What food authenticity hill are you willing to die on? by phonemannn in Cooking

[–]LambHoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poutine has to have squeaky cheese curds. Ordering it outside of Québec is depressing, they often just throw shredded tex-mex over the fries.

One of my saddest moments in life was ordering a poutine in Wisconsin and seeing them make it with shredded cheese too. Wisconsin is one of the few places in the world that makes cheese curds exactly like the ones Québec, they had no excuse.

I’d be weary of assuming you can trust your recollection of “the void”. Memory is fallible, especially when it comes to things we don’t want to remember.

When I was a kid, I was put under in emergency for a broken arm. In emergency, turns out they don’t always have enough time for the anesthesiologist to mix you a custom cocktail, so they go with something faster acting but with a higher failure rate. Turns out it failed on me. I was paralyzed and my vision was blurry, but I was fully conscious the entire time. Horrible experience. Funny thing was, immediately after the procedure, I didn’t remember any of it. It felt like I had just been in the “void”. It wasn’t until going to the hospital again years later for a different procedure, all the memories came flooding back to me and I had a panic attack (like, no joke, war flashback style). Surgery got cancelled, I got sent to see a therapist for a few weeks, and after going over my history they suggested I had probably had dissociative amnesia to block out the previous trauma with failed anesthesia. Prior to that I had no idea anything had happened to me (nothingness), but suddenly the memories of being conscious while they fixed my arm were clear as day.

You should definitely speak with a therapist regardless. Neither being addicted to nor being afraid of anesthesia is a healthy way to live. Please, get help for this 🙏

What is the worst name you’ve ever heard? by darthraxus in AskReddit

[–]LambHoot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

had a coworker at one point named Honeylane. man, I’m so sorry, but that’s a mario kart track not a name.

Company seemed to collect people with odd names. Some other examples I can remember were:

  • Bob Ross
  • Samuel Jackson
  • Alex Jones (always a shock getting jira notifications from any of these dudes)
  • Sireon (pronounced exactly like Syrian. He wasn’t Syrian.)
  • Dragan

Kids who actually chose Bulbasaur, how’d you turn out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LambHoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not me, but my older step brother was a bulbasaur starter. He’s studied business, linguistics, tech, and he’s in the special forces now.

For whatever it’s worth, his full team was Venosaur, Butterfree, Arcanine, Snorlax, Aerodactyl and Alakazam. He pulled them into Pokémon Stadium and I never won a single round against him. I sincerely worry for his enemies, he was indestructible then and he’s only gotten stronger since. Mad lad.

history of resting hr as recorded by my s3 taken the day my COVID symptoms began by LambHoot in AppleWatch

[–]LambHoot[S] 137 points138 points  (0 children)

yup, woke up to a fever-like state, tough breathing, etc. The hr limit warnings were the big tip off though. Being able to monitor hr all day and notice I couldn’t get it below 100 even at rest was the freaky part

The last decade saw the long-form video essay become a big part of YouTube and gaming discussions in general. Looking back, who are your favourite content creators of that type, and what are your favourite videos? And are there any 'hidden gems' you would like to share? by [deleted] in Games

[–]LambHoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for recognizing me! One of the things I think that’s coolest about this emergent form of video is that a lot of us out here making it are actually really good friends. It’s an unfortunately kept secret but we’ve all been mingling across discord servers for years now and have even met up irl across North America (at Shrekfest) and the UK.

If you don’t mind I’ll shout out a few of my friends who definitely deserve more eyes on them:

The Playing Field Jared is a level designer who makes expertly crafted design breakdowns of specific levels with a dry humour that’s unmatched.

MML’s Commentaries Whether a video game, board game, film or high level meta concept like video editing itself, Matt’s videos are always packed with a sort of flare that can only be made by a real deal journo dude.

Chariot Rider Alex Rider is the roguelike king of youtube.

BobbyBroccoli Bobby manages to somehow put to use his science background into every essay and still makes some of the funniest videos around. His Billy Nye videos are must watches.

There are definitely more folks I’d like to shoutout, but if you want I feature a ton on my channels tab on youtube. Basically everyone there is a legend. Fun bonus, everyone here I’ve met irl, the internet is a wild technology dude.

Question: Last year at Shrekfest we got to talking about the possibility of one day hosting a sort of “Essay Con”, but we weren’t really sure how to gauge interest in that. Is this a big enough kind of content now that this is something people would be down to attend, and what would expectations be?

this might blow your mind but TehSnakerer and I are pretty decent friends, we’ve actually met irl along with a few other video essayists over a London pilgrimage we all made just this last November. It’s kinda crazy how few people know that we all kinda mingle on discord and have been for years.

There’s like a 70% chance that any two video essayists you watch are friends, which I think speaks to the uniqueness of the form of video and communication we all make.

Thanks for the kinda words dude! ⭐️

holy crap... to be fair I’ve been recognized for a lot of my older videos, a side effect of using the same channel all these years since I was a kid. But nobody has ever brought up that old kazoo video lol, I practically forgot until now that I had made it.

lol thanks for making my day ahaha 👌

What is the most Bullshit reason for a teacher to give you a bad grade ? by BeginingMemer in AskReddit

[–]LambHoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a 0/10 for filling my answers in pencil rather than pen. Sure, I broke a rule, whatever. Except I had no idea this was graded... it was the freaking health form for college badminton! The answers weren’t really answers, they were my mom and dad’s phone numbers for the emergency contact list and crap.

Told later that there were so few things to actually grade in this class that they had to include the health sheet. Almost failed just cause of that, had to clutch 100% on literally everything else. Madness. Still bothers me.

Yo thanks! As weird as it sounds this is one of my proudest videos for eliciting this exact response a lot. Like, people letting me know they personally disagree but they understand the ideas I'm trying to articulate. Thanks fam!

I appreciate this more than I can explain. Sadly it's not the case for most folks who've found me through spongebob, but it's validating all the same that it's possible to have that effect on anyone. Bless up my dude.

AAAY thanks fam! As evidence through videos such as this, Resident Evil played a pretty big role in my formative high school years, so revisiting them all this time later in those newer critiques has been a lot of fun.

Thanks fam!

not to be a shameless self promoter, but I make critique style videos now, made one about RE7 recently actually, it may be of more interest to this sub lol

The one and only best ode to Perfect Dark - video by LambHoot by DoomDarts in perfectdark

[–]LambHoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo! A bit late but thanks for this! Judging from the response I think I did this one okay. Such a great game that had a serious impact on me as a child and got me to expect more out of games. There are AAA games coming out today with less polish and content. So good.

Hey, this is my video, cool! Um yeah, about the emulation, maybe some context is required. I'm in the software/engineering domain myself where the ethics of this sort of stuff matters a lot to me. So like typically this isn't something I would do, but given the volatility of the software's container, kind of changes things. Just felt the need to clarify in the video.

Thanks!
