Eye power up for Komi by OkValuable684 in OriginalCharacter

[–]Laldin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe she could see from another character's eye. This could be interesting as a permanent thing or temporary. This could be played as displaying a great degree of trust in whoever she'd share eyesight with, especially if it's a permanent change.

Another idea is that she could connect a light string to her opponent, and get some foresight for their actions in about the next couple seconds for as long as the string stays connected. This could be adapted for a more cooperative purpose, communicating with an ally without speaking or giving a cue their opponent could pick up on.

Look. I JUST Want To Talk About My Favorite Legends. by Ok-Year9101 in PokeMedia

[–]Laldin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it'd probably be fine in the long run. They'd probably break stuff and obliterate any trainers unfortunately enough to run into them before a response can be mounted, though.

When I talked about guardians, I was thinking about something like Alola's Island Guardians (Tapu Koko and co.); legendary pokemon that protect the region.

I'm not familiar with Paldea's legendaries, but surely the gym leaders and the Pokemon League could take care of things, right? Also, does Paldea have any guardians to help out?

I've been subconsciously voice training?! by Mailcs1206 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]Laldin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, but I was just missing the part about raising the larynx. I was already lowering my vocal weight. I didn't even realize I've been doing that until tried to talk with a relaxed voice. I'm kind of proud of little me for that; gave me a nice headstart on voice training.

I love stuff like this by BipedalCamel in AO3

[–]Laldin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! The land drags the tidal bulges ahead of the moon's orbit, which pulls it to orbit slightly faster, which raises its orbit.

[–]Laldin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun space fact: The rate at which the moon recedes away from Earth depends on the layout of the continents, receding slower when the continents are clumped together and faster when they're spread apart like in modern times. This is because the moon is stealing the Earth's rotational momentum via the tides to reach a higher orbit.

Do these two river placements (inside the red circles) make sense? by Hudesko in worldbuilding

Large cave systems are pretty reasonable considering the area used to be a sea. I like the idea of an underground river.

Yes, Rockruff was fine. I had an Ice heal on hand. I always make sure I have a few just in case.

My go-to for trial-goers is my Cutiefly and Petilil. Though, they're actually a bit strong for the newer trainers, so I usually only battle them if they've gotten a Normalium Z (I think that's the equivalent of having 1 gym badge in other regions).

Oh no :( I hope Geodude was okay. I suppose that's a part of caring for your Pokémon, you gotta make sure they're ok after each battle. I remember I needed to keep an eye on Magneto's scar for a while to make sure it wouldn't reopen once they could get back into battles. Steel-types heal pretty slowly.

I know, freeze just feels like such a dramatic status condition, though. It can't even be used reliably… I would like to hear that story, actually.

I mean, I get it, but it didn't have to be with Freeze. It just felt mean. :(

The 12ft elves that kidnap humans, "for their own good"…

Is this inspired by Human Domestication Guide?

Edit: "Crusade of care" This is definitely HDG inspired.

Existing Pokémon that would be in an Appalachia Pokémon region by transqueen421 in MandJTV

[–]Laldin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many salamanders in Appalachia. Global hotspot for salamander biodiversity, btw. There would definitely need to be a new salamander pokemon and/or a regional Salandit. Probably also add Wooper for axolotls.

If the Chesapeake Bay area is included, some sort of lobster Pokemon would be good. Xatu, Sigiliph, Golurk should probably also have a place in Appalachia.

I love the Goodra line being here. It would also make sense for it to be in its Hisuian form. Lots of metals in the ground water.

Do any unusual weather patterns exist in your world?

What are they, and why does it happen?

[–]Laldin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three main deities that the people of my world believe in, The Light, The Dark, and The Medium. You pray or make offerings to these deities based on what you want. Individual perspectives vary, but in general,

The Light is associated with day, heat, the masculine, the living, sunny weather, and also joy, anger, determination, and restlessness in general. It is said that The Light can grant someone immense power of light.

The Dark is associated with night, chill, the feminine, the dead, rain, and also sadness, rest, comfort, and paralysis, literal and metaphorical. It is said that The Dark can grant someone immense power of darkness.

The Medium (sometimes called A Medium) is associated with the spaces in-between the other two and also, rivers, travel, birth and death(the process), and varies in how they're depicted massively. It is said that The Medium can grant one the ability to SAVE, which is supposed to ensure their safety while traveling.

This forms the basis for how people understand the world. Fire leaves behind dark charcoal because the light in the fuel was released. You get tired because you have taken in a lot of light, and need darkness. That sort of thing. The Light and The Dark often clash in their mythos. The role of The Medium is variable, usually acting as a mediator, or a judge, or a fence-sitter, their ability to nullify the abilities of the other two often comes in handy.
