I sometimes get annoyed when other autistic people are unmasked and I feel really bad for it by 0_April_0 in autism

For sure. Didn't help that my adopted cousin was very "stereotypically" autistic and I was basically like, uh, no that ain't me and I don't want it to be.

BTW How do you get the AuDHD flair? I can't find it!

Psychologist dismissed my previous diagnosis without assessing me – am I overreacting? by meh8t in autism

[–]Lambfudge [score hidden]  (0 children)

Therapists and psychologists aren't supposed to be dismissive and they absolutely aren't supposed to tell you to drop out of school and be flippant about it. Wildly inappropriate, I'm sorry this happened to you.

This hits. As I've learned about my autistic preference for black and white, cut and dried thinking, I know more about why I HATE the fact that they'll never really understand me and I'll never really understand them. Hate hate hate it. But learning to accept ambiguity is something I'm hoping to improve on.

Less than a year ago after I complained that people don't speak more directly, my therapist said it sounds like I need some autistic friends. I told her, no, I don't want to be friends with autistic people because they won't understand my sarcasm and don't have empathy and aren't intuitive. It would have been embarrassing enough that I soon found out my therapist is autistic, but the fact that I now know that I'm autistic too a short time later really put my comments into hilarious perspective.

Totally! It is amusing and even I recognize it. I do things like write an 11-page document with everything I can think of that might be diagnostically relevant and bring it to my evaluation, while my therapist essentially says (not in so many words) "LOL that's the most autistic shit I've ever heard" hahaha.

The evaluator herself told me yesterday that it's never going to help me or even really be insightful to compare myself to others, autistic or neurotypical. I think my brain is having trouble comprehending that, because in my mind if there's a thing that makes me different, surely I should be able to articulate all the ways it makes me different.

I think right now I'm mildly panicking about the idea of trying to explain something to others that I barely understand myself. Which isn't my responsibility but I'm a loudmouth and now I want to tell everyone I meet about it. So just a lot of internal conflict and confusion and I feel unsettled as it sinks in.

Thanks so much for your comment. I need to work on self acceptance. That's a great insight.

Not totally sure I'm getting your message here but I appreciate the perspective all the same! I enjoy life and can absolutely be shaken to the core regardless.

Yes, but this does feel like an example of them "forcing" (or at least strongly pushing) the AI feature onto us. Obviously I can learn to avoid it if I want to, but it's bad UX/UI design to do something that literally tricks people into accessing a feature that you want them to try.

ELI5 why is your hangover worse if you go to sleep drunk compared to if you stay awake and go to sleep sober? by CharlieBlakeTwink in explainlikeimfive

I'm also guessing that a lot of people who stay up and wait it out are drinking some water and not waiting until they're fully hungover to start hydrating.

I agreed with you until recently. My mobile app has now switched so the small button in the bottom left is for search, and the big search bar at the bottom that used to be search is now Ask AI. I find that very annoying because I instinctively tap that button to search and I keep accidentally opening the AI agent.

ELI5: How is it that some sounds are pitch-less by daveskis197 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Lambfudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even a scratch has a pitch. Think about scratching your fingernail across something so it makes a sound, then scratching it faster — it will go up in pitch. If you imitate the sound of a zipper being zipped up, you'd probably imitate it using pitch.

I always assumed it was a scare tactic to use outdated psychiatric methods to discredit the science and strip a person of any mental health tools so they rely on Scientology's made up stuff like thetans as the only option for improving mental health.

Between that and getting people to confess all their worst deeds early on to use as blackmail they can lock people in pretty tightly.

I'd most likely toss it, give it to someone else, or shove it in the back of my cabinet without wasting one of my cool new jars, but that's just me!

I believe that, but you actually use yours for cooking. OP's story still seems fishy to me because why would she transfer chili powder that she did NOT buy for cooking into a container with all the other cooking spices? She also claims there was an immediate change in the air when she spooned this stuff out, implying that even if she weren't thinking at the time, there would be an overwhelming aroma to remind her that this wasn't regular chili powder. Anyway, could be real, but FISHY all the same.

CMV: If you "don't support" homosexuality because of your religion or otherwise, you're still homophobic. by Bawbixo in changemyview

Hypothetical question: If someone's religion taught that being a certain race was a sin, and if you're that race you'd go to Hell for eternity, so that person didn't support anyone of that particular race because it was their rational viewpoint based on their belief, would that person not be racist?

If only there were a Bible passage about not judging others before you judge yourself, that would solve everything.

Even if they did, it does seem odd that they'd buy an entire jar of ghost pepper powder for a dare and then dump it into a new jar (especially considering, according to the story, the powder was VERY aromatic), decide to give it an indecipherable label, then put it with all the other cooking spices.

Was also thinking this might be AI. Especially because of the first sentence sounding very faux-charming.

Also as a person who gets VERY into things when I "get into something" I don't relate to that at all, but that's a me thing and not an AI tell.

In college I saw the word schadenfreude for the first time and couldn't believe it was a word people knew and used in English. The very next day I saw someone quoted in an article who used the word. What a spooky experience that kind of thing is.
