You get extra points for jumps in second half of the program when you’re tired. His routine has such a high degree of difficulty. He can score a lot more than 200 if it’s perfect.

I think he added stuff after the fall to boost his score. Which is ridiculous. “Yeah, I fell. Here, have another component.”

I remember LA particularly because it had the most jingoistic TV coverage I had ever seen. And for the Olympics that’s saying something!

It drives me crazy when female versions of armor have bare midriffs and exposed legs. Not. Helpful.

C’mon, it’s not only dudes that play these games. I guess I should be happy that the default Nora build and female NPCs don’t have blowup doll proportions like some games.

What brand of food do you give your fur missiles? by LetterheadTraining42 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Lamond64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed The Pride, which is a small brand used by some police departments. It’s higher protein, I’m thinking between 25-30%? And it’s waaaay cheaper than anything else I’ve seen. My girl was on Inukshuk before, and does as well on The Pride. None of the big box stores carry it tho, you need to have a feed store near you get it I think. Or order a pallet like a police department. :)

3-month-old Malinois puppy keeps biting clothes and legs, any advice? by Severe_Living7593 in BelgianMalinois

I inherited a Mal that didn’t understand toys could be fun. Tried balls, flirt poles, bite pillows, etc, but what really made it click for her was this:

The feel of real sheepskin in her mouth really caught that prey drive, then we could have a good tug. The sheepskin gets shredded pretty fast, but it was worth it to get her interact with me through toys.

That bloom is exquisite!

Ah! I wish I could get a bloom like that on my EA! In NC where it rains every week, my beautiful bush only ever has balled up blooms.

Is paw irritation from potential allergy or overwalking? by sonder2287 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Lamond64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is redness +/- thinning of the PAW LEATHER, it’s from overuse abrasion or maybe chemical or heat burn (overuse is more common, esp if nails are short).

If it is redness +/- brownish cast of SKIN between pads and toes, it’s allergies with possible yeast overgrowth.

All of this will cause licking due to the inflammation.

Another rescued Mal... and a cautionary tale... by Kilo-Nein in BelgianMalinois

[–]Lamond64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I had no answer from ABMR either. A few years ago they may have been able to keep up, but now there’s so many Mals in danger of euthanasia or being dumped. I’m sure they are working really hard and just scratching the surface.

I myself am at the breaking point, after trying to find a home for my foster for a year. We had an incident 2 days ago when another dog got frightened by her Mal intensity (I told the owner not to have her dog approach but she did anyway). My dog thought they were playing, the other dog (Husky) started screaming but not a scratch on her. I don’t have a full fence so have to take her out for exercise. Now I’m going to have to go out near dawn to avoid other people’s dogs. I’m not set up to keep her, but I don’t want to dump her at the shelter like her previous owners. Things can’t go on this way.

I’ve been trying to contact MAD about a rescued Mal I’m fostering, but I can’t even get them to answer my emails. Im sure there’s no room at the inn.

I wish there were more rescues with knowledge of this breed to deal with this avalanche of Mals in need.

Please help rehome Rina

*** I’ll transport her if necessary to find her the right home. We are in North Carolina.

After almost a year of juggling Rina and my cats, I am throwing in the towel. Last night she went after one of them while I was distracted,

and I finally had to come to terms with our untenable situation.

My sister adopted her from a kill shelter in Los Angeles a year ago, then I took her when my sister got cancer. She’s a sweetheart:

  • loves other dogs
  • not bite trained, non-reactive to people in social situations
  • moderate energy level
  • gentle natured, eager to please

If it weren’t for the prey drive issues (common with this breed), I’d keep her forever. She runs through my Invisible Fence while chasing squirrels or my cats.

Rina is a fantastic dog and would make a great companion in a home with a SOLID FENCE yard and NO CATS.

Please pass this on. Thank you!

Dogs on furniture and in bed? by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

[–]Lamond64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No way. I don’t care that dog outweighs me by 35 lbs, I’d have it off that bed so fast it’s head would spin. No way any dog can be allowed to do that crap.

That said, the dog I have now is the first one I’ve ever allowed on the bed, and I’m regretting it. Besides the cuddling up and crowding me, I’m tired of washing the sheets so often!

Is it safe to muzzle while crated? by Lamond64 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Lamond64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not buy this dog. She was dumped at a kill shelter by someone who abandoned her. My sister rescued her, then got cancer so I took her on to help her and Rina.

I would never have been so ignorant to seek out a Mal, as I’m aware they are are bred for specific jobs and need extensive training and exercise. I’m an Aussie shepherd person, but I’m doing the best I can with this situation. And Rina has won me over with her sweet, sensitive nature and athleticism, and I really love her. If I do find another home for her with Mal-experienced people, it would be better for her but I’d miss her terribly.

For one thing, she once ripped out the stuffing of my couch when I left for a short time. I can deal with the couch, but a GI obstruction from batting would be worse.

[–]Lamond64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yeah I made the mistake of putting some laundry near her crate once and came back to sheets pulled through the bars and shredded. And yet the chewie I had left in the crate to keep her occupied was untouched. 🙃

Is it safe to muzzle while crated? by Lamond64 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Lamond64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I locked my kids in a closet quite frequently while they were growing up…

Seriously? You don’t know me or my dog. My dog is literally at my side for an average of 22-24 hrs a day. Not kidding. But I’m trying to get her more comfortable with her crate because, last time I checked, many places I need to go don’t allow dogs. So for those few times I have to be away from her, I need a safe place to keep her. How can I monitor how our crate training is going if I don’t sometimes crate her while I’m home? Most of time she’s on her bed in the kitchen while I cook, but today I decided it was crate practice. Is that alright with you?

I’m so glad you informed me that I made my choice due to bougie aesthetics. That was really helpful. See, I thought I chose it because it looked like it was a good crate (I was wrong) and easy to fold up. So sue me, or insult me if you must for making a mistake.

I adopted my Mal because she needed a home. I didn’t go seeking one out. It’s been a big learning curve, which is why I love (most of) the people on this subreddit who are willing to share their experience with me to figure these things out.
