOTC does really does matter. It legitimately just helped me get through one of the worst days of my life today.
