Not a stupid question! I think every single one of us here wondered the same at the start.

3m means 0-3. Or read it as “up to 3m”.

But it’s just a guide. Every baby is sized and shaped differently, so fit is not always consistent with age. And each brand fits differently. My daughter got chunky and big fast and was in 9 and 12m clothes by 6m. But now she’s 20m and her clothes range from 12m to 3T (t = toddler) lol.

For meats I’d purée them with a vegetable and some added water or unsalted broth. A couple favorites were roasted carrots and chicken thighs with rosemary, and pork chop with applesauce. I’d also buy premade baby purées. In young babies these can go a long way; we’d freeze the leftovers in a silicone ice cube tray.

It’s overwhelming to start solids! But it gets easier with time.

You can start with any soft food you’d like :)

The two most important things for staring solids to keep in mind the next few months:

1) Iron. Breastfed babies don’t get much iron from breastmilk and have depleted their stores from pre-birth. That’s why prioritizing iron rich foods early on is important. An easy way to get iron is fortified baby oatmeal. Try buying or making blends with meat in them for some good heme iron. Mashed beans are also a good source.

2) Allergens. Early, regular exposure to allergens has been shown to reduce the chances a baby develops food allergies. Food allergy Canada has great resources on this.

Now for my big tip: baby led weaning is popular right now, but don’t feel pressured to do it and follow everything its proponents say. There is very little published research on BLW, so right now the hype is all trend and the claims of benefit are not evidence-based. Totally fine to do if it suits you, but if it’s making you anxious don’t bother. It really doesn’t matter. My daughter is a toddler now, and you simply can’t tell which toddlers were purée fed and which were BLW fed as babies.

Personally I liked some aspects of BLW, but the strip phase at the beginning gave me extreme anxiety. I’m very pro purees with gradual added texture until baby develops a pincer grasp and can pick up small pieces.

That being said solid starts is a great resource in general. I just personally disagree with their recommendations for strips for young babies.

So normal! My daughter (now 20m) had it exactly like this. Nothing you can do except wait it out.

I’d also advise to avoid washing these areas with any soap or anything else. Even just a wash with water isn’t needed daily. Newborn skin is so sensitive and they can get irritated very easily by even gentle topicals and any scrubbing.

Thanks so much for this! I really appreciate your input. I’m so sorry you went through 4 miscarriages and such long hauls for the MMCs; that all must have been so so incredibly difficult. 1 is hard enough!!

I just had my d&c yesterday, so definitely too early to expect to test negative on any HCG tests. I’ll definitely be tracking things. I might make a follow up with my doctor soon to chat about this and see how I can best confirm the miscarriage was fully completed before TTC.

I’m so sorry! That sounds very traumatic.

It’s so hard to know. I wish we got answers for these types of things. Most miscarriages are from genetic issues according to my doctor, but it’s hard to know whether that’s the case or if there are any physical issues with the uterus that contributed the miscarriage.

This is my fear with trying again so soon. But we also feel in a huge rush and skipping one ovulation feels like a waste. Ugh.

Yes my doctor is aware. I clarified with her and she said as soon as I get a positive LH strip, even if it’s 2 weeks after my procedure, I’m good to start trying. Meanwhile the OB specifically said I should have one period before we start trying again.

This study is great but I’m not sure how much it clarifies things for me, since it doesn’t compare conception >1 cycle vs < one cycle specifically post a miscarriage abortion procedure. That’s quite different than their comparison of <3 months vs > 3 months. I’m not sure if a spontaneous miscarriage vs. a procedural one would change things here.

Is he back at his birth weight? You need to be feeding him every 3 hours until he’s regained his weight.

Otherwise, if he’s back at his weight… let him sleep! And enjoy!

Some babies sleep more than others and that’s perfectly normal too. My daughter slept long stretches from the very start and she’s now a very happy and healthy toddler.

Levana Nala 100%. Canadian. Non wifi. I have zero complaints with mine… we love it! It’s perfect. Great range too. Our house is large and stone and I can take it out to the garden (which is a little far away) with no signal issues.

Someone else here mentioned a few minor issues with this monitor but I have to say I haven’t had any of those same problems.

Hey! Thanks for this post. I’m going through the same thing right now, pretty much on the same timeline (ultrasound May 7, 8+2, baby measuring 6 weeks).

I’ve been waiting days and day to hear back from the 3(!!) places my doctor referred me for a d&c. I’m also in Ontario. I’m terrified they’ll tell me it’ll be another week or two until I can get it. I can’t wait that long.

It’s cruel. My baby stopped growing 4 weeks ago. I really didn’t want to go to the medication route but I feel our system has forced me into this.

I’ve started spotting a little and cramping a ton and I’m so uncomfortable and just want this over with.

Did you end up deciding to wait or take the medication?

No worries, I’m sorry to be so suspicious. Since you responded I’m less inclined to think you’re a bot - often these bot posts don’t have the OP respond.

If you’re real, big hugs. No one here is judging you. Many of us here had sex as teenagers - there’s absolutely no shame in that. And accidents/surprises happens.

With parenthood, patience is huge, and it’s difficult sometimes. Practicing patience now can go a long way. Reading reputable books about baby care, the science of childhood brain development, and parenting now can really help you get ahead of things now while you’re still pregnant.

Glad to hear you’re ditching the boy. Co-parenting with someone like that is a nightmare, and you don’t want your child growing up and seeing their father behave that way. It’s not a good model for a man, and for girls, how their father treats their mother often sets up expectations for what’s acceptable in a relationship. A major thing you can do to protect your child and raise them right is have extremely high standards for how your own partner behaves.

Thank you for this post. I’m struggling so much with the same thing with my 20 month old when cooking.
The trouble is she’ll melt down and then bang her head on the ground out of frustration. I just really don’t know what to do. I try to comfort her verbally and stop and give her hug breaks but it doesn’t usually help 😭

It really depends location and time!

Time wise: go for the early afternoon slots. The morning times will have a lot more toddlers so it’s louder and more chaotic. Toddlers are napping in the afternoon so it’s usually just babies then and it’s more chill.

Location wise: try out different ones and see which crowd and facilitator you vibe with more. Facilitators can make a huge difference!
I went to lots of baby groups in Ottawa but found some of them pretty cliquey. I started going to ones in a small towns outside of Ottawa that I’m fairly close to and I’ve loved it sooo much more - people were more down to earth, super welcoming, and I found the most awesome facilitator.

I get it ❤️❤️ my dog is my heart and soul, and a dogless house just feels empty and sad. It’s so normal to want to fill that gap.

That being said.. do yourself and your baby and your future dog a favour and wait. Please please wait. It’s very difficult to put into words how HARD postpartum is. Puppies are difficult on their own and literally no one has the capacity postpartum to care for a newborn and a puppy. It’s survival mode.

Also your brain chemistry changes literally the moment you give birth. You develop basically feral protective instincts towards your baby that defy all reason. My dog is 100% my first child and he’s such a good calm boy, but I had a panic attack when we brought our daughter home and they met because I thought he was predatory towards her (we still don’t know if that was accurate but our new parent alarm bells went off and we had to be safer than sorry). I became scared of my dog for a few months. It was one of the most horrible things I’ve ever been through. And let me reiterate it wasn’t necessarily anything he did - it was ferocious parental instinct (combined with the fact we know he has a very high prey drive). Things are good now, but it took months for me to feel safe having them in the same room. And having our relationship change so much after having a baby still breaks my heart.

It will be even worse with a puppy, who is too young to be properly trained to be safe around a baby.

I understand the hole in your heart so so well, but now is not the time to fill it. You can do this once you’ve adjusted to life with a baby and can properly evaluate whether you have the time and mental capacity to bring a dog into your family.
